Index finger knuckle swelling

Common Questions and Answers about Index finger knuckle swelling

finger

Avatar m tn After initial swelling of my whole finger and tendon pain, I remain with a swollen knuckle and below the knuckle but the top of my finger is normal. I cannot bend it as far as my other fingers and it is painful to go past 90 degrees with it. Will it heal on its own, or is there a way to prevent permanent limitations of it?
Avatar f tn When i was 11 a girl broke my right index finger at school and no one believed me when I said it was broken. So obviously it wasn't splinted or even buddy tapped. In the eight grade my mom took me to a doctor that told her that my finger did break and that the bone healed eight degrees off. After six months of trying to buddy tape it and splint it, the bone only moved two degrees. The doctor recommended surgery to pin and straighten out the bone and my mom decided on getting me the surgery.
Avatar f tn m a 28 year old female and I have been having swelling, stiffness and pain of my right index finger knuckle for over 2 years. It started off as a little right itchy bump on my knuckle (it kind of looked like a welt) and it felt like it was on fire. I noticed it would flare up when it would rain and there was high humidity. From there it has progressed to swelling and it is usually stiff. It has been swollen for so long now that it has started to deform my joint.
Avatar m tn I was tucking in my shirt and heard a pop, and then felt sharp pain in my index finger. Looking at it I noticed the top knuckle is bent in the direction it should bend at about a 45 deg. angle, but it will not straighten. It stays bent at 45 deg. even if I try to straighten out my finger. There isn't a lot of pain. It was numb last night and is still not 100%. The only pain and swelling are actually on the middle knuckle. What should I do?
Avatar m tn I am having pain in my Right index finger (knuckle) for almost two months now. I don't have any swelling, warmth, or redness around the site. Could it be related to the distal radius fracture surgery which I had one year back on my Left hand. Thanking you in advance for your highly valued advise.
Avatar n tn My right index finger has been swollen for a month now. the knuckle is painful to the touch, but i'm able to bend it. Any ideas what it could be?? Thanks for any help!
Avatar f tn Index finger on right hand swollen and painful to bend.. Hard to tell if pain is first or second knuckle.. Swelling is mostly at base of finger.. No warmth or redness noted.. Have "skiers" thumb for about a month now.. Just woke up and boom thumb was swollen at base.. Finger was little stuff and next morning swollen and painful.. As long as it's straight there is no pain.. Getting old is for the birds!!
Avatar f tn I have a painful cyst that lies under a large vein between my knuckle and first joint of my left hand index finger. Either that or it is an aneurysm. The vein looks like a balloon that is about to pop. Is this a difficult surgery if it is an aneurysm and not a simple cyst?
Avatar f tn I am sorry, I mistakingly put index finger, when I meant to say ring finger.
1744581 tn?1311302411 I cut the knuckle of my R index finger on a deli/meat slicer 2 days ago, The ER dr said I had a layer of fat over the muscle left over the bone & that was it. I got 12 stitches. The dr didn't think I cut the tendon b/c I could move my index finger although I had a lot of pain. He diagnosed it as a AVULSION INJURY.
Avatar n tn I got in a fight last night. One hitter quitter. The knuckle of my middle finger is pretty swollen right now. It wasn't that bad last night. Two hours after the fight, I was playing pool with minimal pain. Since I have no insurance, I'm wondering how long I can wait before having the more serious consequences of a fractured hand... my friend's mom says hours... but I'd guess a couple days??
Avatar f tn (I'm 15 if it matters) I didn't hit my finger or injure it in any way, but it feels broke. I know it's not though because I can bend it. All of this is happening on my left index finger; -It's hot like when you break a bone. -I can bend it almost all the way until it starts to hurt too bad and I get a pain in the top knuckle even when I don't bend it, the pain is still there.
Avatar n tn I posted prior about pain in my knuckle starting in my left index finger knuckle. Since then, in early January of this year it transferred to the opposite knuckle. I went in to get tests done and they came back negative for RA, OA, and gout. Everything looked good on the x-rays and there was no cartilage worn down on the joints. Since I got it tested, the pain has continued to transfer to surrounding knuckles but not to the same pain level as the original left index finger knuckle.
Avatar n tn Back in March I was holding a little girl that was standing on my lap and she lost her balance and squatted down. My hand was behind her knee and my right index finger popped and then hurt really bad for awhile. I assumed it would go away and it didn't. A few days later I went to urgent care. They took x-rays and saw nothing and told me to take ibuprofen and continue to use it like normal.
