Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar f tn now over the lasgt 2 weeks I have experienced a more scary chest pain...it is stronger and the first time I noticed it it took my breath away. it then got occasional for a couple days and now today it is back. it feels like my heart is beating like crazy but my pulse is normal. it feels like something is stuck in my throat and that I need to vomit. does anyone know what this could mean...is it because of my meds (imitrex) or maybe taking too much over the counter pain pills.

Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).
Avatar f tn Hi Mandy, Imitrex tablets have done wonders for my headaches/migraines. Fioricet didn't touch my pain but even if I take a half of an Imitrex tablet for the nasty headaches that aren't quite migraines yet, I feel so much better. I save a whole tablet or sometimes 2 tabs for the whopper migraines. Imitrex is in a class of medication known as sumatriptans and is not a narcotic. You definitely need insurance for it since it's expensive but the copays aren't bad at all.
Avatar f tn If you suffer from any type of chest pain or excessive breathing trouble with exertion, you should discuss this with your primary doctor, and he/she can initiate the appropriate testing such as stress test etc. Some women require hormonal therapy after menopause.
341655 tn?1240368839 However an injection will provide quick relief from migraine pain as it reaches faster into the blood stream as compared to pills. Imitrex injection provides relief in about 10 minutes. Injections are usually prescribed in people who want quick relief from rapid onset migraine or suffer from morning migraines. Hope this answers your question.
Avatar f tn also, if someone offered you a medication that worked as well as Imitrex, you would probably use it when you were in pain as a substitute for Imitrex... which all shows that Imitrex is in no way addictive. As for physical dependency... well, I have heard of the triptan Maxalt causing rebound headaches, which could be considered a type of physical dependency maybe... but, out of all of the triptans, the ONLY triptan that has shown this is Maxalt, not Imitrex.
Avatar f tn Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar f tn I know I have Imitrex and I'm on Topamax for preventative. This is more tension than migraine...it's almost as painful, but different type of pain. And the Imitrex only works if it's a true migraine and I've wasted the last 3 Imitrex hoping it would help, and those suckers aren't cheap!!! But I REALLY appreciate the advice....I really do.
791533 tn?1309745344 So he prescribed me imitrex pills. They made me feel worse. Imitrex pills actually made me feel like someone was crushing my chest and my heart was about to stop--plus nausea. I knew that the injections would still be worthless to me, because I was terrified of the needle. I don't know why, but I feel like I'm more of a wimp now. There have been several ER trips in the last 3 years where I just couldn't take the pain anymore. I couldn't.
1510636 tn?1290087012 t wait too long as chest pain related to the heart can damaging to the heart cells and compound the medical problem. Thanks for the question, and if you have any further questions you are welcome to respond.
Avatar f tn the reason I ask is that I was diagnosed several years ago adn the dr. says this causes chest pain and heart palpitations as well as migraines and low blood pressure-all of which I have recently experienced. Please keep me posted!!
518798 tn?1295212279 Good Morning guys! I woke up with another migraine this morning. This is the 3rd one this month. I usually have about 2 in a year, but never this close together and this often. I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. I was just wanting some info from someone who has taken it.
Avatar f tn I would go on for hours with the severe sharp pain in the center of my chest becoming progressively worse until I vomited. Vomiting would bring only temporary relief then everything would start all over again. At first, anti-diarrheal medication would help and if I could take a Valium before I started vomiting then it would make it better. A doctor suggested I insert Valium vaginally because I was throwing up.
Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
591470 tn?1218975186 Have you tried Imitrex tabs or the Imitrex shot. When I was taking a course of chemo I had the worst migraines ever and the Imitrex really helped me. It gave me slight light headedness but well worth the side effects. It is by prescription. If you haven't tried it.....give it is shot. It might help.
Avatar f tn I wonder if Imitrex, which has worked for my migraine pain, would be okay to take for this paresthesia (without pain) which is apparently due to migraine?
635402 tn?1270162477 The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain. GSK has spent several years and millions of dollars researching and "pre-marketing" Treximet in anticipation of FDA approval and product launch. So what's the deal? Is this really better than Imitrex alone?

Avatar f tn After taking 100mg of Imitrex for my migraines, within 3 hours after I usually feel all of a sudden kind of "out of it". I am just really "slow" feeling and neutral in personality unlike usual. Is this typical? Why does it do this?
Avatar n tn ve eaten food or not. Once the vomiting starts, I am unable to take anything orally - pain meds or even water. Does anyone know of a patch or cream that can be applied as a pain reliever for the migraine? Or maybe to at least stop the vomiting?
Avatar n tn I been getting migraines for about 8 years now. I am 26 yrs old. I get the pain in 1 spot on the right side of my forehead and a pain coming from the back of my neck at the same time. The only thing to help this go away is 100mg's of imitrex. I can't figure out what triggers these after all this time...I just wish there was a way I got a million tests such as mri's, catscans, medication to prevent them etc...I just wish they would go away forever i don't know what else to do..
