Avatar n tn Ask your doctor for Imitrex 100mg, is not narcotic, non addictive and it takes away your migraine right away. I'm also a migraine surferer and have tried a lot of medications and Imitrex works wonders.
Avatar f tn Hi jcovaliu, Lots of us here on the forum suffer from chronic migraines, so we can really sympathize with you. Many of us have tried multiple preventative medications before finding the right preventative medication that worked for us. The Elatrolet you are taking is a preventative medication, it's generic name is Amitriptyline.
Avatar m tn I don't believe that imitrex is addictive .
Avatar f tn Imitrex is a really good(non narcotic) drug for migraines. It helped my sinus headaches.
656111 tn?1273820739 Anyway, I am taking Imitrex for my migraines. Well, I had problem with script to fill Imitrex medicine couple years ago.... it only supplys 9 and only covers one any type of migraine medication PER month. When I ran out of it, I asked my doctor to give me script for more Imitrex and I dropped script off at Walgreens then few minutes later, pharmacist told me that insurance was not covering that...
Avatar m tn But, it was actually tension headaches. You may want to get a script for something like Imitrex and try it. I will tell you that for most people, the headaches go away in a month or so. So, try and just tough it out.
Avatar f tn Hi Mandy, Imitrex tablets have done wonders for my headaches/migraines. Fioricet didn't touch my pain but even if I take a half of an Imitrex tablet for the nasty headaches that aren't quite migraines yet, I feel so much better. I save a whole tablet or sometimes 2 tabs for the whopper migraines. Imitrex is in a class of medication known as sumatriptans and is not a narcotic. You definitely need insurance for it since it's expensive but the copays aren't bad at all.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar f tn m not sure if my body had simply grown tolerant being on the same dose dly for 5-6 yrs or if it was because of the increased demands my body had to go through this past year, but I made the difficult decision to increase my oxycontin to 50mg three times dly. I have also been on fioricet and imitrex PRN for my many headaches and migraines. I suspect that my headaches have increased in frequency and intensity to the point that I have them daily because of all the meds I take.
Avatar n tn t take away the migraine but if I took one early enough, it might make it possible for me to go a bit longer before taking an Imitrex, thereby making the expensive Imitrex last longer. But, like you, I started taking them too often. Luckily, I have a doctor who does not like to prescribe pain pills so he shut me down. Then my new doctor refuses to prescribe them. So I haven't taken them for years. I am so sorry that you have this problem. Migraines are not something I would wish on anyone.
Avatar f tn Doctors are hesitant to prescribe it as it is a narcotic, and therefore has the potential to be addictive. You might want to look for a neurologist who specializes in headaches.
518798 tn?1295212279 t had a true migraine in years, but I feel one coming on. I would NOT take anything narcotic for it even if I had it. I have been eating advil and excedrin tension headache. I have been digging looking to see if I can find some imitrex here. I had a prescription years ago and I don't think I used them all, but that was "back in the day" and I don't really know what I have/had.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
609050 tn?1221934053 GoingToMakeIt: I just now saw your avatar. It's ADORABLE, and so appropriate. Today has been better, although I've had to use Imitrex twice already. But Imitrex is not a narcotic. It's the one thing that almost always works on my migraines, so I really NEVER have an excuse to take any pain meds. Harvey: Thanks for your encouragement. I'd like to encourage you, also! Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back up on that wagon!!!
1200450 tn?1317496867 While I was there, I told him that I had been having headaches also and was wondering if he could give me anything non narcotic like imitrex. When I said this, he actually laughed at me and in a snide voice said, "what? Tylenol doesn't work for you?". It was a very uncomfortable moment. It was almost like he was laughing at me because he just KNEW I would come in and ask for pain meds. I felt humiliated. He wrote me the script anyways and on my way I went.
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
Avatar f tn It gets better everyday. Have you tried Imitrex? I suffer from killer migraines and it helps me a lot, its otc, cheap and non-narcotic. Give it a try. Just curious, do you still have the Percs? If you do, you should flush them, it's better to stay away from temptation, our mind is always looking for a good excuse. You might think, just one pill won't hurt...it will, trust me on this. Stay strong you are doing great!
Avatar f tn They eventually started me on narcotic pain meds and for the last 2-3 years I have been on 20mg oxycontin 1x day, 15mg oxycodone 4x day, flexeril 1x day and cambia as needed (insurance only allowed 9 a month). Oh, forgot to mention I was in a car accident in 2003. Some issues with my c4-c6. Docs assumed this is where the headaches were coming from. Due to my husband's job, we had to move overseas.
Avatar n tn I took botox injections in the neck and shoulder plus muscle relaxants and some narcotic pain medication as needed before getting pregnant -- and imitrex for the headaches. My OB has given me lortab to take and she feels comfortable with it on a an as needed basis. I am looking for some more comfort that this ok -- I took it with my first baby as well -- but still. She also gave me the option of tramadol.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar n tn If one gets so bad that I have to go to the doctor, I I get a tordal shot (which is a pain killer, but not a narcotic) and , a nausa shot. Sometimes with IV fluids. At home I first try taking an ultram pill at home; again not a narcotic, but a pain killer and something for the nausa. This is just what I do. I hope everyones posts will help you . Good.
