Imitrex vs midrin

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex vs midrin

imitrex

Avatar f tn After taking 100mg of Imitrex for my migraines, within 3 hours after I usually feel all of a sudden kind of "out of it". I am just really "slow" feeling and neutral in personality unlike usual. Is this typical? Why does it do this?
Avatar f tn I was on midrin for a long while but I got used to it and started to max out and had the aide of other pills. I was put on Maxalt and it stopped working in a couple of months and I often time had to mix it with other pills. Between appt I took excedrin extra strength, I was taking 3 or 4 pills for two hours. The new pills they had put me on was a "pre migraine pill" imitrex and a once you get a migraine pill" Fioricet. But the Fioricet is beggining to stop working.
Avatar n tn I got a migraine last evening & although the Midrin I take for it is very helpful, I would be lying if I said I didn't want to take some hydrocodone. I'm very glad I don't have any here at home. I was very restless last night & didn't sleep well despite a hot bath, soothing music, etc. . . My migraine continued until today but thankfully was gone by mid-day and I made myself get up & go out. I don't mean to sound so down. . . it's been a good day.
616582 tn?1225068601 I get migraines and the only thing that knocks them out is ergotamine or DHE (basically the same thing). I'm on some antidepressants such as Luvox that can conflict with it and would like to find an alternative. It's a dangerous combination. I've tried all the triptans such as imitrex, maxalt, etc, and that family of drugs does not help at all. The latest thing I've tried is Midrin but that did not help at all either Is there anything new or a different family of drugs to try?
18524847 tn?1465595901 Ohh that's exciting. Imitrex gave me some really strange side effects, and other triptans didn't work. I've been using midrin, an old medication, and it doesn't always work. I'd love a new option to try. It sounds like it might have a ways to go, but anything new is promising.
513175 tn?1222957502 I was/am at the point with this medication where a 40 pill supply, which used to last me longer than a month, is now lasting me about 2-3 weeks, tops. My doctor gave me a temporary prescription of Midrin. only 18 pills. they were gone in 4 days. I was not abusing either of the medications. taking them like i am supposed to. with the analor my directions say, "take 1-2 tablets every four to six hours as needed for pain".
Avatar f tn i mentioned midrin might help...but obviously this is an addiction forum and again, midrin does have a potential for abuse. it contains dichloralphenazone which is 2 parts chloral hydrate...around 65mgs per capsule. in my experience, it's far less habbit forming than excedrin....excedrin has a nice shot of caffeine in each dose (about 4 sodas worth)...so all the way around it's taking a chance.
Avatar n tn I've had what the doctors call cluster migraines for about 15 years. I've been many times to the doctor, although when I was younger they said there was no pills for this type of thing. They will come often, mostly a constant pressure that will build up now and again for weeks or months at a time, with short reprieves for a month or two.
1103688 tn?1257894552 I'll apologize right away for the length of this post!! I've had migraines for as long as I can remember, and have tried different types of treatments. I take 50 mg of Topomax daily as a prophylactic preventative, and it's greatly reduced the number of severe headaches I get, but I still have "normal" headaches almost daily, and if I don't take care of them they will usually turn into migraines.
Avatar f tn I talked with my doc, since my ins. will only cover 4 imitrex pills a month (otherwise out of pocket cost is $300/pill) for my migraines, and she put me on midrin... now, I know NOTHING about this drug. This is the same doctor who knows ALL, so she knows.... but still, I'm afraid to take it... do you know anything about it?
Avatar f tn I have been having headaches daily for about 7 months now, they are always on the back right side of my head in the Occipital region. I have been to the chiropractor, a physical therapist for neck issues, I have taken 2 different muscle relaxants, I have had a CT and MRI of my head and an MRI of my neck an EEG and been started on Lyrica. I also have taken upon myself to monitor my blood glucose but I have not found any anomalies in the 2 weeks I have been testing.
Avatar n tn Why is isometheptene/apap/dichlphen(MIDRIN 325 MG-65 MG-100 MG CAP) not available anymore?
Avatar n tn talk to your doctor about an alternative migraine pain meds. non opiate.. imitrex ( I personally isn't like the side effects) or midrin. there are alot out there it doesn't always have to be more vicodin or opiate pain killers. there is alot more research done on migraines now alot more meds are out there for us. check into that.
Avatar n tn I had to take a least two for it to work and even that was not a guarantee. Next my doctor switched me to Midrin, which sometimes relieved the pain, but mostly made me sleepy. Now I have Imitrex 25 mg which seems to make no difference at all. I have even taken 2 or 3 of them with no effect, which gets really expensive at $17 a pill. Some of the migraines are lasting 2 days and I have trouble sleeping when I have them. I wake every 30 minutes or so because the pain is so bad.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar n tn These include Imitrex, Maxalt, Ergotamine tartrate (Cafergot), and Midrin. There are also medications for nausea that can be taken if this accompanies your migraine (e.g., phenergan, compazine). With so many treatment options available (and you may have to try a few before you find what works best for you), hopefully you can find some relief and not have to suffer through these migraines on your own anymore.
176495 tn?1301280412 after falling down the stairs again last night out went the Fiorocet and the soma..call the doctor this AM...she put me on midrin (actually she's a PA for my doctor who was booked on saturday but she's just as good as him and I like her very much..just no physicals...please.) Thank you all for the information. Oh, and the headache did not go away..it's there this morning. not real bad but I know it's there.
Avatar f tn They changed me to Imitrex instead of the Maltax and added Amitriptyline at night. Still...no relief. So far I have had an MRI and an MRA but nothing showed up that would explain the headaches. About three days ago I started getting really bad neck pains that gradually would get worse throughout the day (just like my headaches / migraines). Last night it was the right side, from my temple to my jaw and down to the base of my skull and tonight it's the left side.
Avatar n tn t take away the migraine but if I took one early enough, it might make it possible for me to go a bit longer before taking an Imitrex, thereby making the expensive Imitrex last longer. But, like you, I started taking them too often. Luckily, I have a doctor who does not like to prescribe pain pills so he shut me down. Then my new doctor refuses to prescribe them. So I haven't taken them for years. I am so sorry that you have this problem. Migraines are not something I would wish on anyone.
Avatar m tn I also was taking Maxalt and/or Imitrex at the time. Hydromorphone sends me into anaphalaxis shock within 5 minutes even at the smallest of dosages.... i'm really concerned as to why this has showed up on my urine test...and how?!?!?!?
Avatar n tn If not, that would be a wise move. Depakote is an epileptic medication and Midrin is for migraines. I use Midrin but not depakote. I have bipolar disorder and depakote is used for that, but causes weight gain. I use Lithium with my anti-depressent and it works well. Using Midrin or Maxalt when I get a headache works great for me along with magnesium supplimentation which I use daily. Due to the reading I do on medications, Lamictal and Topamax are also really good epileptic meds.
Avatar n tn I also developed Migraines about 10 years ago and the solution was to try a parade of instant remedies (Imitrex, Relpax, etd.) of which NONE worked. 2 years ago I caught Viral Meningitis and had ridiculous headaches, so was put first on Elavil (didn't help) and then on Topamax (somewhat helped). Shortly thereafter, my GP put me on year-round birth control thinking perhaps my hormones were causing my headaches. That seemed to help a little bit. Fast forward to October 2008.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
