20445453 tn?1498061430 My mother (58 y/o, had total abdominal hysterectomy 2016, hospital stay was 21 days with severe ileus) underwent incisional hernia repair surgery for a large hernia in the incisional area, which was caused by her having a severe case of ileus last year. She was sent home the day after, contrary to what was programmed and paid for. She spent most of the day okay, BUT then around 9 PM she got really sick, all nauseous and bloated.
Avatar m tn An incisional hernia can occur years after a surgery, including a laparoscopic procedure. I have a hernia which has developed at the site where I had a procedure some time ago. The weakness in the abdominal wall is created by the incision, even a perfectly healed one. Then the wall is strained through excercise, heavy lifting and even weight gain causing the weaker portion of the abdominal wall to tear (herniate).
Avatar n tn I had an incisional hernia repaired 7 days ago - how soon after can I have alcohol? (wine) I have searched the internet high and low and can't find anything. A little help?
Avatar m tn A male lower abdominal hernia? I am no doctor, paramedic and I am no longer a combat lifesaver. I work around a lot of steel. At times I have to hand pull 400 foot lengths of cable threw that steel. The big cables weigh in at least 5 pounds per foot. So a lot of people around me tend to get a hernia in the same place amoungst all the other straining injuries. I have also got a straining injury myself, from not wearing the proper underwear of all things.
Avatar n tn i got a seroma following an incisional hernia repair - it did go eventually on its own without being drained it was quite big and a few months!! hopefully yours wont take as long - good luck with your recovery.
Avatar f tn from April to August 2010, and left it open wound for a space of three weeks.. They closed the incision again, and after that I had my first hernia surgery on September 2010. After that one, I had every year after, a hernia repair surgery and waiting at this moment for the decision of a new one. I'm really disappointed that I wasn't told about all the complications that this surgery can or might have.
478868 tn?1209031705 I thought it was all due to the surgery. Guess not, she thinks I have an incisional hernia. I see my surgeon Thursday for further evaluation. Has anyone ever had this? I thought after the hysterectomy, removal of the malignant tumor, I was well on the road to recovery. What am I in for now?
1577722 tn?1310624684 t really feel it but that was typical of a c-section hernia. I am due to have surgery in March. After being told about my hernia I have been afraid to workout and gained 60 lbs. I would like to get fit again and do crunches and pretty much everything else. I'm scared that I will make the hernia worse. It doesn't stick out and only hurts when I lay a certain way.
Avatar f tn I have an incisional hernia. Had a gall bladder surgery and this being my 3rd kids in 3 1/2 years it caused the scar tissue to rip open. I have to have surgery after the baby is born. I do believe m most umbilical hernias self correct though. Good luck.
Avatar f tn 12 years ago I had Exploratory surgery on my abdomen. 2 children CSections ages now 8 and 5. No future children. I had a lower area ventral hernia repaired last July have still been in pain everyday since surgery. Last 4-6 months that pain has increased and moved to the upper region of the incision. New ultrasound more incisional hernias found. My question is what are my options?
Avatar f tn Has anyone gone through an incisional hernia from a laparotomy? If a small one forms, does it progress fairly rapidly to a full-blown one with a noticeable bulge produced? Or can small, visibly undetectable ones maybe go away on their own? Before my surgery to remove my two ovarian cysts, my doc said that with my "bikini cut" (horizontal) incision, it reduces the chances of an incisional hernia greatly, compared to an up-and-down vertical incision.
Avatar f tn t have an incisional hernia. Another possibility is a simple collection of a small amount of blood in the area. That happened to me after gb surgery (in the naval incision), and thankfully my doctor noticed it and warned me it might open up. It did. I was in the shower and all at once blood seemed to be everywhere! Had the doc not told me what to expect, I would have freaked. It only took a few minutes to finish draining and all was well after that.
Avatar f tn Hi I have a large lump in my lower abdomen which my gp is almost certain is an incisional hernia, as it’s right by the scar from my hysterectomy in 2014. I have had blood tests to check for cancer. She has referred me to hospital hernia department as urgent and I got sent a letter asking me to book an appointment online. There were 14 hospitals available and not one had an appointment, all I could do was request they contact me. It’s saying if I haven’t heard by 23rd June I can call them.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am a 42 year old female who had an extended tummy tuck, with muscle repair and incisional hernia repair with mesh four weeks ago today. The original incision that had the hernia was from my open gastric bypass which I had done almost four years ago. I have had a weight loss of almost 100 lbs and have had no complications at all besides the need for an iron transfusion a couple of times.
Avatar m tn Hernias in the upper abdomen, below the rib cage, are extremely uncommon unless you have a prior incision in that area which can cause an incisional hernia. A clinical examination is necessary for correct diagnosis and treatment. I hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
905378 tn?1244854365 My mom got an insicional hernia after debulking surgery and her chemo tratments have not improved the ascites. It is getting worse and her abdominal hernia is worse. Has anyone experienced this? What should we do?
Avatar n tn my hernia surgery was open type with no mesh used.
701463 tn?1228347839 depends on the surgery you had - i had an open incisional repair over 4 months ago and getting pain and discomfort - it has subsided a lot and is only intermitant now - there is still stuff i cant do but then i could not do much before surgery due to pain ... i am certainly recovering- but it is a slow process. pain is also a sign that you are doing too much, if you listen to your body and look at what you are trying to do - are you running before you can walk.
Avatar f tn Forget about acupuncture for the moment. This sounds like an incisional hernia in-spite of the negative scans etc. When you press gently on it can you reduce it in size? If not then clearly there is something wrong. Under general anesthetic I think you need incision revision and have the area formally explored by a good general surgeon. It may well be that inside you have adhesion from the incision to some abdominal content and the only way to to find this out is through formal open surgery.
Avatar n tn What if you have had hernia surgery already? Can you do situps then? I had hernia surgery Jan 23 2009 and now I have mesh around my whole abdomen.
Avatar f tn Two are incisional hernias (I had an open surgery last year to remove about a foot of necrotic colon), one is apparently a spot where muscle never properly closed up. I have two meshes - one over the open muscle area and a larger mesh basically across my whole abdomen. I have been advised of no exercise at all for 3 months. I would like to get back to doing yoga eventually. From what I've read, I can do that if I'm careful on which asanas I do.
471779 tn?1211803509 What is the deal? One of my friends scared me by saying that I might have an incisional hernia. I go back to the doctor on Friday. Any one able to give insight.
Avatar f tn Thanks girls for your concern and comments. Just back from the oncologist and it is an incisional hernia. No surgery scheduled, we'll just watch it since it is not causing any pain. Sbould it get larger or cause discomfort then surgery. No worries according to onc; "I bet your not the only kid on the block with one"....that was his comment. The best news is my test results were all normal and my CA125 was 6.8 (the lowest it has ever been).
Avatar n tn It is not all the time but he is very miserable, needless to say he is on a cocktail of drugs. Do you think they contribute or not. He now has an incisional hernia, and has to have that repaired, and it is all getting to him. What can i do to help?
1262699 tn?1277854959 Thank you for the response. I don't have infections because I had blood work and urine tests done. I will ask my doctor about the incisional hernia. From the outside it looks good, it's the inside that bothers me. The GYN thinks that at this point I should move around, walk a bit, like 10-15minutes 2-3 times a day. I have been doing that now for about 4 days. Should I keep moving even though the incisions are still sore inside?
