2062453 tn?1350332942 Thanks for the ibuprofen comments. Fortunately, I may no longer have HCV for that to be a constraint -- looking forward to my 2-week post treatment viral load blood test next week. Also looking forward to my post-treatment liver biopsy next week, whose results will help me determine how gingerly I need to treat my liver with drugs like ibuprofen and acetaminophen. Cheers.
Avatar m tn Maybe you should check with your hepatoligist before you take anything for the gout- I was told never to take Ibuprofen but that Tylenol was OK if I had back pain which became intolerable ( I have chronic lower back problems). When my husband had flareups of gout, besides icing and elevating the foot he drank lots of water and organic black cherry juice. That seemed to help him a little before they put him on daily Allopurinol.
Avatar f tn Hello I am in the middle of an acute gout attack for the last 36 hours. I have taken 3 500microgram Colchicine tablets 14 hours ago (2 to start then 1 an hour later) but have not seen any relief at all yet, in fact it feels worse. Should I take more colchicine or ibuprofen? I'm not taking any other medication or supplements but have had some apple cider vinegar drinks to see if it would help.
Avatar f tn You don't happen to suffer from gout, do you? There have been a small percentage of people in the Harvoni study group who have said that Harvoni exacerbated their gout. I have gout and at the end of week 1, had a major flare up in both feet and an ankle that crippled me for a month. I've had residual pain since then that gets worse after being immobile for a while and then try and walk. Just a thought. Hope that eases up for you!
Avatar f tn did dr rule out gout for the toe? because it sounds like that is what she is being treated for.
Avatar n tn Yes multiple times, I tried to get into a medical trial for gout medicine and they would not let me me participate because they said I did not have gout. I broke both my ankles when younger and they tell me its artheritis, I went to the mayo in scottsdale and it was confirmed, but the pain is to the point where I cant walk and I dont likeall the oploids prescribed for pain. I have tried everything short of medical marijuana and I am considering trying it.
Avatar f tn Take rest, elevate your limbs while sleeping, take ibuprofen if necessary. If the pain still troubles take an X-ray and visit orthopaedician for further assistance. Take care.
Avatar n tn Hello~I am 53 years old I have been diagnosed with gout even though a blood test for uric acid came out negative. I have had terrible inflammation in my metatarsal phalangeal joint and the smaller joint closer to the tip of my big toe. I have had a cortisone shot in each. I don't drink, eat shellfish and have a mostly plant based diet. I do have hypertension however and am terrified that maybe I have hurt my kidneys because I take the lowest dose of hypertension medicine.
Avatar m tn I've had GOUT for 7 yrs with attacks every 6 months until last year. Started with 100mg allopurnol last summer. All was quite. Dec had a serious attack and after 1-month of trying Indomethecine then Prednisone I received a cortozone shot and allopurnol was increased to 400mg. Uric acid is now down to 4.6 from a high of 6.9 in Dec.
Avatar m tn It allows the heart to pump your blood more efficiently. Was it RXed for your foot swelling? The Colchicine is used to treat gout. Two doses would not have been enough to know if it was effective in treating a gout flare. Gout doesn't always act the same in every person...however it's easy to rule this in or out based on Uric Acid levels in your blood. I assume your PCP has done this and that is his rationale behind dismissing Gout.
Avatar f tn However I do have arthritis and fibromyalgia. It might be worth a trip to your doc to see if it is gout. I used to think gout only affected a person's toes, but my doc says gout is a form of arthritis and can be anywhere in the body.
Avatar n tn The CT scan showed an inflamed kidney. The doctor now believes a kidney infection and has prescribed cipro and Tylenol and Ibuprofen for pain. After 5 days, the pain (while not constant) has not diminished. He often has the chills and a fever that runs 2-3 degrees above normal. One other (possibly not related) issue is that his pain is usually most significant early morning (possibly due to 8 hours of sleep with no tylenol/ibuprofen).
Avatar n tn t already. Pay particular attention to the dietary and lifestyle changes section for managing gout. Best of luck to you. I know it's a terribly painful condition. Overview Gout is a kind of arthritis that occurs when uric acid builds up in the joints. Acute gout is a painful condition that typically affects one joint. Chronic gout is repeated episodes of pain and inflammation, which may involve more than one joint.
107366 tn?1305680375 I have had episodes of gout for more than 10 years now. It wasn't too bad up until about three years ago when I started chemotherapy for cancer. I also have Crohn's disease, and believe it and the gout mean I definitely have issues with auto-immune disorders. In the past 6 months, my Allopurinol has been upped to 300 mg, then to 450 mg per day. I also follow a low purine diet most of the time, but I admit, sometimes I gotta have a steak!
Avatar n tn At times an X-ray is sufficient to diagnose them, or you may need a MRI for diagnosis. Treatment of arthritis is anti-inflammatory drugs and physiotherapy. Loose bodies can only be removed by surgery. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral to an orthopedic specialist. You may also need blood tests to rule out rheumatoid arthritis and gout (rare in elbow). Take care!
Avatar f tn I was able to get to the clinic, and found out that what I have is gout. My uric acid is high, and has been for some time based on previous blood tests, but no one thought it necessary to treat til now. I do have an old injury in that foot, in which I had an ankle reconstruction, so because gout is a form of arthritis, it loves old injuries. That explains why it is in my ankle and not other joints.
634874 tn?1254430697 Gout causes problems with the big toe, but it can turn up several places. You must get on medicine for Gout. The pain will be gone in 2 days with the right medication.
444337 tn?1428073510 Two weeks on Harvoni and have had a low grade fever for a week. i've also had a brutal case of gout in both feet for about the same time for which I cannot take pain medication. don't know if the gout is causing the fever or the tx. currently bedridden and cannot walk at all. kidney doc said I can't take anything for the gout or fever and I'm in pure misery. only sleep a couple of hours a night.
Avatar n tn I also had an MRI...Normal! Also had a series of bloodwork for anything from lyme disease to arthritis or gout...all of which came back normal. Also had a cortizone shot, which had no improvement. A doctor tried to remove some fluid but couldn't extract anything. And now, per the advice of the doctor who did the orthopaedic surgery on my left knee, I'm wearing a support stocking, which also has not improved the situation.
Avatar m tn Thank you for replying. I decided to see a traumatologist. X-ray showed no break or pulled tendon etc. Dr did not believe arthritis or gout but to be totally sure suggested I do a blood test for uric acid. Haven't done that yet. No conclusive diagnosis but doctor agreed that dislocation is possible. Told to take anti inflammatory. Since seeing doctor there is a slight red horizontal line about mid way down toe and slight redness on side. Dr said toe was somewhat swollen.
