Common Questions and Answers about Ideal weight elderly

weight

Avatar m tn You make a good point that "ideal body weight" measurements do not do a great job of taking age and body type into account. But at the same time, there are general weight ranges that are appropriate for any given height. You don't mention how tall you are or your fitness level in your post - someone who exercises frequently and/or lifts weights might have a higher body mass index but still be in great shape.
Avatar f tn Hard-boiled eggs, with salt and pepper are also ideal. You can bring them in an insulated container. They keep best underwater in a little refrigerator. In addition properly prepared scrambled eggs with different toppings. Maple syrup, blueberry syrup. Strawberry syrup. Peach juice (from canned peaches). But never honey.
Avatar n tn I would say that it is a 50/50 chance whether you would lose weight in the long run as the product wasn't designed as a weight loss product. (but I'm not a doctor so your dr. might be able to tell you what to expect).
649848 tn?1534637300 in fact, I was usually under or right at my ideal weight, right up till early 2007, when I began gaining like there was no tomorrow. I talked to my doctor and his answer was "eat less, move more"...........in a matter of 3 months, I had gained 30 pounds without eating more or moving less than I had been. I began truly eating less and moving more in an effort to lose (after all, that's what my doctor told me to do) - to no avail.......
Avatar n tn and further more the very next morning i swear....i have gained more weight! i am literally gaining weight EVERY DAY.
Avatar n tn Can anyone give me an idea of how long it usually takes for your metabolism to recalibrate after stopping Effexor and/or Lexapro? I've gained significant weight while on these drugs (despite an intense exercise program and careful diet). My nutritionist and MD told me that the drugs likely altered my metabolism, but no one can tell me how long it will take to correct that. Most frustrating, I've noticed that since I stopped taking both, my weight gain has accelerated.
612876 tn?1355518095 My elderly pooch recently began displaying some odd behavioral changes, which I may have had a hair-trigger response for because I am a behaviorist by profession (human, not animal) and because I have a rare disease and My dog was having behavior changes and after running tests, it turns out he has hypothyroidism (as well as a UTI, but that should be cleared up pretty soon). My question is whether I should be more concerned about his diet now.
Avatar n tn And if they are not able to find the cause, a specialist such as a gastroenterologist would be ideal. I'm glad you have gained some of your weight back but see you have a ways to go. Do you actually still get the stomach pain and nausea after eating or are you not sure because you limit what you eat to avoid that? Do you keep a food diary where you record what you eat and when?
Avatar f tn His shrink told him he would not take him off the Risperdol. I know Risperdol does cause weight gain. I know all the warnings of this drug for the elderly, those with diabetes, and heart disease. This just seems too risky for him. But the psychiarist says this he is staying on Risperdol. There was only one week in which he sounded really good. Now, he is back to having difficulty breathing. Last week he gained 5-7 lbs of fluid in one night.
Avatar f tn Women, the Elderly and the Obese have higher Erythrocyte Sedimentation values. If you are a woman over 50 or 20% over your ideal weight then your rate would fall in the upper limit of the normal range. The disadvantage of these tests is that there are far too many factors that may affect the result and not conclusive enough for screening purposes. A positive ANA test result may suggest an autoimmune disease, but this is far from leading to a diagnosis.
Avatar f tn but I did work in a long term care facility for many years and watched the changes both good and bad from the use of many of these drugs especially how they affected the elderly, I also went thr a very similiarexperience with my own dad back in the 90's...Haldol was administered to calm him and it did just the opposite. Haldol in my own opinion sure can give all the symtoms you have listed especially for the elderly....for them the side effects seem to be compounded.
685623 tn?1283485207 Halloween is a big day for pets to escape and run off. Even fenced in yards are not ideal for this scary night. Consider letting your pet stay inside in a special quiet place, with his own treats. He will be safe and secure from the goblins there! Even those decorations we spend so much time on can be a problem for pets. The fake spider webs and string like material are very tempting for our feline friends.
Avatar n tn I returned home to an economically deprived area out of avoidance of the real world and a need to look out for my elderly parents. Soon after 9/11/01, I was downsized from my last programming assignment. My mom became sick soon after and despite sending out a ton of resumes, I was not able to land a job. finally I decided to go to grad school. I took some work temporarily as a custodian(a little over a month)but then my mother died.
Avatar f tn If your doctor originally planned on treating you for 24 weeks but one of the options he discusses with you is to extend to 48 weeks you may have a chance but the odds are still lower because you are a slow responder. However, you must be on full dose interferon and weight based ribavirin. IMO, I would weigh the options very carefully. If the ANC is low, at or below 500 you're going to need Neupogen to continue.
649848 tn?1534637300 I truly hope that in this community i will finally get the much need help to reach my ideal weight.
Avatar n tn Although trochanteric bursitis usually affects middle-aged or elderly persons, women more often than men, it can develop in younger people also. As in other forms of bursitis, there is swelling in the bursa causing pain and inflammation.
