Have you tried Imitrex tabs or the Imitrex shot. When I was taking a course of chemo I had the worst migraines ever and the Imitrex really helped me. It gave me slight light headedness but well worth the side effects. It is by prescription. If you haven't tried it.....give it is shot. It might help.

I save a whole tablet or sometimes 2 tabs for the whopper migraines. Imitrex is in a class of medication known as sumatriptans and is not a narcotic. You definitely need insurance for it since it's expensive but the copays aren't bad at all. Neurologists are specialist when it comes to headaches so you can tell your GP if that's who you still see that you want a referral to a neuro doc for your headaches. No sense feeling bad when there are lenty of medicatioons out there to try.

I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.

I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). I am so sorry for what you have been going through. I started having migraines when I was 23. They couldn't diagnose me for 8 years because I had no migraine and had vomiting all night (only at night) and abdominal pain. The neurologist did an electroencephalogram and found it was a migraine. I was put on doxepin for a year and that helped but then it didn't work so they finally put me on Klonopin and it went away but then in my 30's it changed to severe migraine and auras.

Currently he is on Depakote, and Toprol 2x daily..He has Zofran tabs and Imitrex pens for when he is having the migraine...Sometimes the home medications work, but we usually end up in the er where they give him a big dose of Thorazine and some Benadryl to knock him out. I pick him up 6-8 hours later, I care for him at home till it passes, and we wait for the next one...We have eliminated several foods--coffee, chocolate, late night snacking..that were causing it...

what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?

Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.

Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.

does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.

so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...

I have massive migraines and use the imitrex autoninjector. It is amazing. Also the maxalt sublingual tabs work well. You may feel a little light headed or your heart might be a little racy but that's normal. I have used both of these meds wwhile on suboxone and lane pils. I have taken propanolbefore but it did nothing. Also you should be getting Botox. It was the only that big that stopped my daily headaches. If your dr won't die it find one that will.

I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.

Good Morning guys! I woke up with another migraine this morning. This is the 3rd one this month. I usually have about 2 in a year, but never this close together and this often. I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?

I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).

Under the treatments for migraines why isn't Imitrex or Fioranal listed?

I nee help. My mom is 45 and she has terrible headaches everyday. She takes Imitrex. She takes it everyday. She had bad headaches since 10 years ago, but now it's everyday that she has one. It's been like that for a month? What is wrong with her? I hope it's not some kind of tumor. Would migraine pill work for headache caused by tumor?

The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain. GSK has spent several years and millions of dollars researching and "pre-marketing" Treximet in anticipation of FDA approval and product launch. So what's the deal? I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. I use the Imitrex nasal spray and it gets rid of my headaches with no euphoria or narcotic "haze".

I just read where you posted that you were taking like 6 tabs a day...I take it is without codeine..Which means it is really the barb, u have to worry about..With taking it that many yrs, barbs, can cause death with c/t...I think you need a doctor on this one...only my opinon,...but we are here to help you, i think there are some here with the same thing.. I also wanted to tell you that i have also taking this, as i suffer from migranes..
