Hysterectomy vertical incision

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy vertical incision

hysterectomy

566073 tn?1219434819 I had a C section (emergency, with a vertical incision) years ago. The hysterectomy used the same vertical incision. My recovery was SO easy from the second surgery, because all the nerve endings had been severed in the first surgery. I've had another surgery in which the same incision was used, with the same incredibly painless recovery the second time. The first surgeries using those scars were pretty horrible, but the second were a cinch! I hope you have the same luck as I did!
489774 tn?1212935663 does anyone know what type of incision is made in a laparotomy? is it vertical or horizonal? and how long of an incision is it? I will be having one at the end of the month, and I'm just curious. I have a 16 x 13 cm cyst and all I want is for it to be benign, so I'm not really worried about the surgery. I just would like to know what will take place. ( I've never had any type of surgery before, and have only been in the hospital for the birth of my 2 children....
Avatar f tn Had my football sized cyst plus total hysterectomy done Monday 5 July 2010. Was a vertical incision. Pain management great, and home on the 3rd day following surgery. Just waiting for those darned biopsies to come back. Best of luck and keep your chin up, and you'll be fine. The people on this website are the best. I have a real fear or phobia of hospitals, and actually the day of the surgery I was in tears begging my husband to take me home, but I was fine.
Avatar m tn when can I start these. I have a vertical 8-10 inch incision which is fully healed on the outside and a new pouchy stomach which I would like to tone up. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I had surgery 6 weeks to have a very large complex cyst removed along with ovaries and appendix...because the cyst was soooo big. I had a hysterectomy 3 years ago, so I had a horizontal scar at my bibkini line. Well, this time around its a long vertical cut that runs through the original incision, up and around my belly button. My biggest issue, besides having a huge scar, is that it looks like I was stitched unevenly.
Avatar f tn I have a vertical incision as well when I had my hysterectomy last month and my staples were in for 8 days and were taken out by my MD. Even when I had my C-sections (horizontal scars - easier healing, less time etc) they were in for 3 days and either an MD or NP took them out; taking out staples isn't something that I've ever had a nurse (who wasn't an advanced practice nurse) do.
489774 tn?1212935663 When I had a horizontal incision, I think they were on for a few weeks. As far as the incision healing, it will take about 4-6 weeks to heal completely. I noticed with mine that it leaked for about a week or so and then it started healing pretty well. My incision went from my bikini line to just above my bellybutton. I know that even now, 3 years later, it gets kinda sore if I have jeans on that rub it. It just takes time. I hope you are doing well on your recovery.
1363198 tn?1278632079 Mine looked alot better 6 weeks post lap (vertical incision) but I had a hysterectomy last week (horizonital incison) and am back to square one with the hanging over wobbly bit! *sigh*. Give your body a chance though as it's been though a lot! If you still think things aren't looking normal in a week or so, get your doctor to have a look?
178345 tn?1242536246 I am on the V-Dot since my surgery in May. I had gallbladder removed by laproscopic and then an abdominal vertical incision to remove 2 large masses 12cm and 10cm. I ended up with a full hysterectomy at 40. Unfortunately I ended up having to go back in for emergency surgery a week after for a ruptured bowel and because I was cut 2x in the same week i needed a wound vac for almost 3 weeks to help heal the wound.
Avatar f tn In either case the rate of success and healing is greatly improved from a vertical or horizontal incision. Im really glad I could help, any more questions just let me know !!
Avatar f tn t be done ( I had signed up ahead to do whatever/however necessary as you have done) so I had to have a laparotomy w/ a vertical incision (which hurts more than the horizontal but still manageable w/ some good pain meds). I'll say a prayer you can have yours laparoscopic but even if not you will recover and you've had surgery before so you know in part what to expect!! I feel a million times better now and it is only day 9 post surgery.
189069 tn?1323402138 m having a vertical incision though and that make me nervous too because I have read from a few people that their recovery took longer with a vertical incision. Has anyone had both types of surgery that can compare vetical and bikini (c-section) incisions? Does vertical really heal slower? Also, I haven't had a period in 3 years. Does anyone think that the removal of my cyst would help me get my period back?
