Imitrex and caffeine

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex and caffeine

imitrex

Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
557111 tn?1219712047 Thanks, my mom has some serious migrains and she takes imitrex and it helps a lot. I did take an over the counter migraine med with caffeine in it and it helped a lot. I am doing good though other than this dam* headache!
Avatar n tn Lie in a quiet dark room when you are having the attack and apply cold compresses on the head and neck and do some breathing exercises.
1103688 tn?1257894552 Cafergot may be an option for you, it contains ergotamine tartrate and caffeine. The Cafergot may be especially useful since it also contains caffeine and it appears to be the caffeine in your current acute medications that is working to abort your headaches. It requires a prescription so talk to your neurologist. Good luck! Let me know if you find something!
Avatar f tn Imitrex tablets and the Imitrex injectable pen have completely helped me. I hardly ever need the pen and can usually get away with only half of an Imitrex tab. Hormone headaches are definitely for real, get yourself some pain relief and enjoy feeling better. Take care.
Avatar n tn It feels tight and stiff, and very sore. The pain is not associated with movement, and seems to be present no matter what I'm doing (even when resting my eyes). What bothers me most about this, though, is that there is a very dull, lingering pain in the eye that lasts months after these headaches. It feels like a very dull pressure under my eyebrow near the nose, and it starts following the ocular headache and is constant thereafter.
Avatar f tn What medications other than Imitrex have you tried? Imitrex is a triptan, and although usually very effective, it does not always work for everyone. I would suggest getting a prescription for a different triptan to see if you have more success with a different triptan... as different people react differently to different triptans...
Avatar f tn I have taken Imitrex and it is not addictive. It really works to. Please don't drive or anything until you know how it affects you. It is very expensive by the way.
Avatar n tn Even caffeine is used for some types of headaches. Because methadone is highly addictive, it is unlikely and unwise for that to be at the forefront of treatment in ordinary circumstances. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn s experience with the imitrex has been - good or bad - and if they have any other tips of things I can try (non-medicinal) to reduce the pain, etc., of the migraines. Fortunately, (knock on wood), I haven't had a migraine since I saw my doc on thursday, so I haven't tried the imitrex yet. I'm always leary/hesitant about ANY new medication, so would definitely appreciate any advice about this med that anyone might have. Thanks so much!
1034911 tn?1389546066 HI I had migraines years ago and know how horrible they can be, after reading your post do you think you could be having headaches more frequent because you stopped Excedrin which has caffeine in it and diet coke which also has caffeine? Just a thought I have read that caffeine withdrawal can cause headaches. I know if I start to get a headache I have some coffee and that usually helps.
Avatar f tn I'm a 15 year old girl and I've had a migraine for close to six months now. It's a constant pain from my temples to over my eyes. I've tried countless medicines and none are helping. When I was in 4th grade(5 years ago) I had a migraine for a month. Eventually it went away, but we had extensive tests, and everything came back clear. My neck hurts, moving hurts, I'm sensitive to light and sound, I'm nauseous, my migraine is very optical.
429700 tn?1308007823 I was off of caffeine completely for several years, and started having back on caffeine when I went to Italy (who can not try capaccino while in Italy?). When I came back, I've started back on the caffeinated sodas and coffee. Now I have a real problem again. Yesterday, I had the worst migraine of my life because I forgot my morning "fix" of caffeine.
Avatar f tn if you have one and ask about Imitrex to stop the headaches although, once you are finally off the codeine, I suspect they will go away as mine did. Wishing you the best of luck!
Avatar f tn I have migraines a few times a month (2-3) and take 50mg generic imitrex with an OTC NSAID. So after having two different doctors tell me that I need to get an "official diagnosis" of migraines from a neurologist, I finally saw a neuro. yesterday. To say that I am confused and angry is an understatement! For $250 he told me that I have mixed migraines/tension headaches and to reduce my stress and that my migraines would improve or lessen.
Avatar n tn I been getting migraine headaches for about 7 years now. I get them in 1 spot over my right eye and the pain shoots from the back of my neck. I have had many mri's and cat scans done everything is supposedly fine just the fact that I get migraines. I thank God for IMITREX which I take 100mg's of because it is a miracle worker within 20 minutes. I usually get them maybe 3x a month recently I have had one every day for 2 weeks almost!
Avatar n tn For years, before all the modern trpitan drugs were available, I used naprosyn and caffeine tablets to delay a migraine. I was never able to really stop one, but this combination worked very well for me and is very affordable in the USA and would delay a migraine for me for hours. From a lifetime of having migraines nothing much can stop it if the migraine is too far advanced (unless you get an injection to enable you to sleep it off).. Good luck in Panama!
Avatar n tn I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. I took the medication and I was sitting in my reclining chair and in about 15 mins I became paralyzed for 2.5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol. Only Imitrex. My husband honestly thought I was joking. I could not lift my head.
Avatar f tn Hi, You are right in saying that there are types of food that can trigger migraine headaches. Caffeine in coffee, chocolates, peanuts and processed foods including MSG are also associated with this condition. There is a migraine tracker here in Medhelp that may help you out. There are plenty of migraine headaches in the market today and treatment is usually trial and error for some. Imitrex or sumatriptan is used to treat migraine headaches, with or without aura, in adults.
Avatar n tn I have never experienced an aura-I usually get the pain on one side(usually my left) that generates to behind my left eye. The headaches pretty much incapacitate me- I am nauseated-feel dizzy-overall malaise. Imitrex and 3 excedrin usually helped. In the past 2 years my vision has worsened- I have gone from 20/20 to 20/50 and 20/60- with Left eye being worse. The eye doctor does not see anything in particular in the eye exam and attributes it to my age (again Im only 28??).
1051752 tn?1253833456 Advil is not migraine medication and can cause problems by making headaches worse. Imitrex is migraine medication that is specifically for migraine and it will stop a migraine. Most migraines do not come with aura. Take that into consideration when you get a headache that feels exactly like your regular migraine just without an aura. That means you are having a migraine. You don't need an aura to have a migraine. Take your migraine medication for a migraine.
Avatar f tn I always get migraines with my period and at least another 2-3 a month from various causes. Imitrex 100mg is the only thing that helps me but i dont want to take it because i am 7 weeks and dont see my dr until week 10. I'm on day 2 of a migraine now. Im drinking lots of water, took tylenol, keep putting cold packs on my head and neck, but nothing is helping. Im going crazy. Anyone have the same issue or any suggestions? Help!
Avatar f tn The first step is to identify the triggers which can be shellfish, nuts, chocolates, caffeine, alcohol and artificial sweeteners. You can use a headache diary to identify the trigger for ovular migraines in your case. Pharmacological treatment includes analgesics, Imitrex and cafergot to abort acute attacks. Biofeedback therapy is also known to help. I would suggest you to discuss the treatment options with your ophthalmologist.
221913 tn?1372276661 caffeine will keep u going, slow down a tiny bit
2069693 tn?1331365365 i've suffered from migraines and headaches for awhile and had a similar situation once when i couldn't get rid of it for four days... They tried every migraine med, pain med, they could think of and then realized i was having a bad tension headache and all of the migraine meds were actually making it worse, something about making the muscles more ridged.
