Four to five years ago my doc thought they were migraines and I took Imitrex about once every 2 weeks. Then I started getting a worse headache from the Imitrex, like my entire head was supersensitive, my hair hurt. He sent me to a neurologist who diagnosed occiptal neuralgia. That doc has been giving me botox injections in my neck and prescribed Lyrica. I can't afford the Lyrica -- its $300 a month.

I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.

s experience with the imitrex has been - good or bad - and if they have any other tips of things I can try (non-medicinal) to reduce the pain, etc., of the migraines. I have this pressure Mainly on my left side and had numbness and tingling along w/ it. I acutally had some blurry vision and got really confused and thought I was dying. . Originally I went to the ER thinking it was a stroke or an anuerism they did a CTscan and found nothing. Well the feelings are still here a month later. I have since had an MRI of the brain (neurologist MS ruled out), Blood tests, Heart & Corotid artery ultrasounds. They found nothing.

I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. I took the medication and I was sitting in my reclining chair and in about 15 mins I became paralyzed for 2.5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol. Only Imitrex. My husband honestly thought I was joking. I could not lift my head.

Most migraines do not come with aura. Take that into consideration when you get a headache that feels exactly like your regular migraine just without an aura. That means you are having a migraine. Ask your doctor for Imitrex 100mg, is not narcotic, non addictive and it takes away your migraine right away. I'm also a migraine surferer and have tried a lot of medications and Imitrex works wonders.

I have suffered exploding head syndrome (also known as migraines) for many, many years. I found that Imitrex didn't work and when they were severe would have to go to the hospital and be shot full of demerol and vistaril (an antihistamine that made me sleep). m not sure if my body had simply grown tolerant being on the same dose dly for 5-6 yrs or if it was because of the increased demands my body had to go through this past year, but I made the difficult decision to increase my oxycontin to 50mg three times dly. I have also been on fioricet and imitrex PRN for my many headaches and migraines. I suspect that my headaches have increased in frequency and intensity to the point that I have them daily because of all the meds I take.

so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...

I will tell you..Imitrex helped me sooo much..and funny thing..when I divorced the a$$ I was married to,my migraines went away..LOL..I'm serious..Now I have maybe 1 a year..but i have noticed that I have already had 2 now since june..I think it's the same cause..

Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?

Her doctor had her taking Geodon to help her sleep along with Zoloft for depression. She started to gain weight and became even more reclusive so we found a specialist out of town to check her Thyroid. She was diagnosed with Hypothyrodism and told to get off the Geodon because it causes weight gain and possibly Diabeties (he was pretty upset that she was taking Geodon and believes she's been mis-diagnosed). Sure enough, she's pre-diabetic and now also taking Byetta and Metformin.

I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. I'm not sure if he will let me go to a neurologist or not, I have to go back and see him in two weeks, but thanks so much for your response, you're the first that ididn't actually tell me there wasn't anything to treat it.

I am having trouble determining whether my migraine medication, Imitrex, is one them. Sumitriptan and naproxen are not on the list, but since this drug narrows blood vessels, I wonder if it's best not to take it before surgery.

What about Aleve, indomethacin, and the triptans (Zomig, Imitrex, Maxalt, Relpax) in the event that I do end up getting a migraine during this time? I was told I could take tylenol, not that it would dent one of my headaches. I asked the audiologists office but apparently they forgot to ask and now the audiologist is out of town. Under the treatments for migraines why isn't Imitrex or Fioranal listed?

Since money is tight, I want to ask around and see if this could be something serious before going out and spending money to try and fix it. My migraines almost always involve auras, and hurt over one or both eyes. Occasionally, they get bad enough so that the eye that the pain is focused on goes blurry, and I get nauseous and sick. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. But if anybody knows anything, I would love to get some advice.

I nee help. My mom is 45 and she has terrible headaches everyday. She takes Imitrex. She takes it everyday. She had bad headaches since 10 years ago, but now it's everyday that she has one. It's been like that for a month? What is wrong with her? I hope it's not some kind of tumor. Would migraine pill work for headache caused by tumor?
