hysterectomy

Avatar m tn so my friend's mother has a benign tumor in the uterus and she's confused between choosing to completely remove the uterus or just the tumor and i don't know what is the type of the tumor or how much it has invaded ..can you help?
8933082 tn?1402473412 I also have a tumor on the 2nd side of my uterus and will probably have to have a hysterectomy in the next few years. Not many people in my family made it past 30 without having to have one and I'm already 27. Just not sure how to feel about things. I want to be excited but I'm scared to get my hopes up, just to lose this baby.
Avatar m tn Surgical methods are the mainstay of treatment include hysterectomy, or removal of the uterus (and the fibroids with it). Myomectomy is the selective removal of just the fibroids within the uterus. Myomectomy can be done through a laparoscope and hence you can opt for it. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar f tn -) If you have a pituitary tumor did you find that having the hysterectomy helped some of your symptoms?
Avatar f tn i am 51 in menopause and have a huge family history with cancer, The dr recently found a tumor in my ovary and recommended taking both out.... any thoughts on also having a hysterectomy at the same time?
Avatar n tn After having a vaginal hysterectomy, my Mom (mid 60's) went back to her obgyn for her hysterectomy follow up and was told she had Stage 2 cancer. Here is exactly what the Dr. said: "invasive adenocarcinoma. Invasion into outer half of muscle of uterus. No extension to outside of uterus. Stage 2". He wrote this down for my mom. How does this all sound to you?
Avatar m tn Once the Abdominal tumor was discovered it had to be removed immediately. During surgery, the Surgeon was unable to seperate the tumor from my uterus so they had to remove it. Additionally, they had to remove both ovaries (one had a small tumor and the other had become attached to the large abdominal tumor). Since the surgery, I have not felt well and been in pain. I have constant cramping, I can not eat and I have lost over 20 pounds. I am on estradial patch.
Avatar n tn I am 49 years old, have a fibroid tumor that has to come out, my doctor says he can remove just the tumor, or he can do a hysterectomy...which ever I want. I don't know what I want, or need. I'm afraid if he just takes the tumor that I'll have to have the hysterectomy in a year or two. Either way he says i will get the bikini cut, I worry though, I heard there may be problems if there is scar tissue....and I have had 2 c sections.
Avatar f tn I'm 50 and have always been in good health. For the past two years I have been anemic. Recently, I had a 30 day bleed and my gyn gave me meds to stop it. I have had a good pap, good ca125, good uterus biopsy, but the ultra sound and ct we're abnormal showing a baseball size mass in my uterus and abnormal ovaries. I'm scheduled for a complete hysterectomy on 11/12. Should I get a second opinion? Is this customary procedure for these issues?
Avatar f tn If you still have a uterus, a trans-vaginal ultrasound is a good approach to look at the tissue of the uterus, tubes, and ovaries. If there are new cystic structures next to the uterus in the location of the removed ovary, that should be easily seen by ultrasound. When the uterus has been removed, it is harder to see the ovaries and tubes by ultrasound. These structures may be adherent to a higher area in the pelvis when they are no longer connected to the uterus.
Avatar f tn My doctor tried to do a hysteroscopy and D&C on me (in hospital, general anesthesia) and said cervix is completely scarred shut. 3 weeks until my follow up. We still don't know what is the "area of concern" in my uterus. She mentioned we'll talk hysterectomy next. I'm 46. Do I have options? Trans vag US showed this area, unsuccessful Saline Ultrasound - the wall is up apparently. I do not want to play roulette. If doc thinks it is cancer, I want it out.
Avatar n tn My sister had her uterus removed in 1985 and was out of work for six weeks. I had a full hysterectomy and teratoma tumor on Friday and was back at work on Monday (albeit at home because I wanted it that way). The miracles of modern day med tech. Gotta love what you do! Thank you so much for helping me figure this out!
Avatar f tn However, most of the women in my family have had cervical cancer, and while that does put them at higher risk for vaginal cancer none of them have had a single abnormal result after getting their hysterectomy. So keep in mind that a hysterectomy can be very very effective. That being said, I have never heard of a biopsy making a tumor (cancerous or non) grow worse than it would otherwise.
