Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen overdose damage

ibuprofen

Avatar m tn According to research institutes, Ibuprofen overdose damages your internal organs like liver. While in some cases it has been reported that it has result in a permanent liver damage, in other cases where the victim was taking the dose for a long and continued period it has resulted in organ failure one by one.
Avatar m tn Can someone give me either the symptoms or the timeline for an Ibuprofen overdose? And what's going to happen if I don't get treatment? I've taken approx. 40 200mg ibuprofen tablets, 32 hours ago.
Avatar n tn You should be just fine unless you have an allergy to ibuprofen. Prescription Motrin is 800mg of Ibuprofen so that is the equivalent of four of the 200mg Ibuprofen. If you don't break out in a rash or have breathing difficulties after taking one or two Ibuprofen, please don't lose sleep over taking a third. As I said, as long as you can take Ibuprofen in the first place without having a problem, three won't bother you.
Avatar n tn I overdosed two days ago on ibuprofen and still feel off. Should I seek treatment? Would it still help? Would I be a suicide risk?
Avatar f tn Ever since i came back home my body has been acting funny and i am having extreme pain (it feels like my right kidney but it seems a little low to be my kidney) and i was wondering if there could have been some internal damage that would not have shown up right after the overdose but a little bit after? Should I be concerned or is this just my body trying to fix it's self?
Avatar m tn This past 2 weeks I was ill with the h1n1 virus. During the 2 weeks, I consumed over 50 200mg pills of ibuprofen. I have had blood work done twice (5 days ago and 2 days ago). Both resulted in increased liver enzymes. I haven't had any ibuprofen in 4 days. Is it possible that my liver enzyme increase is a result of the "overdose" with the ibuprofen. My doctor has scheduled another blood work screening in two weeks. Will my liver enzymes decrease in this amount of time?
Avatar f tn Nobody knows. I had an ibuprofen overdose, but it was over a long period of time, and it affected my intestines, mostly my colon, causing colitis. I had frank blood suddenly one day, without any stool at all, and the abdomonal pain was horrible. I had a colonostopy, and was on medication for 2 months to try to heal my colon, it affected 3 ft, and it was almost gangrene. By the time I went to the emergency room, I hadn't eaten in 2 days, and yet the stupid, and I mean STUPID emergency Dr.
Avatar m tn Researches have reported that the threshold for liver damage to start from a single paracetamol overdose is 15 gms (30 tablets). However liver damage could start to occur at a single overdose of 24 standard tablets or 150 mg/kg body weight, (whichever is the smaller). The overdose border or threshold may be lowered in a person on prescription medicines, or someone who is an alcoholic or is undernourished to some extent.
Avatar m tn Hi last monday I had a toothache and took quite a few painkillers (ibuprofen mainly) and ever since I have been pooping blood, and last night I had what seemed to be a panic attack (unable to speak, rapid heartbeat, struggling to breathe) and now this afternoon my right eye bag has swollen and hurts every time I blink or close my eyes. Could all these thing be linked or are they separate matters? And should I consult medical advice or see if it all calms down?
Avatar f tn Is it safe to take 800mg ibuprofen & 650mg Percocet (each pill 325mg) together at once?
1305767 tn?1361192676 Is it safe to take ibuprofen in the same day as Meloxicam? I take 15 mg of the Meloxicam in the morning for pain but need additional pain relief later in the day and I know that both drugs are NSAID so I don't want to accidentally overdose.
3122657 tn?1357432602 Hi all so far 3 months into treatment i was pretty much sailing through it but not by body is hurting my back my legs just everything i ran out of Acetaminophen and want to know if anyone here knows if i can take Ibuprofen for the aches i am undetectable at week 4 no liver damage if someone could help me out with this Thanks Much love Karen
Avatar n tn Neither of them is completely safe. From what I learned, if you have little or no liver damage, you can use either ibuprofen or acetaminophen. But if your liver damage is more advanced, acetaminophen is safer AS LONG AS YOU DON'T OVERDOSE IT OR MIX IT WITH ALCOHOL. Be careful that acetaminophen is in a lot of other medications and if you take those PLUS your own acetaminophen, you might be overdosing it.
Avatar m tn You have probably compromised your body's ability to produce platelets. The little red dots are called Petechiae, and they're a sign that you're dangerously low on thrombocytes. Ibuprofen and all the other NSAIDs can do that if taken regularly. Your condition is called Thrombocytopenia and it's an emergency.
Avatar f tn Taking more than the recommended dose (overdose) of acetaminophen may cause liver damage. In small doses (less than 4 grams per day, or eight pills taken over a twenty-four hour period of time) acetaminophen is quite safe for the liver—unless combined with alcoholic beverages. Acetaminophen is the recommended medication for relieving minor aches, pains, and headaches in people with liver disease.
Avatar f tn Nurofen contains ibuprofen, and the 'plus' is codeine. Codeine is converted to morphine in the liver (to varying degrees in different cultural populations), so from a practical standpoint there is no difference between an addiction to nurophen vs any other opiate, such as oxycodone or heroin.
Avatar f tn is it safe to take ibuprofen when pregnant? Just once? Ran out of tylenol.
Avatar n tn my brother suffered some brain damage after a coma from methodone overdose. during his hospital stay a social worker was trying to find a rehab center or nursing home to take him, none of them would bcuz his social security check was too low and his tenncare would not pay. when he left hospital he was walking with assistance, using the bathroom and remembered some things like who we wer ect. now that he is home his behavior is bizzare and paronoid, he keeps falling and defacating everywhere.
Avatar m tn His doctor was horrified yesterday (day after shot) and had him take Benadryl, Ibuprofen and apply lots of ice. Today he received an IV antiobiotic and will get more tomorrow and find out what it is. The say he may have cellulitis. We both believe that his reaction is due to getting a 2nd dose so soon after the first and we hope that he does not have any lasting issues such as an impaired elbow joint, from this.
Avatar f tn Hello KCB7, The recommendation on the Tylenol bottle for a maximum dose of 4000 mg daily is a precaution taken to avoid potential liver toxicity & damage. This does not mean that individuals who take more than 4000 mg will experience liver damage & liver failure, it simply means that the risk of liver damage increases.
Avatar f tn The problem with ibuprofen or tylenol is that you can cause liver damage that doesn't manifest immediately. An amount like 10,000 is too much for the liver to absorb at one time, and there can be considerable damage that you don't realize at this time. I think you should go to a physician, relate what you have told us, and get appropriate testing. Also, maybe some therapy.....that's helpful usuallly to everyone. Keep me posted. Good luck and God bless.
Avatar n tn I read on a website that when Adderall XR is crushed up it can cause damage to your circulatory system. Is this true? and what could the chest pain be? Am I in any danger?
Avatar n tn Acetaminophen is metabolized by the liver. Doses of acetaminophen greater than the recommended doses are toxic to the liver and may result in severe liver damage. In other words, perhaps the 'hollow headedness' is due to liver reaction from large dose of acetaminophen. Best wishes!
Avatar f tn The Advil had 200 mg of ibuprofen. Later on I got cramps so at around four I took two midol extra strength. Each pill had 500 mg of acetominophen. Then I began getting a massive headache so at 6:45 I took one Tylenol extra strength tablet which also had 500 mg of acetominophen. Now I am worried because I took a little bit too much acetominophen And didn't wait long enough. Also I don't know if the combination of the 200 mg of ibuprofen and the beer could be bad as well?
Avatar m tn Hello, You need immediate hospital admission. Ibuprofen overdose has effected the GI system causing recurrent vomitings and caused renal ( kidney) impairment thus causing no urination. You need immediate medical intervention urgently. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
