If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Chest/jaw/neck tightness can commonly occur shortly after using sumatriptan.
Avatar f tn I'm back with another question :-). DS is 11.5 yo, recently diagnosed. He was put on topamax and imitrex for migraines which are supposedly unrelated and are what sent us to the neurologist in the first place. Migraines continue, some tingling in hands and feet, which is likely the topamax. However, today he had a migraine (been on topamax just over three weeks). Once it wore off I took him to school.
Avatar f tn I posted a question asking if zomig knocked other people out.... or if anyone found any sort of knock-out side-effects with triptans... I totally feel out of it after I take my triptans... it takes the pain away... but I am out of it... tired... fatigued... and even confused sometimes for hours after the migraine... sometimes for the rest of the day!!!

635402 tn?1270162477 Do not take more than 15 milligrams (mg) per day because higher doses increase the chance of stomach side effects. It may take up to two weeks before the full benefits of this drug take effect. Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time each day. Inform your doctor if your condition worsens. It was approved on 4-14-2000 by the FDA to initially treat osteoarthritis. The drug interferes with the anti inflammatory process.
Avatar m tn However, these do not eliminate headaches completely, and some can even cause serious side effects. It is best that you see your doctor for proper management. Your medical history and direct clinical examination are important in evaluating the medicine suited for you. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn org/forum_disclaimers/show/296 Or you could ask your own pharmacist where you will fill the prescription, they will be happy to let you know all about imitrex, how to take it, and what the possible side effects are and what medical conditions and medications you should not mix it with.
1125820 tn?1265284446 Hi MsConfusedone, You mention that you have been on almost everything, can you be more specific? It would help knowing exactly what you have tried so that I could suggest medications that you have not tried. Also, how many migraines do you get per month? Yes, most migraine medications do work well for most people. But, not everyone has the same success with all medications. For acute treatment of migraine headaches, first line treatment is triptans.
Avatar f tn They are typical migraines - severe, pounding headache on one side (usually the left for me), light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, nausea/vomiting. I would typically just try and "ride it out" - taking my normal meds, going in a dark, quiet room and trying to stay as still as possible until the headache, etc., would pass. However, since I had so many the week before last, I decided it was time to ask my doctor about them when I saw him last week.
1103688 tn?1257894552 Can increase up to 600mg daily if no improvement at 400mg and no side-effects seen at 600mg. Side-effects at higher doses may include stomach cramps and diarrhea. Do not use Magnesium if Diabetic unless prescribed and a Diabetic Specialist has also approved this treatment. Do not take Magnesium if you have a history of Kidney Stones unless prescribed and a Urologist has approved this treatment.
Avatar m tn They just had me on so many strong meds with side effects. I had to try something on my own. You can get it on puritans pride website. http://m.puritan.com/puritans-pride-brand-0102/l-tyrosine-500-mg-000181. I really hope it helps you like it helped me. I'm currently trying to get pregnant and there are no studies on effects to the baby. Will keep you posted.
Avatar m tn His Doctor told him to go to our GP for pills to treat his side effects. We finally went to see a liver specialist and found out he was allergic to the meds and should abort them immediately. There was a supposed 98% cure rate for this type of Hep C but it did nothing but tear down his body. On major side effect is Cluster Headaches. They are migraines that last for days and weeks and are very frequent. The only small relief is acupuncture. Has anyone else experienced this?
Avatar f tn The PA told me to take it with food because it might make me sick but did not tell me about any other side effects. I want to know why the medical community is not made to go over all possible side effects with the patients before they are given the medication? If he had told me of the HORRIBLE effects I would never have taken it.
Avatar f tn I have taken Topamax for a long time with great success as long as the dose is carefully monitored (I monitor the dose and keep close track of side effects). I was signifcantly overmedicated (400mg daily) and suffered memory loss and other cognitive impairments (couldn't spell, processed info really slowly, word loss, etc) for about 2 years. My doc didn't take my complaints seriously. It got to the point that it was dangerous for me to drive.
Avatar f tn (Always a good idea with any drug. Doctors often neglect to tell you about side effects, etc.) Maybe talk to your doctor about an alternate treatment option. There are a TON out there. Good luck to you. Hope you get some relief soon.
