does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.

I am not at the point where I have a migraine headache 3-4 days per week. I take half and imitrex (to save cost) each time. There are occasions when the headache is so bad that I have to take it twice in a 12 hour period. My neurologist wants me to discontinue Imitrex due to the side effects associated with it at my age as well as the overuse. I don't know what to do anymore. Headaches are completely ruining my life. At least with the Imitrex I can somewhat function. Help!

I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.

What is the athena blood test?...Had a headache now since May, all regular tests have come back normal, been ckecked for lupus MS and a hodge podge of things and still no results ..now they are talking about this athena test ...other sypmtoms are considered separate because they started later except for legs swelling. On Topamax 75 mg 2x day for it and still no results. can't use imitrex...bad reaction to it what does this test do to help find my problem and why does it cost so much!

If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.

Shooting pain in the left eye, one-sided migraine on left side, I have formally been diagnosed with a Scintillating scotoma aura with classic migraine as well as the speech impairments during migraine, however Topamax, Maxalt, Imitrex, etc.. have never worked for me. I often have tingling sensations in my feet. I have irritability more so than I used to and have bouts of the inability to make a decision. I can spend hours in the meat section at WalMart deciding what meat to buy. Simple as that..

If you already have a current rx, Walmart has extremely low cost prescriptions for many common medications. I think they charge only 4 dollars, something like that.

The best meter is the one they use at the hospital I forget the brand/modle number. Im sure they can tell you. Cost about $5,000 and $5.00 a test strip. Walmart has meters for $14.99 and $26 for 100 test strips. ALL meters sold to the public have to be %20 accurate 90% of the time. My Best meter is the one the insurance will cover the cost of the test strips.

I have no direct experience with the medications you mention, but can say my insurance requires (or I pay a big cost penalty) me to use generic drugs. These are, however, US distributed. I believe many people buy drugs from Canada to save money, but I have my doubts about the quality of anything that can be ordered over the Internet without a prescription...assuming a prescription is required in the US.

I have tried in the last few years Imitrex tablets but with my nausea they were awful and I threw up for hours after taking them, thus, not helping the migraines at all. So, after another really bad few weeks with migraines over and over again I went back to the doctor and he prescribed a low dose of amitryptaline and Imetrex Nasal. I am not a pill taker so this was hard for me to accept. But, the migraines were not good for me either.

They require a prescription, but the generic Warfarin is available at very low cost, e.g., Walmart. The bigger cost for being on an anticoagulant is getting the blood tests to be sure the level of medication is right. But given you can't take aspirin (did you take them with food?), there doesn't seem to be another choice. I do not know anything about Ginseng...but be careful with herbs, some can be dangerous.
