Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex and narcotics

imitrex

Avatar n tn Go to bed with them, wake with them. I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. I took the medication and I was sitting in my reclining chair and in about 15 mins I became paralyzed for 2.5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol. Only Imitrex. My husband honestly thought I was joking.
507619 tn?1211845850 I use the Imitrex nasal spray and it gets rid of my headaches with no euphoria or narcotic "haze".
Avatar m tn I take Imitrex when I get them, and it usually works great, but today I have taken the maximum dose on my Rx for a 24 hr. period (200 mg) and it's still not gone. I am wondering if I went to the ER, is there something else they could do -- could they give me more Imitrex, or another triptan or something else to try to stop it? I don't want opiates. Any thoughts appreciated.
1508698 tn?1360215710 m sure there are all kinds now since the original Imitrix patent wore out. With any of these non-narcotics, you do need to take it easy and rest so your migraine doesn't come back. Also, last year i got approved for Botox injections every 3 months that stop the pain signals. You have to have about 15 migraines/month, tried at least 5 other meds, etc. to get approved. Lucky me, I had all that! But it worked for me the first time.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar n tn HR , first thing I would want to know for the doctor is what kind of headaches do you have ..If topamax, imitrex and drugs like elavil are not helping then you probably are not having migraines and its a different type of headache .I have been told by more then one nero doctor if narcotics are making your headaches go away then you don't have migraines .Narcotics do not on migraines . I finally got relief with topamax .After I had had a hyster back in 2005.
314128 tn?1226857620 my girlfriend who strated sub 2 months ago told me her back pain isnt as painfull since she started. but she had been taking pain pills for a long time and she wasnt sure if her back still hurt cause she was still taking pills..
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn s experience with the imitrex has been - good or bad - and if they have any other tips of things I can try (non-medicinal) to reduce the pain, etc., of the migraines. Fortunately, (knock on wood), I haven't had a migraine since I saw my doc on thursday, so I haven't tried the imitrex yet. I'm always leary/hesitant about ANY new medication, so would definitely appreciate any advice about this med that anyone might have. Thanks so much!
1051752 tn?1253833456 Advil is not migraine medication and can cause problems by making headaches worse. Imitrex is migraine medication that is specifically for migraine and it will stop a migraine. Most migraines do not come with aura. Take that into consideration when you get a headache that feels exactly like your regular migraine just without an aura. That means you are having a migraine. You don't need an aura to have a migraine. Take your migraine medication for a migraine.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor for Imitrex 100mg, is not narcotic, non addictive and it takes away your migraine right away. I'm also a migraine surferer and have tried a lot of medications and Imitrex works wonders.
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
1056589 tn?1273747102 Imitrex is also not the only triptan on the market, there are quite a few. If you do end up using the Imitrex and you feel you have an adverse reaction to it, one that is not life-threatening but one that you do not enjoy... there are still other triptans to try.
609050 tn?1221934053 My last vice, and the hardest thing to ever kick for me, is pain meds. I have migraines and use Imitrex on a pretty regular basis. Once in a while I'll get a script for hydrocodone from my neurologist, but I ALWAYS misuse it. Then I go a while without using any pain meds. A couple of weeks ago, after a horrible bout of migraines that didn't seem to want to respond much to my Imitrex, I ordered some Fiorinal online.
1079216 tn?1258200805 Usually the bioavailability of a nasal spray will be higher than the bioavailability of a oral tablet, such as with the triptan Zomig, where the bioavailability of the oral tablets is 40% and the bioavailability of the nasal spray is 102% (when the bioavailability is higher than 100% it means that the medication by that route works better then it would by intravenous injection), although this sort of increase between oral administration and nasal administration is not the case with Imitrex.
Avatar f tn I was sent to see a neurologist and explained to him that I wake up every single day in excruciating pain, I might have one day every 3 or 4 months where I am not to the point of wanting to lay in bed all day and not move. He gave me fioricet and imitrex to try, neither helped, I continued a cycle of visiting the doctor every three months and trying new meds to see if they worked, I had a sinus ct, a brain MRI , and a back and neck MRI all came back normal.
Avatar m tn I do take Imitrex for migraines occasionally, but that is non-habit-forming and definitely not a narcotic or any type of addictive medication. The best thing you can do is find a doctor who will wean you off of those hard core meds & get back to basics. Most of the time, narcotics are way over-prescribed and cause much more trouble than help. People really should not take the types of meds you are taking unless they are fighting a life-threatening illness.
Avatar n tn A Triptan drug (Imitrex, Zomig) is about the only thing that works and yes, they are very expensive. I just paid $225.00 for 9 pills yesterday. I get the 100mg. so that I can cut them in half and make eighteen 15 mg. pills. If I am wise and take one as soon as I feel one coming on, I can stop it with one half of the pill. Sometimes it doesn't work and I have to take the other half. That's just one way of stretching them.
979080 tn?1323433639 I have suffered exploding head syndrome (also known as migraines) for many, many years. I found that Imitrex didn't work and when they were severe would have to go to the hospital and be shot full of demerol and vistaril (an antihistamine that made me sleep). It was not until I could sleep would they go away. That sometimes was several rounds from bounceback migraines and I'd be in the ER for days (happened about 4 - 6 months ago).
768044 tn?1294223436 t take the narcotics and just have to live with the pain, hopefully you will find a non-narcotic medication that will control the pain soon. And, yes, migraines can really cause fatigue! I know what you mean! I was in bed since this afternoon after a migraine. I call them migraine "hang overs" because after a migraine I sometimes just feel sort of hung over and fatigued. All I can do is be in bed.
Avatar f tn m not sure if my body had simply grown tolerant being on the same dose dly for 5-6 yrs or if it was because of the increased demands my body had to go through this past year, but I made the difficult decision to increase my oxycontin to 50mg three times dly. I have also been on fioricet and imitrex PRN for my many headaches and migraines. I suspect that my headaches have increased in frequency and intensity to the point that I have them daily because of all the meds I take.
Avatar n tn I have migraines and have had it since 2005. I've tried several tripans and so far Imitrex works most of the time and when I already took 2 imitrex pills (only can take 2 in 24 hrs period) and it didn't go away then I would go to ER. They have gave me variety of pain meds (pills, IV, or injection). They gave me Tordal and Ultram before and it doesn't work. Because its basically same as like Aleve, Tylenol... They usually give me morphine, nubain, or demerol.
Avatar f tn Well you got me interested lol, so I searched Methadone and weight gain on this forum and there are tons of people with the same complaints. Someone said it slows your metabolism and makes you retain water. Do a search and read some of the comments.
Avatar f tn if you have one and ask about Imitrex to stop the headaches although, once you are finally off the codeine, I suspect they will go away as mine did. Wishing you the best of luck!
Avatar f tn None of my babies had any withdrawal - and I was able to breastfeed all three. They are 12yrs, 9yrs, and 6 yrs now and are all very healthy and bright. The oldest was 6 weeks premature and had a small bleed in his brain, but the neonatologist was very clear that the medications I was on had nothing to do with his early arrival. He has a reading disability, but that is hereditary (my husband has the same reading disorder).