Avatar f tn Marie, I spoke to a friend who had the vertical surgery and she said the same thing (that the vertical heals faster than the hortizonal incision). Thanks for your post.
Avatar n tn what really are the advantages and disadvantages of bikini incision and vertical incision? I am 25 years old and i want to have a baby someday of course.. Im hoping for your reply guys. Thank you very much for your time and advice!
20908686 tn?1621836436 Am curious to know is it possible for surgeon to view or feel with fingers the liver and upper abdominal parts even when he has cut i mean done vertical lower midline incision(straight cut from below belly button till pubis line)
1106574 tn?1258918046 I am sorry that this is turning into a bigger procedure that even I predicted. This is close to the type of surgery I had, but I had a vertical incision. No matter how much they end up removing, the recovery will be about the same (6-8 weeks). You can read my story in the "about me" section of my profile. I do hope this all turns out benign as the majority of these cases prove to be. Please let us know how you are doing. You'll be in my prayers for a happy outcome.
Avatar f tn d make a larger vertical incision to get the lymph nodes etc.
Avatar f tn Good luck to you all. My football sized tumor came out via a 4" vertical incision (below navel to bikini line). It had ruputred however so maybe they didn't need to make it so large? It's important to get them out intact incase they are cancerous and spread cancer cells around. I went back to work after 6 weeks but I only work part time anyway.
Avatar n tn The first surgeon said she could/would start that way but that given the size and potentially immobility of the mass, there was a high likelihoold she would need to convert to full laparotomy (vertical inciision due to placement). She was fine starting with laprascopy then converting during the surgery so long as I was ok with having smaller incisions then a larger one.
Avatar f tn My cyst has not gone away according to ultrasound on Feb.17. I am nervous to have open surgery with vertical incision. Can they not do the a laparoscopy. Please advice.
Avatar f tn About 3 months ago, the incision became inflamed right at my waist line. (The incision runs vertical on my right side about two inches from my belly button.) From the rubbing of my clothing at my waist line, the incision became not only inflamed but opened up to about 1/2 inch and developed a hole about 1/2 deep. The hole and surrounding area then started hurting severly and started to pus and bleed, sometimes profusely.
Avatar f tn I think that the doctor has a better view when they do a vertical incision. It made me feel better when my doctor did a vertical incision during my last surgery in June. Has your doctor said which way your incision will be? You can have a different amount of discharge, because when you have a cyst, it messes with your hormones. I know that the waiting is the hardest because our minds wonder about what the outcome will be.
Avatar f tn They use the horizontal incision on the bikini line. The other type they do is a vertical incision but i think its rare that they do that. The vertical incision i think takes more to recover from but usually there isnt a difference in recovery time from normal to emergency it just depens on the circumstances of the emergency.
Avatar f tn She has suggested an abdominal hysterectomy with a vertical incision including the cervix. I would keep my ovaries. She also said that Uterine Artery Embolization was a possibility. She seem to indicate that myomectomy was not a good idea. I could live with the sympotoms if I knew they weren't going to get any worse but the position of the cervix is concerning. Has anyone had a similar diagnosis? What options worked or didn't work for you. Thank you.
654396 tn?1237508912 Good question. I wish I had the answer myself! I have a 7 cm complex cyst on the LT ovary and a 2 cm on the RT, (that are growing) and just 2 small uterine fibroids and my gyn/onc wants to do a complete hysterectomy thru an abdominal (vertical) incision (not even the bikini line). I keep reading about "bagging" the cyst and "freezing" it in order to test for cancer first, but for some reason, she insists on the whole kaboodle!
Avatar n tn Hi. I just had a total hysterectomy (Jan 29) and came home from the hospital yesterday. I can tell you that the gas can be a killer! I'm having stabbing pains in my upper abdomen which then travel to my lower left abdomen. Gax-X helps somewhat as of course does the percoset. Try to relax and walk even if it's just around the house. Moving around helps move the gas.
Avatar n tn It's been a month since my surgery. The right incision is completely healed over. The middle one seems okay. The left incision is a thin red line that is tender to the touch, with a tiny dot on one end, and the area around that incision is still a little black and blue. I'm going to call the doc's office tomorrow and ask the nurse practitioner, but wondered if I'm just being alarmist. When I put a damp paper towel on the incision, it seemed to ease the pain.
