Ibuprofen is bad for our livers. Try getting a massage if you can. Bromelian, a natural supplement made from pineapples helps reduce swelling but it takes time to work. Also, make sure you're drinking lots of water, and getting some exercise. Try some yoga too. Pot brownies worked the best for my back pain.

Ibuprofen is actually better for toothache pain. My dentist recommends 600 mgs (3 of the 200 mg tablets) every 6 hrs. The liquid gels work more quickly so they're worth the extra couple bucks to me. Hopefully that will help get him through the weekend until he can see a dentist. Toothaches are awful; I hope he feels better soon!

In general, ibuprofen and acetaminophen are two most common active ingredients in most readily available over-the-counter pain relievers. Neither of them is completely safe. From what I learned, if you have little or no liver damage, you can use either ibuprofen or acetaminophen. But if your liver damage is more advanced, acetaminophen is safer AS LONG AS YOU DON'T OVERDOSE IT OR MIX IT WITH ALCOHOL.

Karen, Your platelets are already low, and NSAIDs can increase the risk for bleeding; imho, acetaminophen over the ibuprofen, hands down. With low platelets from tx and a compromised liver and kidney system, any of the NSAIDs are contra-indicated for you (includes Motrin, Advil, Aleve). Tylenol is not to be taken indiscriminately either, though. With cirrhosis, no more than 2000 mg per day max (that means no more than 4 Extra Strength Tylenol in any 24 hour period).

Killer headaches, and never any Tylenol around. Ibuprofen can't be that bad huh? Got to go to work and this headache must go.

ok I just read online that you are not suppose to take ibuprofen while you are pregnant again im 5 weeks i took total of seven not all together of course over say a period of maybe two days due to a severe toothache did i do something stupid is my baby going to be ok.

over the years, I’ve found that most knowledgeable hepatologist/GI doctors will recommend Tylenol (acetaminophen) over other NSAID’s for minor pain relief. While acetaminophen is certainly hepatotoxic at large does, there is no evidence that it accumulates in the body; taken at recommended doses, it’s generally thought not only to be safe but preferable to NSAIDS.

Yep, good point Hawk I think a "little" acetaminophen is prob better - certainly for pain relief. Given that neither is very good for one's liver, I wonder how the Tylenol made it to the Tell Them to Take Tylenol list?

I actually have 3 friends who can't take Vicodin ES because it makes them sick. Nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, etc. So I'd agree - the medication probably doesn't agree with you. Might be a good idea to call your dentist's office and let them know what's happening. Maybe he / she can prescribe something else that will be easier on your belly. Vicoprofen, for example, has hydrocodone with ibuprofen instead of the acetaminophen.

I think I'd heed the warning if my child has asthma, however, I've used Tylenol as my go to fever reducer with my boys. I've never been able to get my boys to take ibuprofen. I tried the oral suspension as well as the chew tabs and neither of my children would take them as they taste horrible. Oh, I tried hiding the flavor but it didn't work verses Tylenol chewables, they just chew up and swallow, no problem. When they are sick . . . which one do you think I prefer?

Tylenol is unveiling new maximum dosage instructions for paracetamol or acetaminophen in the US. The new instructions state a maximum total daily of 3,000 mg versus the old maximum of 4,000 mg. Additionally, it states to take the over the counter dosage every 6 hours instead of every 4 to 6 hours. These new instructions seem to be specific to their over the counter products not prescription medications.

I always used ibuprofen prior to getting pregnant because Tylenol wasn't strong enough. However 2 rounds of 1000mg seems to get the job done. Haven't taken me than that in a day.
