Imitrex naproxen combination

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex naproxen combination

imitrex

Avatar f tn I am having trouble determining whether my migraine medication, Imitrex, is one them. Sumitriptan and naproxen are not on the list, but since this drug narrows blood vessels, I wonder if it's best not to take it before surgery.

768044 tn?1294223436 The medication Treximet is a combination of Imitrex and Naproxen so that is what gave me the idea to start taking the naproxen at the same time as my Zomig... well, actually it was my doctor's idea, because I asked him about Treximet and he told me I could just take my regular triptan and naproxen at the same time. Also, oh, I didn't put Treximet down as an option, I am so sorry!! It's so new that I completely forgot about it! Oops, umm...
Avatar f tn so, you could maybe, if your doctor thought it was a good idea, mix up your treatment plan by using Imitrex sometimes and Naproxen sometimes, IF the Naproxen worked. Otherwise... talk to your doctor about other non-triptan options for pain control. AND... most important, get your doctor to switch you to a new preventative, because the ELATROLET isn't working for you (it didn't work for me either!).
Avatar m tn Sometimes people use a medication called Naproxen in combination with their triptans, and that works very well. Sometimes people use an antiemetic along with a pain killer (such as Tylenol+Codeine OR Naproxen) OR triptan, one of the most effective antiemetics for migraines is Metoclopramide. I hope that you find an effective treatment plan for these headaches soon! Keep in touch!
701581 tn?1279136038 You may want to ask your doctor if taking a fast-acting triptan in combination with naproxen would be helpful in your case. Another often prescribed combination is the antiemetic Metoclopramide combined with either a triptan or a pain killer. When Metoclopramide is prescribed with a pain killer, it is most often combined with Tylenol. It is my personal opinion that combining it with Naproxen is safter for those with migraines, since Tylenol can cause rebound headaches.
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.

Avatar f tn Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?
635402 tn?1270162477 The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain. GSK has spent several years and millions of dollars researching and "pre-marketing" Treximet in anticipation of FDA approval and product launch. So what's the deal? Is this really better than Imitrex alone?
Avatar f tn Medications that are commonly used for the acute treatment include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), dihydroergotamine (DHE), the triptans, and the combination of aspirin, acetaminophen, and caffeine (AAC). If severe attacks cannot be controlled with these medications- analgesics, corticosteroids, or dihydroergotamine may be prescribed. For preventive treatment, short-term prophylaxis taken perimenstrually can be effective. Hormonal therapy may also be indicated.
Avatar f tn Naproxen is just ibuprofen, which is Motrin and Aleve. I would think Celebrex would help a lot more than Naproxen. It can't hurt to ask for it. Naproxen didn't do anything for me, except hurt my stomach. The Celebrex helped a lot, right away.
Avatar f tn The doctor said that there is nothing I can do about it apart from taking strong painkillers. The dr. has suggestes to take Naproxen but unfortunatly, I get really bad stomach ache when taking Naproxen. Does anyone know any tips that could help me to get rid of the horrible pain and any tips for weight loss with PCOS?
768044 tn?1294223436 Thanks for telling me about this group. I have these headaches everyday and can use all the help I can get. It looks like I'll have to stop using Naproxen all together. It's not really super effective on these headaches anyway. I just had an endoscopy and the GI said that he found a couple of areas of concern and took a couple of gastric biopsies. It's too soon to know what the results will be, since I was told it could take at least a week and a half to get the results back.
Avatar n tn t get imitrex tablets, get the imitrex or generic nasal spray or imitrex or generic injection OR treximex tablets but NOT imitrex tablets. - Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. But, the nasal spray DOES work incredibly well and this is what is usually prescribed anyway. - Almotriptan. brand name Axert. a very powerful triptan tablet.
1100598 tn?1413127426 one every month or so with the aura, which was treated with Imitrex. After a concussion last summer, I started getting them almost daily, where I would get blurry vision, tremors in my hands, nausea, difficulty speaking, pain in the left temple, and falling. My doctor started me on Topamax, 100mg, which has helped with the symptoms, although I still fall occassionally. She was able to rule out epilepsy. I was wondering if anyone else has these symptoms when they have a migraine?
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
1103688 tn?1257894552 t take Imitrex because it causes me to have severe heart palpitations (bad enough that I have to be hospitalized - I've only been given it once, and that was all it took). The thing that works best for me as a preventative is Excedrin - just plain old, over-the-counter Excedrin, but the problem with this is that I have multiple digestive problems, among which is the tendency to develop gastric ulcers, and my gastroenterologist would really like it if I would stop taking Excedrin.
Avatar m tn on day 10....today my doctor prescribed me Naproxen for my chronic back pain. I know I could search this, but would rather ask anyone with any experience with it's use. Good idea or not to use after 10 days clean. I dont even know if it's a "mild" narcotic or not, however I believe it's similar to Aleeve. Advice? thanks in advance.
616582 tn?1225068601 I get migraines and the only thing that knocks them out is ergotamine or DHE (basically the same thing). I'm on some antidepressants such as Luvox that can conflict with it and would like to find an alternative. It's a dangerous combination. I've tried all the triptans such as imitrex, maxalt, etc, and that family of drugs does not help at all. The latest thing I've tried is Midrin but that did not help at all either Is there anything new or a different family of drugs to try?
Avatar n tn Hi I have just been diagnosed with Rhuemertoid Arthritis and was presbribed with Sulfasalazine, Naproxen and Omeprazole DR. My ccp lgg count is 41 unit which is a moderate positive level. I wonder whether I can just take Sulfasalazine and avoid Naproxen (pain killer) and Omeprazole (acid reducer) if pain is within my endurance level. I really dont want to upset my stomach by flooding with drugs.
393986 tn?1303825975 t remember anyone else asking this. Ever since starting the steroids and naproxen, my stomach has been hurting like crazy. I have an ulcer and I'm afraid that it is now a bleeding ulcer. I am still unable to start the methotrexate, and now I feel like this thing is going to set it back even farther now. Is it unreasonable to ask the Dr's for the i.v. administration of meds instead of the pills?
