Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy with bso

hysterectomy

414018 tn?1268611672 I am surprised that with a reoccurance and stage 3 (even of borderline OC) they did not do a complete hysterectomy (TAH/BSO, total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy, or removal of both ovaries). I was dx with stage 1a and go to Roswell Cancer Center and when I was there did some reading as follows: They recommend TAH/BSO and "aggressive cytoreductive surgery. Patients with stage 3 and 4 disease with no gross residual disease have had a 100% survival rate".
Avatar f tn I am 3 weeks post-op after having had a total abdominal hysterectomy with BSO. Spent 10 days in the hospital with a pretty bad post-op abdominal infection, 104 temps, large bowel ileus, vomiting, the whole gammit. Now I am home and healing, but having repeated hot flashes and night sweats. I'm finding it very hard to sleep, and along with the hot flashes are ridiculous spurts of being very quick to anger. Normally, I'm am a pretty calm person and not quick to anger.
Avatar n tn Had a hysterectomy 7yrs ago. did not remove ovaries or fallopian tubes. Starting to have lots of pelvic pain again. Will I have to have them removed eventually?
Avatar n tn you need to make an appointment with your Dr ,,could be as simple as vaginal tissue being dry or could be something else, the vagina does "dry out" after a BSO usually a lubricant is in order for sexual activity, with out could cause tearing
Avatar n tn an abdominal hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus with or sometimes with out the cervix. a BSO bilatreral ( meaning both side) salpingo ( meaning tubes) and ooperectomy( meaning surgical removal of ovaries). So in conclusion you have had you uterus , tubes and ovvaries removed,,,I dont understand the "leave the uterus part" the removal of the uterus is a hysterectomy..
Avatar f tn I have had endometriosis since the age of 12, am now 42 yo. I had bso hysterectomy last July. My dr. believes a little bit of endo remains behind my cervix (kept that). My dr. would like me to take 3 mos. of lupron to suppress any remaining endo. Is this safe to do after bso hysterectomy?
1046985 tn?1305117048 Well its now 12 1/2 weeks since BSO, and have just been put off work for a further 4 weeks minimum, which will make 4 months total. Please anyone having ovaries removed, make sure you are prepared for surgical menopause. I wasn't, and was one of the rare few that basically just had a mental breakdown. I have been on HRT for 4 weeks and that has made a huge difference, and antidepressants for 8 weeks, which are still being adjusted.
Avatar n tn got a hyster ( uterus and cervix only 0 had a bso 1 yr later..anyways..it was after my BSO tha I suffered excruciating back pain..it only lasted a month i told my surgeon he suggested it was likely from the way I was placed during surgery which in my case took 2 1/2 times longer than normal as my ovary was addheared to the bowel . I also have trauma induced arthritis from an accident it effect my spine and neck.
Avatar n tn m 38 and I found out my OB/GYN is doing a TAH/Oopherectomy. He said with all the severe problems this was the only way to go. I have had my periods every 2 weeks for almost 2 years now. about 5 months ago they started getting really painful and its just gotten worse. I have been tested for just about everything. He did say I could have tested false/positive. Since my family history of uterine cancer and endometriosis. I went on depo provera but it only made the pain worse.
Avatar f tn I am close to 10 weeks post op Hyst/BSO with a sacrocorporplexy. I also had severe lower abdomen and bladder pain which began nearly a week post op. I've done alot of reading and UTI'S are very common after a hysterectomy. I experienced a real bugger of one, which took multiple antibiotics to clear. Definitely check with your doc to rule this out. I continue to have low abdominal pain, although I am sure the infection has cleared, the pain is similar to that of a bladder infection.
Avatar n tn I am 29 years old, I have two childern I was lucking to have. I have endometriosis, and I have had ovarian cysts since I was about 18 years old I go through pain every month. I currently have been in alot of pain and my PCP ordered a CT to check for kidney stones which I have had a problem with for about 10 years, In my results it should to small kidney stones, but also two large fluid dense cyst, one measuring 4.0 x 3.7 cm and the other 2.3 x 1.7 cm both on my right side.
Avatar n tn A hysterectomy is a very serious , painful operation with the possibilty of very troublesome life time side effects..Only as a last resort should anyone get a hysterectomy. Your age matters too, the younger you are the less likely you will find a dr to perform the procedure. I think you do need to see your gyn and ask about possibilites to control menstural pain. there is a wide variety of meds..stay away from narcotics if you can.
Avatar f tn I feel like I now have officailly lost 12 months quality of life, as I suffered for 7 months with pain, then had BSO November last year with stage 1A OVCA diagnosed, and will only be starting back at work next week, 4 months post-op. It's a really hard decision.
Avatar f tn 6 cm and the other a bouncing 17x15x11cm. They want to do a hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo oopherectomy. Looking at the posts it seems many other women have had cystectomies. I have had 2 ca125 tests, both above normal but not amazingly high and surgeon thinks cysts are benign (phew) as one has got so big and not causing really nasty additional symptoms except cyst is very uncomfortable and often painful. It is ultimatley my choice, and I am not keen on a hysterectomy, but am confused.
