Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen kidney disorders

ibuprofen

Avatar m tn Can Kidney pain be a side effect of taking Ibuprofen? I was taking ibuprofen last week consecutively for 3 days (400mg t.i.d) after laser eye surgery. A day or so after starting it I experienced mild pain/discomfort in my left flank that came in waves. When I stopped taking the ibuprofen the flank pain also stopped. The next day I took one more dose - the flank pain started again within an hour, but was gone the next day.
1451427 tn?1303205628 The other causes could be gastritis, peptic ulcer disease and GERD. Disorders of the spleen and colon could also cause pain. Kidney disorders too produce colicky and sharp pain. Sometimes anxiety with flatulence can cause this pain. you will need to consult your primary care physician for proper evaluation of pain and therapy. In the meantime you can take OTC pain medication Ibuprofen. Ensure to take this medication after food to avoid gastritis.

Avatar n tn I've been on Fish, Flax & Borage Oil for years. 3000 mg,morning & three thousand at night. My daughers put me on them. A eye doctor and my kidney doctor. I haven't taken them in about 7 days due to a small procedure I'm having. A nurse once told me that when I'm going to have a minor procedue or maor, stop taking 7 days before because it makes your blood thin.
1386405 tn?1291587800 The biggest effect of Ibuprofen is in the last trimester. It affects the kidney/urine output of the fetus, which results in lower amniotic fluid levels. It can also thin your blood, which can increase the risk of heavy bleeding during delivery and after. Your OB will tell you the same thing. Everything will be ok, and now you know, and you won't take it again. Good luck with the pregnancy!
Avatar n tn urinary tract infection, bladder and kidney stones, interstitial cystitis, kidney disease, taking aspirin or other anti-coagulant medication, hematologic disorders that affect clotting, trauma affecting the genitourinary system, and cancer.
Avatar m tn I had leg pain first 24 hrs after first shot doc told me to take ibuprofen, I don't think you should take ibuprofen with kidney problems something you would need to talk to a doc or pharmacy about, any harsh side effects should be brought to your doctors attention as they know your whole situation and problems you have other than hep c.
1654058 tn?1407159066 Dr said I could take up to 1500 mg a day of either for fever n aches. I only have 1 kidney n somehow have it in my head not to use acetaminophen. I'm using children's Motrin. Any advice here? Karen :) thanks guys..
Avatar n tn I have been getting a severe pain in the my right lower stomach.I have had it three days now an it getting worse.Im not sure if its a kidney stone or if its from weights i've been lifting.:(.Or wat it is..
Avatar f tn My great uncle died of kidney complications, and I know where I have the pain is in the same area his pain was. I have so many problems already, I'm so fed up. Doctors don't listen to you once you've been given a "catch-all diagnosis". I'm very upset, and I just want to know if I should worry about this at this point, or what I should watch out for in the future.
Avatar f tn My brother told me that his doctor said his kidney was not functioning as well as it should for someone his age. He also has a touch of scoliosis. Some of his organs are compresses because of the curvature. The doctor wants to do some test. What does this Mean? Is there something that can be done? I am really concerned. Thank you all.
Avatar m tn I have been taking maximum daily dosage of generic ibuprofen (3200 mg a day, usually 1600mg at a time). I also take 600mg etodolac, 400 in the am and 200 in the pm. I have been having kidney pain on both sides, and excessive sweating. Could this be from taking too much NSAID medication?
Avatar f tn ve heard a couple of doctors (not diabetes specialists) say that diabetics should never take ibuprofen because of potential damage to the kidneys, which, coupled with the potential damage from the diabetes itself, could significantly increase the possibility of kidney failure. I would be very interested to hear what diabetes specialists have to say on this because prior to this many doctors (fully aware of the type 1 diabetes) recommended daily ibuprofen for various problems such as back pain.
963889 tn?1359677334 My girlfriend had an open biopsy on her kidneys and it showed ibuprofen caused the damage. Her doctor in Florida did some research on Ibuprofen and then did a report for the AMA. Ibruprofen (advil and etc) is the number one cause of kidney failure of over the counter products in the Nation.
Avatar n tn Surely not related to type 2 diabetes.
Business man2 I try to have my patients take very little daily ibuprofen/naproxen as they can lead to kidney disease (based on total lifetime dose), high blood pressure (meloxicam) and stomach ulcers. Also, the anti-platelet effect of aspirin (which is how it prevents heart attacks) is reduced when taken with daily ibuprofen/naproxen. I hope this helps!
Avatar n tn I have had dx of 3 autoimmune disorders, RA in 2007 treated with Remicaid. Treatment stopped per Mayo Clinic in 2009 with dx for CIDP. Treatment using IVIG started 10/09 continues monthly, 50 mg x 3 days. Dx of Lupus subcutaneous 2011, blood test showed it was not systemic. Now RA out of remission & Rheumatologist ordered blood work to see if Lupus is systemic. I don't want to take steroids and am hesitant to chance RA treatments.
1326572 tn?1275500911 My liver and blood count look great but my doc said my kidney function is slightly off. The creatinine is high at 1.09 and the GFR is low at 54. I was occasionally taking ibuprofen but have stopped completely now. I'm also on mtx, folic acid, norco for pain and also xanax. The doc said she wasn't too worried but she wants to watch it. I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same sort of thing.

535822 tn?1443976780 First of all I have kidney stones ever present inside my kidney. They don't usually cause problems. About 3-4 weeks ago, I started having symptoms resembling a stomach bug (diarrhea) and fatigue for a couple of days, then started having flank pain. Went to urgen care and they gave me 3 days worth of cipro. She said I had a "few" white blood cells in my urine, but that was all. She also ordered a CT scan.
Avatar f tn When you arrive on the web page, look to your left, and there are blue bars, and one says Kidney Diseases. Click on the bar, and you will arrive at a web page with just information on kidney disorders and diseases. Return to the first web page and click on digestion, and you will see a link for digestion and there is a page for just digestive disorders and diseases. The national website is for both digestion and kidney information. Go to http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov. Good luck.
Avatar f tn state, I would not recommend taking more than the maximum recommended daily dose of ibuprofen. Also, if your kidney function is temporarily (or permanently) decreased due to your kidney stone(s), then any medication that you take can be more potent or toxic to you and the organs that metabolize the medication. It is possible that you could speak with your personal physician regarding a "better" strategy for managing your pain. ~•~ Dr.
