Imitrex and jaw pain

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex and jaw pain

imitrex

Avatar n tn I used to get them everyday in high school (15 years ago) but I found out it was due to TMJ and I started wearing a splint to correct my jaw and after my jaw was corrected, the migraines disappeared. But if you are having them on a daily basis along with rebound headaches (those are the absolute worst I know!), you might want to ask your doctor about Maxalt.
Avatar n tn I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. I took the medication and I was sitting in my reclining chair and in about 15 mins I became paralyzed for 2.5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol. Only Imitrex. My husband honestly thought I was joking. I could not lift my head.

Avatar n tn Thank you so much. I tried calling a neuro, but I need a doctor's referal to go to one. The doctor I've been to just listened to me for about 5 minutes and gave me imitrex...and only 6 of them. I'm not sure if he will let me go to a neurologist or not, I have to go back and see him in two weeks, but thanks so much for your response, you're the first that ididn't actually tell me there wasn't anything to treat it.
Avatar f tn I have never had luck with the immitrex . I usually get a script of vicodin for my migraines and that usually does the trick although I do have to rest in my bed for awhile after taking the vicoden. I have always had better luck with the vicoden especially if the episode is a bad one . I mean sensitivity to light , naseau and the whole nine yards . . I have never been able to pin point the triggers so that never worked for me nor did accupunture .
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar f tn Oh and yes I do have other symptoms such as constant muscle facculations, hyper reflexes in arms and legs, muscle spasms ,nerve pain in legs, brain fog, chronic fatigue, stomach and bladder problems but because I have only had 2 -2 day episodes of verigo and no other balance problems I was told it was not ms. needless to say I am awaiting an aug. app. with my new neurologist......
Avatar f tn i am on meds for depression osteoporosis, thyroid and cholesterol. I have pain pills for my back legs and my jaw. could any of this be a factor. I stay so mixed up I don't know what to do. the doc doesn't ever take me serious about my headaches., I am so tired of all this.
Avatar f tn About three days ago I started getting really bad neck pains that gradually would get worse throughout the day (just like my headaches / migraines). Last night it was the right side, from my temple to my jaw and down to the base of my skull and tonight it's the left side. My occipital nodes are also swollen and have been for weeks along with pretty severe neck pain at the base of my skull.
Avatar f tn He does not believe it is TMJ because it is not concentrated around my jaw. Rather it hurts ALL over from my jaw, temples, sides of my head, forehead, neck, and sometimes shoulders. The MRI came back completely normal. My headache does not respond to Imitrex, Celebrex, or Advil. It does seem to be somewhat alleviated by chewing gum, which seems really strange to me. He has suggested I see a neurologist. I'm wondering if it might be environmental... Any theories?
Avatar f tn My grandaughter has these migraines, has had them for a year, she also had endometriosis. Mom takes her to er and they give her a "cocktail" benydryl, and 2 more things....after so many er visits cant they gice her a pill to take when she feels these things coming on? Just wondered is anyone has dealt with any similar problems out there.
Avatar f tn I've recently been going to a neurologist for a very difficult time with temple pain and upper jaw pain on the right side. For the last two months, I've tried Gabapentin, Amitriptyline, Imitrex, Butalbital, Propanynol and now Toppomax. The doc at first thought it was migraines, but I was not convinced. I can look directly at the sun any time, listen to loud music and have no nausea. The pain is constant has has been. It throbs and seems to stem directly from the temple.
390338 tn?1206462648 I also take Neurontin 3 x day-started taking it 3 years ago after I had a root canal and developed jaw pain that never has gone away. My oral surgeon did an MRI to rule out TMJ, and gave me Neurontin b/c they thought I might have a nerve causing pain in my jaw. I'm trying to get off it b/c I don't think it does anything, and it has its own side effects. Have you ever taken any other preventive meds- like Verapamil, Propanolol or Depakote?
444932 tn?1273980797 i have migranes, and only imitrex works on them...When it is just a bad headache i take excedrin migraine, like cathy, works great!!
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor for Imitrex 100mg, is not narcotic, non addictive and it takes away your migraine right away. I'm also a migraine surferer and have tried a lot of medications and Imitrex works wonders.
1079216 tn?1258200805 Often triptans are used and if triptans do not work, then other migraine medications such as antiemetics and pain killers are used, often given by IV. Also normal saline fluids are usually given by IV to replace any fluid that has been lost as a result of complications if the patient has been vomiting or experiencing nausea or is dehydrated. If emergency treatment fails, then the status migrainosus patient is often treated like a chronic migraine patient in terms of treatment.
Avatar f tn m not sure if my body had simply grown tolerant being on the same dose dly for 5-6 yrs or if it was because of the increased demands my body had to go through this past year, but I made the difficult decision to increase my oxycontin to 50mg three times dly. I have also been on fioricet and imitrex PRN for my many headaches and migraines. I suspect that my headaches have increased in frequency and intensity to the point that I have them daily because of all the meds I take.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
Avatar n tn I was then sent to a TMJ specialist like your son who did jaw therapy which consisted of weird pulsing machines and a mouth piece. It seemed to help, but my headaches weren't completely relieved until I had braces put on later. Although, it sounds like your son has already been down these avenues. I'm not a Dr. but my guess would be that it has something to do with his jaw. Has he had x-rays of his jaw/teeth? Good luck!
Avatar f tn Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar f tn I know I have Imitrex and I'm on Topamax for preventative. This is more tension than migraine...it's almost as painful, but different type of pain. And the Imitrex only works if it's a true migraine and I've wasted the last 3 Imitrex hoping it would help, and those suckers aren't cheap!!! But I REALLY appreciate the advice....I really do.
Avatar n tn Also neck, jaw, ear and facial pain, some motion sickness too. Was taking a ton of pain meds and topomax and imitrex every other day , sinus meds- you name it I took it and nothing was controlling it. Woke with a headache every day, was with me all day, went migraine at night. Was horrible and I'm no wuss when it comes to pain believe me. I ended up in the ER Oct 18th with a migraine we couldn't stop. I literally cried for hours, two doses of IV meds, stayed in bed a week.
Avatar m tn he thinks he is dying, we have done ct, mri mra scans and all came back ok, we have been to 4 diffrent neoroligists and have not gotten any relief from any of them, when we go I feel like all we want is pain killers for his head!!! NO WE WANT HELP!!!! what do we do???
