Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex for sinus headache

imitrex

Avatar f tn Im now on Butorphanol spray, demerol, ativan and sleeping pills, all for pain management, ,i have also been on preventatives for years,i have not worked for 20 yrs from my intense migraines. Although Imitrex im sure works for alot of people which is great if your body reacts well to it, unfortunately for me it didnt. Wishing you well in your journey.
Avatar m tn It could be the sinus infection, or a migraine headache. Sinus infections take a long time to go away. Try using a metal bowl and hot water and steaming your nose but don't burn yourself. Antibiotics can help but they are not always necessary. Some people get migraines every day. Ibupropin takes my migraines away. Imitrex is a better drug for them. Don't they have a county hospital where you could go for free or public health department?
Avatar f tn s too late because I did not treat it in time. Then, even with the Imitrex, I am vomiting and down for the count for awhile. Hopefully, yours are not migraines...that would be great! Or, if they are then hopefully after the baby, and after nursing, you can go back on Topa (if you want) and keep them under control. I don't know...I'm like you...confused. Actually, I am sick and tired of being sick and tired!
Avatar n tn Taking imitrex daily is likely setting her up for rebound headaches. I didn't take it daily, but experienced rebound headache before after taking imitrex. If she has not had an MRI (or CT scan) of her brain, her doctor should be ordering one to try to rule out brain tumor, aneurysm, or anything else that might cause headaches. You won't know if it's something like that until you test- so please urge her to get the pictures of her brain!
Avatar f tn What can cause a headache at bridge of nose? It happens 2-3 times per month and always lasts 24 hours. I've seen two ENT's and a neurologist but no answers. I've had septoplasty and turbinate reduction but got no relief. Imitrex for migraine helps if I take it at the onset but I don't believe it's a migraine. If I press on the top of my nose it relieves the pain but it comes back as soon as I release.
2069693 tn?1331365365 As of now Ive had a migraine for 7 straight days! Its horrible!!! Ive taken Demerol, imitrex, tylenol/cod., Ibuprofen (with caffeine), tomamax...on and on. can someone please suggest, or give me some feed back !
Avatar f tn I know I have Imitrex and I'm on Topamax for preventative. This is more tension than migraine...it's almost as painful, but different type of pain. And the Imitrex only works if it's a true migraine and I've wasted the last 3 Imitrex hoping it would help, and those suckers aren't cheap!!! But I REALLY appreciate the advice....I really do.
776539 tn?1235582251 Hi, The first thing to do would be to maintain a headache diary or use the migraine tracker to identify the triggers for your migraine. Red wine, caffeine, processed meats, aged cheese, chocolates, MSG and artificial sweeteners are common migraine triggers. I would also suggest you to take magnesium supplements which have shown very good results in reducing the frequency of migraines. You will need medications like Imitrex to abort the attack once it has started.
Avatar n tn Hi, i am so sorry to hear about your headaches. I too suffer from migraines (28/female) and have been since i was about 4. The only medication that works for me is Imitrex (sumitriptan) the "triptans" are a a bunch of meds that are used to treat migraines. Although migraines are usually one sided and you get sensitivity to light and nausea, i have had "migraines" that were like a stabbing, almost burning radiating from my neck to my forehead...
Avatar n tn Just today I started to have some pressure on the sides of my head near the temples and tension in my neck, I would normally say its just sinus pressure as I do have sinus trouble but this is different then usual it was sudden and felt a little light headed and a little sick to my stomach. Also i have had the shakes for a few weeks now not sure why going to see the Doc next week so if anyone out there knows why this is happening please let me know... Thank You.
Avatar f tn Congratulations on 6 days & flushing the flex's. Glad your headache is subsiding!
Avatar m tn he thinks he is dying, we have done ct, mri mra scans and all came back ok, we have been to 4 diffrent neoroligists and have not gotten any relief from any of them, when we go I feel like all we want is pain killers for his head!!! NO WE WANT HELP!!!! what do we do???
