Avatar n tn ve been browsing internet sites to gather information and saw that there is a link between high potassium levels and thyroid problems. My initial thyroid blood tests came up normal, TSH 1.47, T4Free 0.95 and T3,Free 312. my thyroglobulin antibodies were slightly high, at 21 and thyroid peroxidase antibodies were less than 10. The next blood labs, done in the hospital, were TSH .69, free T$ 0.74 and "normal" thyroid gland antibodies.

1269044 tn?1393189903 So I've drinking tons of coconut water a day along with several bananas. This is definitely out of character for me. So I've figured these two things alone are equal to about 2800mg a day in potassium. Still on par closely to recommended amounts. So here's the BUT, apparently high doses can cause anxiety. I wonder if it has been Exaggerating my anxiety? I also thought this woul be good infofor others This could be a sure sign of my insanity!! Haha!
Avatar n tn Ok... let me explain the effects of low cortisol, normally. What is is simply is that your body cannot manage sodium. In most people, when sodium goes down, potassium rises - you get confusion, nausea, headaches, vomiting, low blood pressure, chills, sweats, fevers, and it all can lead to coma and death. Look up adrenal crisis for other symptoms. Now, in some people with adrenal issues, potassium does not rise.
Avatar n tn I was told that if I take potassium the cramps should lessen, but my hypothyroidism also caused me to develop high cholesterol. Is it bad to take a potassium pill of 99mg when you have high cholesterol? Mine is about 210.
Avatar f tn Having had an acute episode of renal failure in the past, I can say that if you're not eating the foods that are high in potassium and not supplementing potassium, then the potassium can actually go down like that in three months. I don't think you need to really panic. All you really need to do is go see your doctor who noted the high potassium and have that doctor retest your potassium.
Avatar f tn Ramipril can actually cause high potassium. If you already have high or borderline high potassium at baseline, then this is probably not the best choice of medication for you. There are blood pressure medications that can actually lower potassium, such as HCTZ, which is often a 1st line medication. Ask your doctor about this medicine.

Avatar m tn Can Kidney pain be a side effect of taking Ibuprofen? I was taking ibuprofen last week consecutively for 3 days (400mg t.i.d) after laser eye surgery. A day or so after starting it I experienced mild pain/discomfort in my left flank that came in waves. When I stopped taking the ibuprofen the flank pain also stopped. The next day I took one more dose - the flank pain started again within an hour, but was gone the next day.
1386405 tn?1291587800 ok I just read online that you are not suppose to take ibuprofen while you are pregnant again im 5 weeks i took total of seven not all together of course over say a period of maybe two days due to a severe toothache did i do something stupid is my baby going to be ok.
Avatar m tn Well it certainly appears that your diabetes and hbp are affecting your kidneys. Your GFR isnt horrible but you don't want it to continue dropping. Are you seeing a nephrologist? Make sure you see a kidney dr and that he knows all of the meds youre taking-even over the counter. Avoid any ibuprofen or any anti inflammatories as these are hard on the kidneys. You really need to make sure your diabetes and hbp are under control also. Your creatine is slightly high but not horrible.
1394098 tn?1385960134 I would think potassium might work. I haven't even started treatment yet and my leg muscles ache all the time and my test results came back and said my potassium was high! So I don't know...hang in there, do the best you can!
Avatar m tn Ibuprofen can be the cause of high ALT enzymes , have you tested for AP enzymes, iron in serum? Do you take herbal supplements ? What other tests have you done? ALT it self doesn't mean much, you need to do a full pannel of blood tests (test your pancreas, gabbler, diabetes, cholesterol......). 24 hours before the blood analyses you should do a low fat diet. About TSH , much be a mistake , 212 with few symptoms????, so you should test for free T3 and free T4.
Avatar m tn what are concidered high and dangereous potassium levels
Avatar f tn It is mostly an elimination diet of no high potassium fruits or vegatable. So you can rarely have bananas, oranges, tomatoes, potatoes, leafy greens, nuts, and squash. I didn't have to eliminate them totally, just reduce significantly. Tomatoes were the hardest one for me.You can have boiled potatoes but you need to soak them overnight and then pour the liquid off before cooking them. That removes a lot of the potassium. I also watched the phosphorus levels so no dark colas except rootbeer.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am 47 and had a heart attack two years ago...I have been monitored by my GP and cardiologist ever since on a 6 month basis...Two days ago I had a physical and blood work done ...My doctor called me back today because my potassium level was high ...He didn't say how high ...But he redid my labs so we'll see. What I want to know is what does that mean to a person with heart disaese?
Avatar f tn I went to have my wisdom teeth removed today and before they started, the nurse mentioned my potassium levels were high. They asked if I was active, if I have eaten bananas recently or drank gatorade. None of these have happned. I have not been to the gym or done any strenous activites in a least a month. I can not stand bananas and do not eat them ever and same with gatorade. I am just curious as to why the doctors asked this and if this is something I should possibly look into.
1171003 tn?1267072103 So if you drink coffee, make sure to do something physical to use up the blood sugar, like vacuuming the house, and be sure to supplement with cal/mag and potassium gluconate. Bananas, potatoes and oranges have potassium, so try to get those into your diet every day. During an "attack" I have notices that a little gin with juice helps. Also, APPLE CIDER VINEGAR or PURE Cranberry Juice with Pomegranate Juice mixed.
1618806 tn?1304734477 Dash and you will probably be ok. If you start having muscle cramps though, it could be a sign that your potassium is too high. If that happens, go to the doctor and they will do bloodwork to test your levels. Hope that helps!
Avatar f tn What are the symptoms of high potassium levels and low potassium levels? My dog is having kidney problems.
