Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy uterus removal

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn by definition a hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus with or without the cervix, a seperate operation is called a bilater salphigo Ooperectomy which is the removal of the fallopian tubes and ovaries, they are sometimes removed during a hysterectomy but not technically a part of a hysterectomy. Hyster means uterus in medicial terms.
Avatar f tn suggest to undergo open surgery for removal of uterus ovaries has cysts. she told we will see it later. she told me to under go open surgery. another dr. suggested laprocopy. which one is good in long run and i want to know if i dont remove my ovary is there a possiblility of cancer in long run. i am confused pls help to get rid of this night mare.
Avatar f tn A partial hyst-removal of cervis, a total hyst-removal of cervix and Uterus, and a Total hyst with Oophrectomy is removal of cervix, removal of Uterus and removal of ovaries. I am just telling you this because when I decided to do it, I wanted it done right. Hope you get some relief soon.
Avatar f tn Dr put in a Murena device for now, but suggested removing my uterus. Waiting on biopsy results to give him a yay or nay. My mom had a hysterectomy and suffered huge complications. I dont know what to do to be honest and could use some insight..Thank you.
Avatar n tn What was exactly a full hysterectomy for you? Some doctors call a hysterectomy just removal of the uterus. For my full debulking hysterectomy I had my uterus, cervix, both ovaries, both fallopian tubes and full omentum apron and my appendix... Did you have your ovaries removed? If you did you could have remnant ovarie tissue that has cysts.. you need to ask more questions... I hope you find the answers...
Avatar f tn But he also added as a plastic surgeon he cannot assure the future functions of the ovaries and the uterus. At first they had told to remove uterus and now different doctor suggests non-removal of uterus by performing a plastic surgery. We are questioned as to how her future will be after this plastic surgery....
Avatar f tn Absolutely you should keep your ovaries, and if you decide the removal of your uterus is called for you should look for a surgeon who has good results removing the uterus without compromising the ovaries. If you are not having problems with your fibroids, I'd wonder what the issue is. If your doctor gives you static, ask him how he would feel if someone told him his testicles should be removed so he wouldn't get testicular cancer in the future.
Avatar n tn a uterus removal is a hard surgery as far as recovery and emotions ..but you (anyone) can live quite well with out the uterus. Please update us when you can.
Avatar f tn If I have a hysterectomy, seeing how I had my tubes cut and they remove my uterus will I still have monthly periods? Also, we are going on a cruise in Oct, will I be complete healed by then? Thanks for your time.
Avatar n tn im have vaginal removal of my uterus and im haveing a spinal block no anesthesia should i stop taking phentermine & advil
Avatar n tn I agree with tmarland04. An ultrasound usually does not detect endometriosis. I personally had endometriosis. I underwent laparascopic surgery in 2001 and battled it for 6 years until I finally had to have a complete hysterectomy (ovary removal) and I am only 31 years old.
Avatar m tn a hysterectomy by defenition is the surgical removal of the uterus. a woman must have a uterus to be pregnant therfore it must of been some other female surgery you had , such as the one tube and ovary thats called a salpongoooperectomy...its really not a hysterectomy..they do use the term complete hyster when uterus tubes ovarys and cervix are all removed so the medical terms get a bit confusing anyways congradulations and good luck !
Avatar n tn A hysterectomy means removal of the uterus. The ovaries are often not removed. Oopherectomy (sp?) means the ovaries were removed. Find out if you still have them. It is possible to get ovca following a hysterectomy. Please see your doc for a workup. I wish you the best.
Avatar f tn I agree with old_before_my_time...I had a complete hysterectomy at a younger age...30's and have had nothing but continued problems with what was supposed to be cured as well as a whole bunch of new health issues and dysfunction...How far out are you in your healing from the eptopic pregnancy and tube removal surgery? Have you called you surgeon to tell them how swollen you are? could be normal healing depending on how far out you are from this...but if in doubt a call in to the dr.
Avatar f tn I just noticed your age, have Dr do a hormone level test..this would indicate how close you are to menopause ..
Avatar n tn By "partial hysterectomy" are you saying your uterus is removed but not your ovaries? The definition of menopause is that your periods are gone and have been gone for a year. But if your uterus is removed, you would not have periods. But I think that what you are asking is whether your ovaries will stop functioning and stop making estrogen and whatever else and you will begin to have menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes and dry skin.
Avatar f tn Surgeon sugested the total hysterectomy with uterus, left ovary and tube, lymphnodes and abdominal fat removal. Very emotional. can somebody gime me advise what to do?
Avatar f tn Your back and rib cage pain (and possibly leg pain) could be an indication of bone loss which can occur fairly rapidly after the ovaries are removed (or shut down after hysterectomy). But hysterectomy (uterus removal) even when ovaries are not removed destroys pelvic integrity since the ligaments that hold the uterus in place are the support structures for the torso.
Avatar f tn The doctors in your area must be more ethical than those in my area because hysterectomy as well as ovary removal (castration) occurs at alarmingly high rates where I live. Also, the uterine ligaments are the structural supports for the pelvis so severing them to remove the uterus explains why hysterectomized women have short, thick midsections, big belllies, and tend to develop chronic back and hip pain down the road.
804498 tn?1238100998 I agree with the above poster. If you've had a full hysterectomy, removal of uterus and ovaries, there is no way you can get pregnant and deliver a baby.
