Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen in pregnancy

ibuprofen

1386405 tn?1291587800 The biggest effect of Ibuprofen is in the last trimester. It affects the kidney/urine output of the fetus, which results in lower amniotic fluid levels. It can also thin your blood, which can increase the risk of heavy bleeding during delivery and after. Your OB will tell you the same thing. Everything will be ok, and now you know, and you won't take it again. Good luck with the pregnancy!

Avatar f tn I don't know if I'm pregnant or not but If I am can Ibuprofen harm my child during early stages of pregnancy?
Avatar f tn I took 4 ibuprofen during pregnancy 3 hours apart.. I read online that ibuprofen is not allowed during pregnancy??? Does anyone know if it's ok or why it's not allowed my doctors office won't answer but I'm really scared now.
Avatar f tn Nope. Ibuprofen firstly won't help with a cold at all. It only relieves fever, pain, and swelling. Second, ibuprofen shouldn't be used in pregnancy and on the rare occasion that your Dr gives the okay, it is NEVER to be used in the 3rd trimester.
Avatar f tn Ibuprofen is not to be taken during pregnancy.. Ive gt migraines and now that in pregnant its so severe because I can't take ny usual medication so I take paracetamol low dose for the sake of the baby even tho it doesn't helo much.. try washing her hair with cold water n place cold olive oil in her hair she should feel better with that.. well it works for me..
Avatar f tn If taken in the last three months of pregnancy it can cause birth defects, and can increase the odds of miscarriage. Motrin is ibuprofen which is never meant to be taken during pregnancy. If you need anything for pain, use Tylenol. There may be no damage done, but do not use it anymore.
Avatar f tn Because it is asprin and asprin thins the blood and makes it harder for ur blood to clot! U could bleed out when in labor! Ibuprofen is on the can take side! I see a lot of post on here saying yes take tylenol ur doctors say its ok up to 1000mg. This is my 4th baby and every time my doctors have said no tylenol! Is my doctor wrong? Or is it a preference thing between doctors?
Avatar f tn Never ever ever take advil or ibuprofen during pregnancy. It's a blood thinner. Your md should have given you a safe med list. Tylenol.
Avatar f tn Ibuprofen (and all NSAIDs) are a big no go during pregnancy (with the occasional exception of aspirin for certain medical conditions, and only under direction of a physician).... Tylenol (acetaminophen) is really the only thing you can take.
Avatar f tn Xray of ankle is fine and most pain killers are safe in pregnancy including Tylenol 3 (codeine) and vicodien, percocet too. I have a fractured spine and pelvis and I am 29 weeks pregnant and take vicodein every day for pain. My dr is aware and both dr and OB are completely fine with it. They said it's better to control the pain that not bc your bodys reaction to pain can stress the baby.
Avatar m tn A day or so after starting it I experienced mild pain/discomfort in my left flank that came in waves. When I stopped taking the ibuprofen the flank pain also stopped. The next day I took one more dose - the flank pain started again within an hour, but was gone the next day. The same thing happened last year when I took ibuprofen for a sprain, but at the time I never associated it might be from the Ibuprofen. I don't have any health problems and don't have any other symptoms.
Avatar f tn I know you absolutely cannot have it in your third or first trimester. My dr put me on a low dose in my second trimester for my migraines. She said its only safe in your second and only with a drs. approval.
Avatar m tn According to research institutes, Ibuprofen overdose damages your internal organs like liver. While in some cases it has been reported that it has result in a permanent liver damage, in other cases where the victim was taking the dose for a long and continued period it has resulted in organ failure one by one.
3122657 tn?1357432602 Thank you i was told i could take Acetaminophen by my Doctor i just was not sure about Ibuprofen in that case i will not take it but since its sunday i cant call my doc well maybe i can but i dont like to bother them on a sunday i have a great doc and dont want to bug him for something so small Thanks
Avatar f tn If I understand your post and my math is correct you are taking 600 to 1,200mg at the most a day. This is with in the guidelines of the manufacturer. The concern would be in you were taking 1,200mg for months, 5-6 times a week. Occasionally it's ok. The best suggestion I can give you is to discuss this with your parents and PCP. If you have a need to consistently take IB that should also be addressed. Please talk to them. Take care and best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn My doc said no but I think one time is ok just tell your doc, Next time drink a butt load of water because most headaches are caused by dehydration, and I get horrid migraines so I take Tylenol drink water and if that doesn't work I put a wet wash cloth on my forehead and over my eyes turn my lights off and make sure it's pitch dark in my room and lay in complete silence for 45 min if not longer cuz I end up taking a nap but it works so good for me
Avatar f tn Well you learn something new every day...lol. I knew ibuprofen was off limits during pregnancy, but had no idea it was a problem ttc. Good info!!
Avatar f tn Okay so I had a baaad headache for 3 days. I rarely got headaches until the pregnancy. :/ why am I having headaches so much? What causes them????
Avatar f tn I had a really bad headache yesterday and took 6 200mg ibuprofen tablets ( 2 every 4 hours 3 times) and then I found out today your not suppose to take ibuprofen. I'm really worried, will everything be okay?
Avatar f tn Is it true you shouldn't take ibuprofen it can harm the baby? I just seen this today while doing research as to this is my first. i have been taking it before I found out I was thinking my period was coming and I've always had bad cramps so I know to start taking it before my period comes to help with the pain. Should I be worried that I've harmed the baby from taking it? I'm 5 weeks BTW.
