Common Questions and Answers about Imiquimod skin cancer

Avatar m tn html?WT.ec_id=NCOMMS-20130305 Aldara is a cream used for topical treatment of non-melanoma skin cancer, and is thought to act through stimulation of anti-tumour immunity. The active ingredient, imiquimod, has been shown to stimulate toll-like receptor 7. Aldara also induces psoriasis-like lesions when applied to naive murine skin, and as such is used as a mouse model for psoriasis. Here we find that in naive murine skin, Aldara induces inflammation largely independently of toll-like receptor 7.
Avatar m tn He's had some skin condition that his vet thinks is cancer, and said the main treatment was surgery, but due to his age (and, unfortunately, the expense involved--last year alone, she's spent over $2000 on vet bills), that's not a viable option for her. She did use a cream on him that appeared to temporarily work-- imiquimod cream 5% - drug name Aldara. It has 12 single application doses (each the size of a postage stamp).
Avatar n tn Patients diagnosed with squamous cell skin cancer, and treated on time, have excellent prognosis. Surgical excision is a treatment option with the highest cure rate. Other therapeutic options, depending on clinical features of a lesion, can be topical chemotherapy (e.g., 5-fluorouracil, imiquimod), cryosurgery, and photodynamic therapy. Squamous cell carcinoma in the skin has overall metastatic rate of 3-4%.
1094370 tn?1317138425 I'm worried about that because the cancer is more towards the tip of my nose... Anyhow, I'm looking to see if anyone has had success curing their skin cancer on their face using this cream..? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I have basal cell skin cancer and I heard that skin care products containing imiquimod, and 5-flourouracil were helpful. Since my doctor requires more money than i have up front I cant get this removed from my face till I raise more money for the John surgery. I was wondering if a treatment was available and if so what is this product called? By the way im disappointed to have to wait because I have CIGNA insurance.
Avatar m tn And i think a new one is also forming. I am scared it could be cancer or turn into cancer. If they are just warts and were raised, i would get them treated but they look like they are in the skin, rather on the skin or under the skin. I am doing ozone treatments to boost my immune system so I can get rid of this virus but wondering if these black spots on the glans will go away, or grow bigger. It has caused me great deal of stress.
Avatar n tn I have basal cell skin cancer, and I heard that skin creams containing imiquimod and 5-fluorouracil could help. Is this true, and what creams contain these ingredients?
Avatar f tn I'm not an expert, but from what I understand it is used to treat other things then just warts and has been used to treat areas of concern regarding skin cancer- as far as skin tags in the genital area- I believe they just remove them more then give you medication for them. I'd head to your local pharmacy and just ask them if they know of this medication being used for skin tags- your pharmacists are usually the biggest help when it comes to uses and interactions of prescriptions.
Avatar n tn Its use is approved for basal cell skin cancer and actinic keratosis, a precursor condition of squamous cell carcinoma of the skin. At present, the best evidence for the use of imiquimod for melanoma or lentigo maligna are only case reports. While the results of these studies are promising, only a few patients have been studied and the quality of evidence is weak. Common side effects to Aldara involve skin reactions in the area where it was applied.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Aldara (imiquimod) to get rid of a few perianal HPV warts since cryotherapy was only making it worse. After only about 2 weeks of usage almost all symptoms of the warts were gone however I now have perianal psoriasis in its place. That is one of the side-effects of imiquimod and it mainly strikes people whom are genetically prone to having psoriasis.
5633011 tn?1371337268 Recently started iquimobid 5 ream for vulvar cancer (squamous cell vulvar carcinoma), waiting to find out results of recent pap, and appointments with gun to discuss further treatment options. Is it normal that every joint in my body hurts, and I am experiencing pain all over? And how do I find someone to talk to, because my husband says I am just complaining?
Avatar n tn This is usually a precancerous condition, which can develop into skin cancer. The lesions can increase in size and spread to surrounding tissues. From the description of the condition of your daughter, it seems she might have been diagnosed with scabies, which is a common childhood skin infection that causes small itchy bumps and blisters on the skin. The causative organism is a mite, which burrows into the skin.
Avatar f tn If they are TRUE seb keratosis they do not turn into cancer.
Avatar m tn They are spread through direct skin-to-skin contact during oral, genital, or anal sex with an infected partner. For small warts that affect only the skin around the anus, several medications(like podophyllum resin, Podofilox (Condylox), Trichloroacetic and bichloroacetic acids, Imiquimod 5% cream and interferons) are available, which can be applied directly to the surface of the warts. It seems that you had small warts only.So need not worry about them. Hope it helps.