709686 tn?1277432159 of all migraines hit me about 2pm. When I got home I took a 10mg Imitrex tablet and laid down. Now these Imitrex tablets make me very sleepy so once the headache began to fade I went soundly asleep around 6pm and slept until 6am. Since I skipped dinner last night I was quite weak this morning until I ate breakfast. I only took one 10mg norco tablet during this time as I am on my "taper" schedule. I was quite proud of myself.
Avatar f tn There are a lot of different medications you can have on hand when bad headaches start so you dont have to feel miserable for too long. I have a prescription for Imitrex and only take it on rare occassion when I feel a whopper headache/migraine coming on. Otherwise, I just take ibuprophen/Advil if my head is a little achy. I really hope you feel better soon.
Avatar f tn also, if someone offered you a medication that worked as well as Imitrex, you would probably use it when you were in pain as a substitute for Imitrex... which all shows that Imitrex is in no way addictive. As for physical dependency... well, I have heard of the triptan Maxalt causing rebound headaches, which could be considered a type of physical dependency maybe... but, out of all of the triptans, the ONLY triptan that has shown this is Maxalt, not Imitrex.
1051752 tn?1253833456 Hi Mel98233 If you know that the headache is a migraine, take your imitrex RIGHT away, even if there is no aura. Advil will usually do nothing for a migraine headache, like you have found out for yourself, and will very often make a migraine headache much worse. Imitrex on the other hand is migraine medication and will stop a migraine. Advil is not migraine medication and can cause problems by making headaches worse.
397977 tn?1201264847 I have tried in the last few years Imitrex tablets but with my nausea they were awful and I threw up for hours after taking them, thus, not helping the migraines at all. So, after another really bad few weeks with migraines over and over again I went back to the doctor and he prescribed a low dose of amitryptaline and Imetrex Nasal. I am not a pill taker so this was hard for me to accept. But, the migraines were not good for me either.
479419 tn?1208127685 My suggestion would be to try treating the headache like a normal migraine as opposed to a normal sinus headache... so, instead of applying heat or steam to your head, apply an icepack (with a cloth around it of course) to where it hurts (for the majority of people, heat on the head irritates the heck out of a migraine, whereas cold relives pain). Use the migraine meds instead of the sinus meds when you feel any "sinus" pain as it could be the first signs of a migraine attack.
Avatar f tn Diet can also be a factor with both, as can the thyroid or other hormonal problems. Sinus congestion, and the medication for it, can also cause these problems, and can also be caused by something you're eating or exposed to, and is a sign of an overactive immune system. So you've got a constellation of stuff going on, and it would be good if you could get to the root cause, though we all know how hard that is to do.
1103688 tn?1257894552 Not all triptans are made with the same ingredients and so not all triptans will have the same side-effects. For example, Imitrex is the only triptan that is also a Sulfa drug (many people have Sulfa allergies). Imitrex is known to cause the side-effect you mentioned in some people, the severe heart palpitations.
Avatar f tn I go to bed without a headache, sleep well for 4 to 5 hours, then fall back to sleep 2 or 3 times 6:00 a.m. I wake up the second or third time with a painful migraine headache. The Frova is starting not to have an effect and Imitrex injection works. What would cause me to continually wake up early mornings with pounding migraines. I don't have and endless supply of medicine. Does any one have an opinion what is going on? I have a very good diet and don't drink..please advise.......
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar m tn I though I was having sinus headaches but after talking to a neurologist learned that they were migraines. The doctor said a few things I mentioned let him know they were migraines not sinus headaches. They last only 24 hours, I'm light-sensitive w/the headache, I'm nauseaus (and sometimes do vomit), worst pain ever definitely a 7 or higher. Sinus headaches do not cause light or sound sensitivity or nausea. Also, migraines are recurrent.
518798 tn?1295212279 Good Morning guys! I woke up with another migraine this morning. This is the 3rd one this month. I usually have about 2 in a year, but never this close together and this often. I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. I was just wanting some info from someone who has taken it.
