Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen allergy

ibuprofen

Avatar f tn Hi, Yes, some people might develop allergic reactions in the form of facial swelling, hives, asthma, breathing difficulty, shock etc with use of ibuprofen. Most commonly there is aspirin allergy noticed in coincidence with allergy to ibuprofen. Asprin belongs to salicylate group while ibuprofen belongs to NSAID’s group. It does not mean that allergy will occur to every compound of that group.
3122657 tn?1357432602 Hi all so far 3 months into treatment i was pretty much sailing through it but not by body is hurting my back my legs just everything i ran out of Acetaminophen and want to know if anyone here knows if i can take Ibuprofen for the aches i am undetectable at week 4 no liver damage if someone could help me out with this Thanks Much love Karen
Avatar n tn You should be just fine unless you have an allergy to ibuprofen. Prescription Motrin is 800mg of Ibuprofen so that is the equivalent of four of the 200mg Ibuprofen. If you don't break out in a rash or have breathing difficulties after taking one or two Ibuprofen, please don't lose sleep over taking a third. As I said, as long as you can take Ibuprofen in the first place without having a problem, three won't bother you.
Avatar f tn The whole overbody hives experience had lessened. Last night, I took 800 ml of Ibuprofen for pain. Within an hour, my face began to swell, hives popped out all over my body and I was itching like crazy. I took an antihistimine and that helped. My question is: After all the medical advice trying to figure out what I am allergic to, could it be Ibuprofen? If so, what can I take in it's place for back and hip pain from past surgeries?
Avatar f tn Hi, the condition strongly suggests angioedema which is due to hypersensitivity reaction (type 1). Drugs like amoxicillin, certain painkillers like aspirin, ibuprofen, certain garments, environmental allergen and certain food (fish, mushroom, peanuts, soy etc) can cause such reaction. In your case, the allergic reactions seems to be secondary to ibuprofen and you should avoid further exposure.
Avatar f tn If you have been taking the medication, its unlikely that you may develop an allergic reaction now. In general, reactions to aspirin are common. If you have an aspirin allergy or sensitivity, you may also have a reaction to other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) and naproxen (Aleve, others).
1875471 tn?1323858170 Hi please help me...since the last year i have been having some allergy problems....On my first day of my Menstrual period my eye suddenly swells up and itchs badly. At first i thought i was allergic to a combination of paracetamol and ibuprofen..so i stopped that and started taking an alternative to it which the doc prescribed. But there is no difference. I am just wondering what on earth am i allergic to.
7998970 tn?1435183202 As long as what you're talking doesn't have naproxen or ibuprofen in it and doesn't have extra letters at the end (DM, PM, etc.) It's fine to take. But with allergy meds it's different, so if you need allergy meds talk to your doctor before. Regular claritin is ok but I'm not sure what else is.
Avatar m tn Cells within the taste bud have a limited life span of approximately ten days to two weeks only. Avoid hot, spicy and acidic foods. Use an analgesic, such acetaminophen or ibuprofen, to relieve pain.Take care and keep us posted.
461838 tn?1255790216 I have posed the question of tylenol vs ibuprofen, and people here have weighed in generally warning against ibuprofen. Even tylenol, you would not want to exceed 2 or 3g per day. Basically, ask you hepatologist about any medications you are taking, including OTC's. Allergies themselves can cause much headaches because the sinus system in the areas behind the forehead, nose, and eyes are clogged up with fluid. Ask your doc for a safe allergy treatment.
Avatar n tn Because allergy meds seem to only work for a while on me like a year or so, the doc has now done allergy testing and I am on allergy shots. I do not have any severe allergic reactions ever but due to the constant headaches and alot of sinus infections we went to shots. Other avenues of my headache causes have already been exhausted. I have no structural problem in my sinuses and my MRI was clear. On my allergy testing..
Avatar n tn Hi Mainly the eosinophil count. Allergy can be due to high count and high count can also cause allergy. High eosinophil count is mostly due to parasitic infestations. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
1442483 tn?1284210716 However it did state Moderately Acute Gastritis H. Pylori not detected. I already had scheduled an allergy test for Wed. He tested allergic to yeast (and carrots, but no worries there for sure!). At the initial consultation with the Dr.
Avatar f tn the biggest problem with this new type of headache is i have a severe allergy to aspirin, ibuprofen, tramadol, ect. do you have any other suggestions? he said he would research it and we would discuss it at my next appt.

Avatar f tn Is it true you shouldn't take ibuprofen it can harm the baby? I just seen this today while doing research as to this is my first. i have been taking it before I found out I was thinking my period was coming and I've always had bad cramps so I know to start taking it before my period comes to help with the pain. Should I be worried that I've harmed the baby from taking it? I'm 5 weeks BTW.

Avatar m tn Can Kidney pain be a side effect of taking Ibuprofen? I was taking ibuprofen last week consecutively for 3 days (400mg t.i.d) after laser eye surgery. A day or so after starting it I experienced mild pain/discomfort in my left flank that came in waves. When I stopped taking the ibuprofen the flank pain also stopped. The next day I took one more dose - the flank pain started again within an hour, but was gone the next day.