Avatar n tn which is wiser, more chemo or hysterectomy following breast cancer surgery....? a cyst was found during a ultrasound on the uterus This discussion is related to hysterectomy/mastectomy at once?.
Avatar n tn Last week, I had my right ovary and tube removed due to a cyst with multiple nodules. My gyn and a consulting oncologist both said they thought it was an LMP tumor based on the ultrasounds (pathology reports aren't back). I have researched the topic as much as possible and the information I have found varies from you should have a complete hysterectomy with radiation and chemo to saying that just removing the impacted ovary with no further treatment is the best way to go.
Avatar f tn I had a spindle cell mass removed robotically near uterus in 2011 and had a hysterectomy as well. The tumor was sent to John Hopkins and came back as spindle cell neoplasm. No treatment was recommended. 1 year ago I had a diverticulitis attack and when I had a CT scan in hospital, they told me I had a mass in my right pelvis. 3 Dr's that I've seen feel that this is exactly the same I had in the past.
Avatar f tn i just returned from doctor this evening and he thought that the prolactin possibly could be from the tumor pressing on the ovary and/or uterus causing release of prolactin. he also said that the uterus and 1 ovary will have to come out along with the tumors b/c they are sorta fused/inflammed together. so i sure hope he will be able to save my 1 ovary. i do not want to take hormones or go thru drastic change. my surgery is set for 5-7-09.
Avatar n tn My GYN ONC wants to do a total hysterectomy. I was hoping to keep my uterus short term to see if donor eggs were an option for us. I'm scared and I don't know what to do. I want kids but I also want to be safe first. I was diagnosed with 1C borderline ovca in Nov 2007. If during surgery things look all clear and isolated to the ovary, do I need to remove my uterus now? I only want to keep it 1-2 years longer.
187666 tn?1331173345 Another woman (extended family) was given the diagnosis today. At least part of it: the abdomen looked clear at surgery time, they found some cancer in the ovaries but still testing the tumor in the uterus. The news was if it was ovarian only, she'll have chemo. If it involved the uterus, she would have radiation and chemo. I don't recall anyone here mentioning radiation treatment for cancer in that area. Anyone know about this? Yes, she had a full hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn By the way, if the cyst is benign, you could be a candidate for a supracervical laparoscopic hysterectomy, or a laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy with removal of ovary(s). I'm sure that you don't want more surgery, but you even more don't want more cancer! Good luck!
Avatar n tn I had surgery to remove 3 cysts in my ovalry, uterus years ago, .not a full hystectomy. I won't suggest it hyst. unless your GYN says otherwise. But, I do believe it needs to be removed though. My cysts doubled the size overnight...luckily, I was already scheduled to be operated on that day. Do you know if you have endometriosis? There's medication for that to decrease the chance of cyst growth I believe. Not sure exactly. Best of luck...hope my response helps you a little.
752468 tn?1237560359 NOT saying you may not need a hysterectomy of its what I think it is.....You may or you may not they may be able to just remove the tumor....Keep in touch ok...let me know how your doing..
Avatar f tn After a long battle with ovarian cysts, four weeks ago I had one ovary removed, along with my uterus (due to some fibroids). While my doc was doing surgery, my appendix appeared red, inflamed, and had scar tissue surrounding it and therefore, it was also removed, However, later, I was told by the nurse that my appendix came back from the pathology report as "normal.
Avatar n tn My friend just found out she has a tumor on both ovaries she is 45, she is going to have a hysterectomy also, very, very scared. They arent doing the surgery for two weeks.
Avatar f tn A benign tumor of smooth muscle in the wall of the uterus. A myoma of the uterus is commonly called a fibroid. Uterine fibroids are the single most common indication for hysterectomy. Fibroids can be present and be inapparent. However, they are clinically apparent in up to 25% of women and cause significant morbidity, including prolonged or heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pressure or pain, and, in rare cases, reproductive dysfunction.