591421 tn?1219072704 Three weeks ago, I had a partial abdominal hysterectomy. The pain is EXCRUCIATING!!! The pain radiates from the left side of my abdomen to just below my belly button. I try to get out of bed, I'm doubling over in pain and I'm practically fainting from the pain whenever I stand. I've taken pain medication, however, my medicine makes me constipated. I have to take Senokot. My concerns are having to constantly take medication for bowel movement.
Avatar n tn it would seem to me that either your hrt is having new side effects or something else is off with your hormones, Combined with an increase in anxiety and depression I would say you definatley need some blood work, are you up to date on your mamograms?? Try not to worry, its probably just you needing to adjust your meds, but you really should go see either your gyno or primary doctor, Id schedule an appointment soon if I were you.
Avatar n tn The last two ultrasounds showed the Endometrial stripe being normal in thickness but small areas of echogenicity in the endometrial stripe are seen. I have tried the Lupron shot with side effects that I could not continue with. Altthough the Lupron shot did cease my pevlice pain, once off for a month the pain returned and is constant. My Dr. is recommending a total hysterectomy and I am not sure what to do or if there are any other options.
Avatar f tn He suggested doing the surgery that way due to alot of scar tissue build up after the hysterectomy...after alot of doctor visits with other specialists to rule out any other cause for my pelvic pain I was back at the GYN again and NOW he is referring me to another doctor who performs a surgery called Da Vinci surgery, which is less invasive. My question is number one, is it safe...what are the side effects if any and do you feel that is a safe way to deal with my medical problem?
Avatar m tn With radical surgery the uterus (hysterectomy) and ovaries (oophorectomy) are removed. After hysterectomy alone (i.e. without removal of the ovaries), there is a significant chance that endometriosis will recur; 10-15% of women had recurrence after 1-3 years and 40-50% after 5 years. The more severe the endometriosis the more likely it is to recur. The chance of recurrence is much smaller if the ovaries are also removed at the time of hysterectomy, but this makes a woman menopausal.
Avatar m tn I asked the GYN Onc for an ultrasound in addition to the CT scan to make sure nothing is wrong with my other ovary. dr said the ultrasound is not necessary since I had the CT scan, and is 90% sure the cyst I have is benign, and I have no fluid in the abdomen, which is also good. Dr also told me that if it is malignant, I will require a total hysterectomy and staging. Is there anyway I can find out before surgery if the cyst is in fact benign?
7028106 tn?1387217145 I was diagnosed with stage 2 er+/pr+ breast cancer with lymph node involvement in November of 2011. I am 43 years of age. I had a mastectomy with lymph node dissection. I received 4 treatments of Adriamycin and Cytoxan, then 12 treatments of Taxol, followed by 33 radiation treatments. I am currently taking Anastrozole. My ob/gyn wondered why they didn't want me to have a total or partial hysterectomy. Should I do this. Am I at high risk for cancer of the ovaries or uterus?
Avatar f tn I am not a dr but have had a hysterectomy, and a bso. also have been CL here for quite some time, kearned much from others experiences, I can say with 100 % certainty that I personally think premarin is the WORST choice for hormone replacement. Could not begin to tell you how many have reported same as you. Premarin is made from urine of a pregnant horse. Bio-identical hormones are newer, safer and can be tailor adjusted for your own personal anatomy.
Avatar f tn I am a 50 yr old female post-hysterectomy (TAH-BSO) - I obviously no longer have a cervix - and while I realize HPV can attack more areas than the cervix, I am currently HPV free. I have a partner who I have not had vaginal nor oral sex with yet - he has recently been diagnosed with a gential wart confirmed as HPV in the VERY early stages. He is currently undergoing topcial treatment. My questions are: 1) What is the likelihood of contracting mucosal i.e.
Avatar m tn //www.medhelp.org/posts/Hysterectomy/Disorderly-proliferative-endometrium/show/2170097# got non stop bleeding since 60 days. So I consulted with doctor and advised to do biopsy and got the following impression. Impression: Disorderly Proliferative Endometrium Negative for cancer Doctor advised for TAH BSO and given divory tab 10 mg for 7 days. My question is there is no other way to cure it. Since I already had two ceisuring to get birth of babies.
Avatar n tn Nine years I had ovarian cancer. With a hysterectomy and chemo therapy, I have remained cancer free. My question is: can ovarian cancer return?
Avatar f tn s ,,,,turned into andeomyosis. I refused Leupron.opted for a hysterectomy followed a year later with a BSO, I do not regret my decision. Many women do, I think its because they dont get their hormones right. I am taking bio-identical..I am by no means advocating you get a hysterectomy,.You need to study A LOT before you make that decision. It is a very painful operation and a difficult recovery.