Avatar f tn I visited my doctor in early May and she diagnosed me with genital warts and prescribed Imiquimod. I applied the Imiquimod as instructed and within two weeks of the application, the bumps were gone. It's been about a month now and I haven't noticed any new bumps. After doing a lot of reading on this forum and elsewhere, I'm surprised at how quickly my warts disappeared - is that usual? Could it have been something else?
Avatar n tn They are cauliflower-like protuberances and are usually symptomless. They are spread through direct skin-to-skin contact during oral, genital, or anal sex with an infected partner. Avatar m tn 2, Is it useful for me to use Imiquimod with no genital warts? Or does Imiquimod useful to help me clear the hpv virus in three months? 3, I also have an ulcers on my penis a week ago which can be seen when it's wet (it become white), and it disappear after 5 days. I kind of thought it's because of the allergy of Imiquimod. But does herpes appear 3 months after the sex? 4, Cause I have hpvs, and I have to share bath room with my parents which makes me very scared cause I hope them ok.
Avatar m tn I have read a couple places that my immunity could be low and that is causing the cell to replicate because nothing can stop it. Also, I don't think that flat warts can cause cancer but I am just making sure that you have to have type 18 or 16 to get cervical cancer down the road? The HPV type that causes flat warts is just a virus that is benign right? And one last thing, I am a swimmer... is this at all effecting the spread of these guys?
Avatar m tn is liver skin the best way for imiquimod to reach inside liver or maybe genital mucosas+liver skin surface may allow higher absorption?
Avatar n tn As well as I do not wish to develop cancer. My research so far points to success with a drug called imiquimod, if the virus has not achieve complete viral integration.
Avatar m tn My dermatologist suggested it to determine if my mole was just an irritation or a skin cancer. After reading the package insert and doing some research online I was to scared to try it. If it is recommended to me again I am wondering if I should use it. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I have been to the doctor and dermatologist once, they both said that they werent cancer, and I made the doctor take a biopsy of one that came back negative so I am not to concerned that it is cancerous. However, they are UGLY and I am planning on getting married in Aug, does anyone have any suggestions on getting rid of these things? They are so flipping ugly and in a very noticable spot.. gross.... They are just scars, but I dont even understand why I have them... WEIRD..
Avatar n tn I initially saw a doctor at a walk-in-clinic who was quick to diagnose it as an HPV wart and prescribe me Vyloma (Imiquimod) cream to apply it until it goes away. I was extremely concerned so I made an appointment at a local sexual health clinic for that same day, and the doctor there told me it was indeed a wart but most likely not HPV. My question is this: - Should I use the Imiquimod regardless? Can it help even if it is not an HPV wart?
Avatar n tn Some studies have associated this condition with proneness to skin cancer. You should have your symptoms checked out by a dermatologist to check for this. Good luck.
Avatar n tn It doesn't hurt and you really can't see it unless you feel the skin there and its very noticeable to touch for sure. It is under my penis shaft skin not on the surface. Located on the underside of the penis about 1 inch up from the base before the circumsized area. The skin on top of where this thing is hidden appears now to be normal. Dr., I know it sounds crazy but it worries me..I been doing internet research and all it leads me to in penile cancer and all that stuff.
Avatar m tn Multiple raised lesions can also be Bowenoid papulosis, which a HPV related localized cancer like condition. Biopsy can diagnose this. Imiquimod is an immune modulator and can treat many skin conditions including warts. There is no harm in applying this on the lesions. If there is no response then you can follow up with the doctor regarding biopsy. I sincerely hope you will find this information useful. Good Luck and take care!
Avatar f tn I have a feeling it may be related to cancer -- or a sign my immune system is not strong as I previously had did another friend who had the same sort of growth on her scalp. Anyone else with these growths also have or had cancer?
Avatar m tn Herpes simplex is most easily transmitted by direct contact with a lesion or the body fluid of an infected individual. Transmission may also occur through skin-to-skin contact during periods of asymptomatic shedding. Since both genital warts and herpes are viral diseases, so the doctor has prescribed you the antiviral drugs. Risk of transmission of herpes to the partner is there even if there are no active lesions. I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep us posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn I was also told at the std clinic that anal cancer pertains more to HIV patients and that the virus that causes visible warts isn't cancerous, just to basically go back in for a check up if i feel any new growths. Since we've had no skin to skin genital contact are the clothed activities zero risk because to my knowledge the virus needs to be massaged into the skin and the large layers of clothes would prevent this? if this is not the case then i intend to cease this activity.