Avatar m tn Ever now and then, some days more than others I get a sharp burring sensation in my left pinky, or index finger that comes and goes quickly but is painful enough to make me stop what I am doing and if I am holding something I would either let go or drop it. I'm thinking arthritis but am not sure.
2191761 tn?1338284458 The swelling and bruising went down fairly quickly however now I have noticed a small lump to the side of the knuckle in between my index finger and middle finger, it doesn't hurt when I move my hand but hurts when I press on the lump.
Avatar n tn This may simply be a jammed finger or it could be an injury to the collateral ligaments or volar plate. The numbness may be bruising of the small sensory nerve to the finger tip, the digital nerve. If there is no gross deformity or instability, "buddy taping" (taping to the adjacent finger, with one thin strip of tape above the knuckle and one below) will be useful for support and to encourage motion. In the the case of even a jammed finger, swelling may persist for some time.
Avatar f tn 2 days ago I suddenly devoped pain in my left index finger at the knuckle. I can touch it and its ok, but if I move it at all in any direction, it hurts pretty bad. Late yesterday it started hurting some in the knuckle where my finger joins my hand, top and bottom. Its sore feeling in that area when I touch it. A vein on the right side of the finger is bulging out some and it seems to be slightly swollen. I can bend it, it just hurts.
Avatar f tn The soreness is over to the side in the soft part of the index finger between the first knuckle and the nail. It hurts if I type or if I press on it in anyway. It also throbs a little and feels hot. There is no detectable swelling or any sort of cyst of any type but the pain has become more bothersome over the last 24 hours. What could be causing this? Should I be worried? I wouldn't really be bothered except I am a guitarist and I don't want it to affect my playing.
Avatar m tn s no swelling. My wrist pops easily. The central knuckles of my index finger, middle finger and ring finger all hurt. The index finger also hurt a few days at the base, but stopped. I have a doctor's appointment on the 7th. Sorry for the repeated posts; just a little worried and the appointment seems so far away. If you were me, what you lean closer to? Arthritis or tendonitis?
Avatar m tn As it got worse we noticed the pad on her hand next to the index finger was swelling with a lot of pain to the touch. We talked to another ortho doc and he said it was carpel tunnel, or trigger finger and wants to inject steroids. He did xrays and the bumps did not show so he ignored them and no other testing was done. Do you agree with this or is there any other testing you'd recommend. I'm worried that this Tx. would agrivate an infection.
Avatar f tn The MRI though showed a lot of swelling in my left knuckle and less swelling in my ring one, but like I said found no specific damage to anything around the joint. The only drug has really helped is steroids. I took some orally and it knocked out the swelling til I stopped taking them and then it came back. And got a steroid injection in my index finger which helped so much (I couldn’t move my Index all the way down and now I can pretty much can) but it’s still swelling.
Avatar n tn While doing this, I had my hand in-between by body and the bed. After doing this prior for the previous years and never having any issue, my left index finger knuckle started hurting a lot after I was done. For many days I didn't care but now at this time, it hurts some days and other days it feels off. I am going to the doctor in a month for my annual checkup and am going to mention it but I just wanted to ask here to see if anyone might have any idea what the issue could be.
Avatar n tn about 6 months ago i started to experience pain in my right hand around the middle knuckle- but more the area between the pointer and middle finger from the base of the finger to the middle of the top of my hand. its often swollen and i noticed a bruise on the top of my hand in that area today. i had an xray when the pain started and they saw nothing.
Avatar m tn it hurt for a few days but the pain gradually went away. The swelling however remained. it is on the side of the middle knuckle, not centered around the pucture, but to the side. at the widest point my index finger is a good 1/4 inch wider than the other finger. Now there is a red tint to the swelling but no discharge at the punctures. Im getting worried as it seems like it must be getting infected, and its obviously far from the surface. What can a doctor do? oral antibiotics? amputate?
Avatar n tn On my left hand, my index finger is longer than my middle finger, my ring finger is shorter than my middle finger. On my left had, my middle finger is shorter than both other fingers (ring & middle). It's nver caused any problems but I've always wondered why my Mom & I had it.
