768044 tn?1294223436 In the comments below, let us know if your triptan is a tablet, an orally disintegrating tablet, a nasal spray or an injection, especially if the triptan is Imitrex, Zomig or Maxalt (as these medications come in multiple delivery methods). Feel free to discuss how satisfied you are with your current triptan medication and if you have any specific complaints, compliments or comments about the treatment.
Avatar m tn the only two nasal sprays I know of are imitrex and zomig (what I take) and the only quick dissolve tablets I know of are imitrex, zomig and maxalt.
1125820 tn?1265284446 The bioavailability of Imitrex tablets is pretty pathetic, honestly, so Imitrex Injection is VERY different then Imitrex tablets or Imitrex Nasal Spray. Also, which Maxalt did you try? Did you try the regular Maxalt tablets or the Maxalt-MLTs? The Maxalt-MLTs are the orally disintegrating tablets. The Maxalt-MLTs work better than the regular Maxalt tablets. If you haven't tried Maxalt-MLTs yet, I would suggest giving those a try too. Which Zomig did you try?
Avatar n tn A Triptan drug (Imitrex, Zomig) is about the only thing that works and yes, they are very expensive. I just paid $225.00 for 9 pills yesterday. I get the 100mg. so that I can cut them in half and make eighteen 15 mg. pills. If I am wise and take one as soon as I feel one coming on, I can stop it with one half of the pill. Sometimes it doesn't work and I have to take the other half. That's just one way of stretching them.
Avatar f tn After taking 100mg of Imitrex for my migraines, within 3 hours after I usually feel all of a sudden kind of "out of it". I am just really "slow" feeling and neutral in personality unlike usual. Is this typical? Why does it do this?
Avatar f tn Could be migraines. Does it throb right behind your left eye??? I've had migraines for years (comes with having 4 kids I think-ha); the only meds that help relieve most of the pain are Zomig (really expensive, but no generic version yet) and Meloxicam (generic for Mobic) - both pills taken together usually decrease pain within an hour or two. Hope this helps. My doc also suggested Imitrex when I can't afford the Zomig anymore.
Avatar f tn examples are maxalt-MLT, zomig-ZMT, zomig nasal spray, imitrex or imitrex nasal spray. But, only your doctor can prescribe these or say if they are actually appropriate for you and your headache (not everyone can take them).
Avatar f tn I take Imitrex, there is also Zomig. The codeine will DEFINITELY cause rebound headaches. I have had both, and they are both just as painful!! But once I was off the pain meds, I had no more headaches. It wasn't until years later I started getting migraines with aura and vomiting. I got very addicted to my pain meds. Vicodin, Norco, etc. I didn't know how to stop so I went to a clinic and they put me on methadone. Now I am trying to get off that 5 years later.
1102283 tn?1257817472 Hi Juniper! First-line acute migraine medications are triptans. There are currently 7 triptans on the market, plus one triptan that is also mixed with an NSAID called Naproxen. I believe that fast acting triptans are the best in most situations because they work the fastest. Fast acting triptans come in orally disintegrating tablets or nasal sprays. I personally use Zomig Nasal Spray and find it works extremely well. I also have found great success with Maxalt-MLTs.
Avatar m tn Talk to your doctor about antimigraine medications such as Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, etc., that are meant to acute migraine attacks. Until you see your doctor, you have over the counter options such as aspirin, Tylenol, ibuprofen, or Excedrin.
Avatar f tn s those headaches where the Zomig does nothing. For those headaches, I use Imitrex Injection. It works almost immediately, but the side-effects will knock me out for at least half an hour after using it. Like most people who experience side-effects with Imitrex, I get a rash, a racing heart beat and a feeling of heaviness in my chest (like asthma).
570440 tn?1216940745 They are so intense I hate to even lift my head up.I have tried zomig and imitrex both to no avail. They come on during the day as well. The last one made my left arm very sore and the veins running up the back of both sides of my neck hurt as bad as my head did.Is there anything I should be doing to help these?
Avatar f tn then my Dr put me on fioricet and I think it works better than all the other ones I have tryed, plus unlike IMITREX ,ZOMIG and MAXXOLT you can take it up to 6 times per day! Also my Aunt has terrible migraines all the time she was taking all the imitrex she could get was put on a muscle relaxer called soma , and her headaches are much easier to deal with!! GOOD LUCK! HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER SOON!
Avatar m tn The most effective triptans are the quick-absorbing triptans, such as Zomig Nasal Spray, Maxalt-MLTs, or Imitrex Injection. Imitrex Injection is rarely used since it is an injection, but Zomig Nasap Spray or Maxalt-MLTs are simple to take and usually work for most people. Sometimes people use a medication called Naproxen in combination with their triptans, and that works very well.
Avatar f tn I always have a visual aura and then I lose vision in my left eye. I have tried imitrex, zomig and I am currently on topomax. June 2006 I had sudden left sided weakness. my arm and leg. I felt rather confused a little disoriented, but that didn't last long. the weakness has persisted. I have had about six MRI done. Mostly normal I have a small Arnold-Chiari variant. I work full time at the local hospital. I work closely with many doctors, they all can't give ma any definite answers.
Avatar n tn t get imitrex tablets, get the imitrex or generic nasal spray or imitrex or generic injection OR treximex tablets but NOT imitrex tablets. - Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. But, the nasal spray DOES work incredibly well and this is what is usually prescribed anyway. - Almotriptan. brand name Axert. a very powerful triptan tablet.
1079216 tn?1258200805 My first line of treatment for an acute attack is always Zomig Nasal Spray and I sometimes use Naproxen at the same time as the Zomig Nasal Spray. If the Zomig+Naproxen fails, then I will use an antiemetic called Metoclopramide. If that all fails, I will use a small dose of Hydromorphone. If that fails, I will then turn to my Imitrex Injection.
1088430 tn?1259159773 But, he was so nice to volunteer a whole box of samples of not only relpax, but max(something) dissolves in your mouth. Also, he gave me a new RX for Imitrex since they have a generic and it'll only cost me $5 now to refill instead of a $50 co-pay! He's the NICEST doctor I've ever seen! Thanks again for the info! The botox thing interests me (: Not sure how it works in Canada. But, have you heard of cranial sacral massage? I was researching alt. migraine stuff and found the info.
655875 tn?1295695107 The drug of choice however are triptans such as Sumatriptan (Imitrex), rizatriptan (Maxalt), naratriptan (Amerge), zolmitriptan (Zomig), almotriptan (Axert), frovatriptan (Frova) and eletriptan (Relpax). Hormone therapy may help some women whose migraines seem to be linked to their menstrual cycle. Other alternatives include stress management strategies, such as exercise, relaxation, and biofeedback may also reduce the occurrence and severity of migraine attacks.
Avatar f tn It also would be a good idea to have an abortive on hand like one of the triptans. These include Imitrex, Zomig, etc. If you take one of these when you feel a migraine coming on, you can usually head it off at the pass. They also treat the symptoms that accompany migraine like light and sound sensitivity, nausea, etc. Some foods can trigger migraines as well. Too much caffeine can be a big one for some people.
