You may take Robitussin DM for coughs or chest congestion. A warm salt-water gargle is recommended for a sore throat. Throat drops, spray, or lozenges are acceptable. A cool air vaporizer may help you sleep at night. Increased fluid intake and getting sufficient rest are essential. If your nasal or throat drainage changes from a clear color, please call the office.
Avatar m tn Deviated nasal septum, nasal polyps and tumors can also cause persistent nasal congestion. Worms in stool can raise the eosinophil count (a part of the white blood cell count) and thus increase the possibility of nasal congestion. You’ll have to discuss all these possibilities with your doctor. The nasal passages will have to be examined. Complete blood count and stool test may be required. You may need to get X-rays or CT scans too. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn you are having an upper respiratory tract infection. For your congestion you can try taking mucolytics( like Bromhexine), antihistaminics (like cetrizine or fexofenadine), saline nasal drops to clear of the mucous and Antiinflammatory (Ibuprofen). Also do steam inhalations 2-3 times / day. Drink plenty of warm water and take bed rest for one or two days. Hope this should reduce your symptoms. If it is not subsiding please do consult your physician.
Avatar n tn The constant runny nose, sneezing, and nasal congestion could be due to vasomotor rhinitis, in which the symptoms occur in response to a trigger, like eating spicy food or going outside in the cold. The primary treatment is simply avoiding the things that trigger your symptoms. It is often treated with a drying nasal spray (like Atrovent) and antihistamines like chlopheneramine and lovatidine are effective. Nasal decongestant drops too relieve congestion.

Avatar f tn The sinus congestion cleared up and then I had severe post nasal drip, where for nights I would just cough. The coughing was so bad it restarted my acid reflux (which I havent had in 8 years but thankfully it cleared up shortly after the coughing fist were done). Finally after using both a steroid nasal spray and nasal rinse, it began to clear up a bit but if I dont drink enough water I get tightness in my throat and it also gets sore.

Avatar f tn m thinking it turned into rebound congestion. Some days I have 0 congestion and some days I have some. Recently I started to cut down on the afrin (I went from twice a day to once a day) and I'm using Flonase. I don't have terrible congestion, but enough to bug me. I'm managing though. Recently I looked inside my nose and saw that it was red on the left side along my nasal wall.
Avatar f tn I am currently 14 weeks 6 days along in my pregnancy and have been suffering from a combination of allergies and nasal congestion for over 3 weeks. My doctor has an approved list of decongestants such as Sudafed but could not tell me if it was safe over prolonged use. They just said to follow the directions on the box.

When this happened to me I would lay on my back. Or stand up and bend over forwards a bit and then tilt my head up backwards.
