Common Questions and Answers about Imiquimod ointment

aldara

Avatar m tn Hi guys, I've been using imiquimod to treat my genital warts for a little over a month now (applying it every other day), and I'm starting to get some lesions on the shaft of my penis. Most noticeably right under the head. It's very red and sometimes looks like an open sore if it's been chafed a bit, and sometimes looks like it's kind of scabbing over. Is this a cause for alarm? Should I put my imiquimod treatment on hold for a little while to let the lesions heal?
Avatar f tn Blood tests and ANA titres need to be done and the treatment consists of sun protection, topical and oral steroids, Corticosteroid injections, calcineurin inhibitors, pimecrolimus cream or tacrolimus ointment and imiquimod cream, antimalarial tablets(have anti-inflammatory properties and is helpful) and laser therapy in resistant cases. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn I paid him a visit this past Thursday and he froze the warts and applied something for the pain then prescribed an ointment to be applied locally by myself during the next couple of days. I have a standing appointment now for this Monday However, besides treating the symptoms is there something I should additionally be prescribed by him? Wont these condylomas just come back after time (as I've read is likely to occur)?
Avatar n tn Other therapy with topical calcipotriene, tacrolimus 0.1% ointment (under occlusion) and imiquimod 5% cream may also be useful. PUVA and photodynamic therapy is also found to be useful. You can consult any good dermatologist in your area or in the metro cities and discuss these treatment options with him. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn Well, these didn't. They are white bumps on my bikini area. My doctor prescribed Imiquimod, but it doesn't seem to be working. Is there anything else i can try to get rid of these?
Avatar m tn They all prescribed the Vergen topical ointment for treatment. I noticed in the last 5 days that more warts have appeared in my inner labia area. Is this normal although I've been applying the Vergen 3 times a day as prescibed?

Avatar f tn Hello, Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but it can be contact dermatitis, rash due to friction rub, folliculitis, cysts ,molluscum contagiosum(multiple, small, dome-shaped papules, often with a central depression or plug) or genital warts(caused by HPV infection). Apply warm compresses, Neosporin ointment and calamine lotion and avoid messing with it.You can take anti-inflammatory pain killers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

Avatar f tn But this hasn't been of any use and it doesn't make sense to spend 600 bucks on a 20g ointment which does not show promising results. I've heard of this thing called "silicone sheet". Will it be helpful to give it a try? Do you have any other suggestions?? 2)My brother has multiple hypertropic scars on his shoulders. The doc has told him to take Isotretinoin capsules twice a day and apply Contractubex along with that.

Avatar m tn Topical antiseptic treatment and topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment is very useful. If the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed. I suggest you to consult a dermatologist in that case. Also then get other possibilities ruled out. Avatar m tn I recommend driving different combinations until you find something that works. Imiquimod (Aldara) is a topical immune response cream, applied to the affected area. It causes less local irritation than podofilox but may cause fungal infections (11% in package insert) and flu-like symptoms (less than 5% disclosed in package insert).
Avatar n tn My co-pay for this medication is $350 and if your insurance doesn't cover it would be $1000, but this medication caused lots dark red scarring, they didn't fade until 2 years and warts came back again! A shot on the wart called blemycin (left a huge scar but still came back more warts), imiquimod (very effective, but trigger bad allergic reaction) however, flat warts still came back after few months. Tretinoin made my skin red, dry and peel like crazy, but wart still won't go away.
Avatar f tn The good news is that he prescribed two meds for me, one for body (Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment--0.1%) and one for face (Desonide Cream--0.05%). OH wait--the desonide may be for the splits on the edges of my mouth--(a yeast infection)-I've got to check--anyway, My spots are almost gone, and I've been using the meds for only two days. Definitely much faster acting than the hydrocortizone, which did seem to help, anyway. I would say it was worth it to go to the doc and get these.
