1056589 tn?1273747102 re having a heart attack, if you feel like you are having a heart attack (extremely severe chest pain) OR an allergic reaction, then go to emergency and they will take care of you. Avatar f tn I have never had luck with the immitrex . I usually get a script of vicodin for my migraines and that usually does the trick although I do have to rest in my bed for awhile after taking the vicoden. I have always had better luck with the vicoden especially if the episode is a bad one . I mean sensitivity to light , naseau and the whole nine yards . . I have never been able to pin point the triggers so that never worked for me nor did accupunture .
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar f tn Not to scare you, but palpitations (the crazy feeling) and chest pain and even migrains can be indication of a heart abnormality. Maybe valve-related or arteries. Please let me know if you had an echo done.
2124631 tn?1335166144 chest pain, jaw/left arm pain, fainting, fast/irregular/pounding heartbeat, vision changes, weakness on one side of the body, confusion, slurred speech, sudden or severe stomach/abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: blue fingers/toes/nails, cold sensation of hands/feet, hearing changes, mental/mood changes, seizures. This medication may rarely cause a very serious condition called serotonin syndrome.
Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).
Avatar f tn i am on meds for depression osteoporosis, thyroid and cholesterol. I have pain pills for my back legs and my jaw. could any of this be a factor. I stay so mixed up I don't know what to do. the doc doesn't ever take me serious about my headaches., I am so tired of all this.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor for Imitrex 100mg, is not narcotic, non addictive and it takes away your migraine right away. I'm also a migraine surferer and have tried a lot of medications and Imitrex works wonders.
Avatar f tn However, age-appropriate screening for risk factors for stroke and heart disease (for example, cholesterol levels, blood sugar) is important regardless of use of imitrex. Cholesterol levels should be checked regularly and treated if present, and if you have diabetes, strict control of it will minimize your risk of heart disease and stroke. Also, cessation of smoking if you smoke will reduce your risk of heart disease or stroke.
1079216 tn?1258200805 Often triptans are used and if triptans do not work, then other migraine medications such as antiemetics and pain killers are used, often given by IV. Also normal saline fluids are usually given by IV to replace any fluid that has been lost as a result of complications if the patient has been vomiting or experiencing nausea or is dehydrated. If emergency treatment fails, then the status migrainosus patient is often treated like a chronic migraine patient in terms of treatment.
Avatar f tn m not sure if my body had simply grown tolerant being on the same dose dly for 5-6 yrs or if it was because of the increased demands my body had to go through this past year, but I made the difficult decision to increase my oxycontin to 50mg three times dly. I have also been on fioricet and imitrex PRN for my many headaches and migraines. I suspect that my headaches have increased in frequency and intensity to the point that I have them daily because of all the meds I take.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
Avatar f tn Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. 1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar f tn I know I have Imitrex and I'm on Topamax for preventative. This is more tension than migraine...it's almost as painful, but different type of pain. And the Imitrex only works if it's a true migraine and I've wasted the last 3 Imitrex hoping it would help, and those suckers aren't cheap!!! But I REALLY appreciate the advice....I really do.
791533 tn?1309745344 So he prescribed me imitrex pills. They made me feel worse. Imitrex pills actually made me feel like someone was crushing my chest and my heart was about to stop--plus nausea. I knew that the injections would still be worthless to me, because I was terrified of the needle. I don't know why, but I feel like I'm more of a wimp now. There have been several ER trips in the last 3 years where I just couldn't take the pain anymore. I couldn't.
1830047 tn?1321667793 I been having bad headaches and so sensitive to light and my eyes hurt so much, but it only last for a few days and also came with burning in my arms and pain in my neck, back and hands, I think is a flare up, normal for me especially when I am stress out, a lot a things going on with my life now, I have a breast lump biopsy coming up soon so I think is because of that.

Avatar n tn I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. I took the medication and I was sitting in my reclining chair and in about 15 mins I became paralyzed for 2.5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol. Avatar f tn the reason I ask is that I was diagnosed several years ago adn the dr. says this causes chest pain and heart palpitations as well as migraines and low blood pressure-all of which I have recently experienced. Please keep me posted!!
1051752 tn?1253833456 Advil is not migraine medication and can cause problems by making headaches worse. Imitrex is migraine medication that is specifically for migraine and it will stop a migraine. Most migraines do not come with aura. Take that into consideration when you get a headache that feels exactly like your regular migraine just without an aura. That means you are having a migraine. You don't need an aura to have a migraine. Take your migraine medication for a migraine.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much. I tried calling a neuro, but I need a doctor's referal to go to one. The doctor I've been to just listened to me for about 5 minutes and gave me imitrex...and only 6 of them. I'm not sure if he will let me go to a neurologist or not, I have to go back and see him in two weeks, but thanks so much for your response, you're the first that ididn't actually tell me there wasn't anything to treat it.
979080 tn?1323433639 I have suffered exploding head syndrome (also known as migraines) for many, many years. I found that Imitrex didn't work and when they were severe would have to go to the hospital and be shot full of demerol and vistaril (an antihistamine that made me sleep). It was not until I could sleep would they go away. That sometimes was several rounds from bounceback migraines and I'd be in the ER for days (happened about 4 - 6 months ago).
518798 tn?1295212279 ve heard about rebound headaches from taking to much medecine I feel she might have to give it all up and go cold turkey the doctor recently added a high blood presure med and another pain med saying that the Imitrix may be causing rebound headaches and that he would like to wean her off the Imitrix and she is now weak and having black outs so went to the hospital this morning IM sure it's from her blood pressure going to low, yikes, this is so frustraiting especially for her she hates being
Avatar f tn At first, they could control these spasms by a few pain shots, a GI cocktail which is lidocaine and Maalox I think and IV Tagamet. The spasms and vomiting would stop after 30 minutes. But, I had to start taking increasing amounts of opioids for my complex regional pain syndrome. So pain shots didn't work anymore, GI cocktail stopped working as well as IV Tagamet. They would load me up with anti-emetics such as Reglan.