8902399 tn?1400775642 I take care of my elderly mother which forbids me of having a social life. I am unemployed and the only place I have to meet new people is the internet. I had a 7 months relationship with a guy and fell deeply in love. He dumped me 1 year ago and I think it is time to try again. I fear having the same problems. Should I give internet on more try?
667078 tn?1316004535 I was so sick late last night I wanted to go to the ER, but what could they really do? I am dropping weight and there is no medical explanation. I really think I have reached my max of medications. I have so many drug sheets from the pharmacy I just have gotten overwhelmed them. Then I have sample and over the counter drugs and the inserts with writing so small I can no longer read it. None of them go over the interactions of every drug I am on.
Avatar n tn Grave’s is a systemic disease which can affect many organs besides the thyroid. I didn't have that many symptoms either, the obvious weight loss and high energy. However, If your tests show that you are hyperthyroid, you are sick! whether you feel it or not. The cumulative effects of the excess thyroid hormone may not show up at first, so you might not feel sick. But over time muscle loss and other problems grow. You do not want to wait until you do feel sick to get treatment.
Avatar m tn Hi, Weight loss to your ideal weight, or as close to it as possible, can help you get healthy and stay that way. Given your excess weight and sedentary lifestyle, it is possible that you can develop other obesity-induced disorders, such as diabetes and hypertension, if you do not lose some weight and modify your lifestyle. It is obvious that weight loss will bring about a significant difference to your current problem, given its physiological and psychological impacts.
Avatar f tn but a boyfriend on a couch would not be ideal. I'd personally try to get to the bottom of it as it will cut down on intimacy if he continues this. And if he continues it, it may not be the man for you. My friend has slept separate from her husband for a couple of years and she says it is like they are roommates now rather than lovers. So . . . starting this way is less than ideal.
Avatar n tn For headache try: Combination meds used for migraine or cluster headache; regular times for sleeping/eating; relaxation techniques; exercise; hydration; acetamiophen or NSAID For Arthralgia or myalgia try: NSAID; low to no-impact exercise; muscle relaxants; massage therapy; warm bath/shower; moist heat treatments For fever try: Acetaminophen or NSAID; hydration; extremity wraps; electric blanket; or hot water bottle for chills For fatigue try: PM admin of PEG; exercise; fluids; modafinil For
306867 tn?1299253309 I look at Medicare, our elderly are losing doctors who will accept them because they have Medicare, and Medicare isn't paying or paying very little...a failed program ran by our government. One of my doctors had to actually close his practice because he only saw the elderly and Medicare just wasn't paying.
637356 tn?1301928422 Motivation is probably the single most important factor when it comes to losing weight; we all have those things that trigger our decision to lose weight; brice, in your case, it was your health and the desire to be around to see your kids raised. You have the means and the support to help you carry through, that's totally awesome and I congratulate you wholeheartedly.
Avatar m tn Bottom line IMO is that having little or no anemia should at least signal a discussion with your doc about increasing your riba dose, regardless if it's weight based. Espeically if your viral decline isn't what it should be. Also note Procrit's role in keeping people on tx with their anemia. Thanks to "CoWriter" for bringing this particular presentation to my attention. ------------------ Oral Presentations http://www.kenes.com/easl2009/Orals/276.
Avatar m tn This is the thing that I haven't done so far, from 107kg I have gone down to 105kg but my ideal weight is 73kg. Nickles66 - I had to stop the Melatonin experiment after about a week as my depression got worse, I had to taper off from Seroxat (Paxil) in order to take the Melatonin but my anger/frustration/anxiety etc came back with a vengence and so I was reluctant to take both Paxil an SSRI and Melatonin, it may just be okay but don't want to risk it.
637356 tn?1301928422 My cat has lost some weight too but she used to be a little overweight so she's actually at her ideal weight now. I think they just slow down, just like our elderly do, and don't eat as much. We can't decide for you when the best time to euthenize would be. I would think if he's still playing, eating (even if it's not as much) and wanting to be petted and purring, then I would assume he still wants to live and is enjoying life. Talk with your vet and see what he says.
Avatar f tn Although the prevalence of the syndrome appears to be highest among the elderly, especially elderly women, it is impossible to rely upon prevalence estimates to predict, at the inception of antipsychotic treatment, which patients are likely to develop the syndrome. Whether antipsychotic drug products differ in their potential to cause tardive dyskinesia is unknown.
649848 tn?1534637300 additionally, I am required to wear a specified uniform, which is not comfortable/conducive for most types of exercise. I think most of you are very much aware of my thyroid issues, which makes losing weight extremely difficult under the best of conditions. I do eat very reasonable meals, etc and still have been unable to budge an ounce; or if I do manage to get off a pound or two, it comes right back on within a day or two..
Avatar f tn After a poor diet, hypothyroidism is the second most common reason for high cholesterol. Symptoms of hypothyroidism include fatigue, weight gain, hair loss to name a few reasons. A highly misdiagnosed condition unfortunately. Also, saturated fats raise the large subtype of LDL - this is a good thing. Having triglycerides of over 140 guarantees a large number of small LDL particle size so i read. I love my cheese.