Avatar f tn The frequency of side effects, such as headache, decreased in those who took birth control pills containing lower doses of estrogen and did not occur in those who took birth control pills containing progesterone. Treatments: The medications of choice to stop a menstrual migraine are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs).
Avatar f tn Hello, I've had migraines (no aura, just spaciness and pain) for several years now and do well on imitrex. For the past few weeks I've experienced numbness on tongue and lips extending to the whole side of my face. This facial numbness has been going on for about a week. In the past couple of days my left eyelid is twitching and I sometimes have a blurry spot in my left eye. I'm not in any pain but I am uncomfortable and kind of anxious.
Avatar n tn t get imitrex tablets, get the imitrex or generic nasal spray or imitrex or generic injection OR treximex tablets but NOT imitrex tablets. - Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. But, the nasal spray DOES work incredibly well and this is what is usually prescribed anyway. - Almotriptan. brand name Axert. a very powerful triptan tablet.
20841174 tn?1531305522 I took Trokendi XR for 3 years due to migraine variant but it has very bad side effects. I am trying to get off of it. I have one month to go. I take clonazempam for my vomiting at night it is a benzodiazepine, and then when I started getting the headaches I took imitrex. My neurologist said I can take 100mg. So I would ask a neurologist to see what they think is good for you. They tried other things on me too. So it is best to try the drugs with the least side effects.
Avatar m tn t comfortable with most of them. He did suggest trying CoQ10, which is a supplement with no side effects, and he said they were seeing great results with it. It can take a couple of months to kick in, and it can be a bit pricey (I wait until CVS has it buy 1 get 1 free.) She has seen dramatic results and in the past 6 months has had only one migraine. It also seems to be a supplement that supports overall health as well.
390338 tn?1206462648 I really can't say that the Topamax is helping yet. I have been slowly increasing the dosage. I guess maybe if I stretch the positive a little I was at the point of getting migraines that were lasting at least 3 days sometimes 4 with only a few days break before getting another. Now I have been having a full week in between but some pretty good headaches that others still might consider a migraine. So, he did increase from 100mg to 125mg today. So, I'm not sure yet.
Avatar m tn Are you sure it's a migraine? I have migraines and thought withdrawals triggered them, too. But, it was actually tension headaches. You may want to get a script for something like Imitrex and try it. I will tell you that for most people, the headaches go away in a month or so. So, try and just tough it out.
591470 tn?1218975186 When I was taking a course of chemo I had the worst migraines ever and the Imitrex really helped me. It gave me slight light headedness but well worth the side effects. It is by prescription. If you haven't tried it.....give it is shot. It might help.
Avatar n tn ve ended up in the ER. Does the Imitrex give you any side effects? They gave it to me in the ER and I had a bad reaction, I don't know what to take at this point.
Avatar n tn It feels like a very dull pressure under my eyebrow near the nose, and it starts following the ocular headache and is constant thereafter. Also, I feel like it mildly effects the vision in my right eye long term. I saw an eye doctor about this, and she said she didn't find any blind spots in the test she did, but it feels as if the right eye no longer receives as much light as the left - almost as if I'm looking through a barrel or something.

314128 tn?1226857620 not much....and it is addicting as well...One of the main side effects is headaches...hard as heck to come off of after years of use.....I am not sure if people build a tolerence to sub or not like to other narcotics.....safer way to use i guess than taking tons of pills illegally for pain...but it is still addicting and will control ur life in the long run like the pills did..it is not approved for pain relief here in the USA but is in other countries...
Avatar f tn I have had daily headaches for well over a couple years. Four to five years ago my doc thought they were migraines and I took Imitrex about once every 2 weeks. Then I started getting a worse headache from the Imitrex, like my entire head was supersensitive, my hair hurt. He sent me to a neurologist who diagnosed occiptal neuralgia. That doc has been giving me botox injections in my neck and prescribed Lyrica. I can't afford the Lyrica -- its $300 a month.
Avatar m tn Most people experience at least some type of side effect from most medications. Some side effects are more bothersome than others of course. Over the counter it seems like there are hundreds of different options but in reality they contain the same handful of drugs in different combinations and/or strengths. From what you said in your post it looks like you have tried them all.
