Imitrex withdrawal symptoms

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex withdrawal symptoms

imitrex

Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar f tn Please let me know if you have had any of these symptoms. I am so worried about the imitrex. I took so much of it and I feel like my symptoms are closely related to some type of "withdrawl" from it. If anyone has ever taking imitrex, had any of these symptoms, has any suggestions on what type of doctor to see or what kind of test to get done please let me know. I am willing to try anything at this point.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
1056589 tn?1273747102 • Some people may have a reaction called serotonin syndrome when they take certain kinds of medicines for depression called SSRIs or SNRIs while they are taking IMITREX Tablets. Symptoms may include confusion, hallucinations, fast heartbeat, feeling faint, fever, sweating, muscle spasm, difficulty walking, and/or diarrhea. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any of these symptoms after taking IMITREX Tablets.
Avatar n tn I have tried several different preventative medications including Inderal LA, which I no longer take. I now take Imitrex 100mg PRN- but have noticed a few changes in my symptoms. I have never experienced an aura-I usually get the pain on one side(usually my left) that generates to behind my left eye. The headaches pretty much incapacitate me- I am nauseated-feel dizzy-overall malaise. Imitrex and 3 excedrin usually helped.
Avatar f tn Ziac is for high blood pressure and I doubt you have this at 20! Do you know why it was given to you? Imitrex is for migraines, do you get migraine headaches? Lexapro is used to treat anxiety and obcessive compulsive disorders (OCD). This is where one keeps doing something repeatedly, like handwashing, cleaning, checking locks, etc. People with OCD often have ADHD as well. Lexapro can calm you and help you concentrate, but it doesn't sound like it's working for you.
Avatar m tn Contingent on supply, but the gut punch of it all was that my wife has a neck problem and is on them for a legitimate reason, so rather face the impending doom of withdrawal. I stole from her, there is no better word for it than that. I hate myself for what I've done, and I'm in the throws of a build up to the peak of withdrawal wondering how I will survive this. I've had four days off for the thanksgiving holiday so I've been using this time to get over the hump.

Avatar f tn I also posted in the addiction forum. Can anyone here help me know what to expect in terms of withdrawal symptoms, as I weaned off of dilaudid a week ago (had only been on a small amount, max. 2mg. 3x a day, but was at .5mg 3x a day for a couple of weeks, then weaned off of that) and I have just gone from a 75mcg. fentanyl patch to a 50. This is following an accident from 10 weeks ago.
507619 tn?1211845850 I use the Imitrex nasal spray and it gets rid of my headaches with no euphoria or narcotic "haze".
Avatar f tn After taking 100mg of Imitrex for my migraines, within 3 hours after I usually feel all of a sudden kind of "out of it". I am just really "slow" feeling and neutral in personality unlike usual. Is this typical? Why does it do this?
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar m tn Yes, the prescription medication is called a triptan... or triptans are a class of medication and examples of triptans are sumatriptan (brand name imitrex), zomig, maxalt, axert... well those are just to name a few. And yes, they are migraine medication and you take them at the first signs of the migraine, the SS, and it will stop the SS as long as you take it at the very first signs that it is starting. You can get it prescribed by a neurologist or your family doctor.
561539 tn?1216438257 I took imitrex for the second time ever over the weekend. I stopped over 24 hours ago and still might right side of nose and face from cheek up is completely numb. the medicine should be out of my system by now. i have a regular md appt tomorrow because i'm scared. is it medicine damage (which should be out of my system) or is it migraine damage?
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
1103688 tn?1257894552 t take Imitrex because it causes me to have severe heart palpitations (bad enough that I have to be hospitalized - I've only been given it once, and that was all it took). The thing that works best for me as a preventative is Excedrin - just plain old, over-the-counter Excedrin, but the problem with this is that I have multiple digestive problems, among which is the tendency to develop gastric ulcers, and my gastroenterologist would really like it if I would stop taking Excedrin.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
Avatar n tn After last weeks migraine and realizing the pressure and pain was now back, I went to see my doctor and he prescribed Imitrex to take at the onset of migraine symptoms. My hope is that this will prevent the lingering effects from setting in, and will hopefully allow me to avoid the months of pain following these migraines.
Avatar m tn I take Imitrex when I get them, and it usually works great, but today I have taken the maximum dose on my Rx for a 24 hr. period (200 mg) and it's still not gone. I am wondering if I went to the ER, is there something else they could do -- could they give me more Imitrex, or another triptan or something else to try to stop it? I don't want opiates. Any thoughts appreciated.
Avatar n tn After a recent appointment, my neurologist wants to begin treating me for migraine. Because of lightheartedness associated with my symptoms, though, she ordered a tilt table test. The hospital could not schedule my test until about two from today. So I'm wondering - can I start taking these new medications or can they potentially "mask" whatever might be found on the tilt table test?
Avatar f tn examples are maxalt-MLT, zomig-ZMT, zomig nasal spray, imitrex or imitrex nasal spray. But, only your doctor can prescribe these or say if they are actually appropriate for you and your headache (not everyone can take them).
203003 tn?1210855907 Now I got a Shot of Demerol actually 200mg of it, bc my head was so bad, im not having withdrawal symptoms and I dont feel like I want it. Im just wondering if it will set me back in my detox?? I dont think it will bc its a different chemical then what I was addicted too which was hydrocodone, vicodin 10/325. Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
Avatar f tn Without the ability to examine you and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of your symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information. Perimenopausal migraine is not uncommon in women who have had during their lifetime migraines around the time of their period. These should improve once you pass through menopause.
