Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy tah

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn There are two ways to do the surgery. The old-fashioned method is called a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy, or TAH, meaning the work is done through an abdominal incision. Recovery time is easily 6 to 8 weeks. A Total Vaginal Hysterectomy (TVH) means the uterus and cervix are removed through the vagina. A laparascope is used through tiny incisions in the abdomen to release the structures that hold the uterus in place.
414018 tn?1268611672 I am surprised that with a reoccurance and stage 3 (even of borderline OC) they did not do a complete hysterectomy (TAH/BSO, total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy, or removal of both ovaries). I was dx with stage 1a and go to Roswell Cancer Center and when I was there did some reading as follows: They recommend TAH/BSO and "aggressive cytoreductive surgery. Patients with stage 3 and 4 disease with no gross residual disease have had a 100% survival rate".
Avatar f tn Although a TAH certainly reduces your risk, you still can get peritonial cancer and peritional cancer is pretty much always diagonsised stage 4. If you haven't you might want to talk to a gyn-onc about this decision first - I'm not sure what type of dr is recommending the TAH. Some women don't have many problems with menapause after a TAH even without hormones, but each women is different.
Avatar f tn I've never heard of anyone having their cervix left in after a TAH...certainly not after a diagnosis of stage 3c ovarian cancer. It's actually not a TAH if your cervix is still there...it's a partial hysterectomy. I hope it will be to your benefit in the end...I've never heard of IP therapy causing leaking. I guess there's a first for everything! Glad to hear your doing well...

351724 tn?1267537018 can you still have a hysterectomy done if you get your period at the time of your hysterectomy ?
1069952 tn?1301260054 You might get better answers regarding life after TAH on the hysterectomy forum, but first it is important to determine if that much surgery is even necessary.
Avatar m tn I am almost 18 months post op TAH. For the past 6 months, I have had brain fog, very little energy, anxiety, depression, etc., Do you think this is due to no HRT of any kind? As far as physically feeling bad, I don't. Its seems to be all mental. It's also very hard to lose weight. Any suggestions, answers, anything????? All comments welcome! Thanks bunches! Another hyster~sister!
Avatar m tn My mom had TAH and after 6 months she started getting a pale pink discharge. The doctors said she had fibroid which became cancerous so they had to perform the hysterectomy, something called lyeomyosarcoma. The doctor checked her in the clinic after 6 months and she had a blood clot the size of a fist that came out straight after the doctors examination. Looked like a dark jelly. The doctors said its a growth again.
Avatar f tn There are many reasons why a woman might have irregular vaginal bleeding after a total hysterectomy. Most of these reasons have nothing to do with the operation. Many of them can be considered serious, and should be checked by a doctor as soon as possible. One reason for this to happen might be a bladder infection. While not critical in it, untreated it could become very serious. Some forms of cancer will also cause this bleeding and need to be dealt with at once.
591421 tn?1219072704 Three weeks ago, I had a partial abdominal hysterectomy. The pain is EXCRUCIATING!!! The pain radiates from the left side of my abdomen to just below my belly button. I try to get out of bed, I'm doubling over in pain and I'm practically fainting from the pain whenever I stand. I've taken pain medication, however, my medicine makes me constipated. I have to take Senokot. My concerns are having to constantly take medication for bowel movement.
Avatar n tn Hello, I posted here about a week ago.I'm 38 and I found out my OB/GYN is doing a TAH/Oopherectomy. He said with all the severe problems this was the only way to go. I have had my periods every 2 weeks for almost 2 years now. about 5 months ago they started getting really painful and its just gotten worse. I have been tested for just about everything. He did say I could have tested false/positive. Since my family history of uterine cancer and endometriosis.

Avatar f tn The lower back pain could be from the cyst or the anatomical / skeletal changes caused by the severing of uterine ligaments during hysterectomy. I am 9 years post- hysterectomy and have occasional back (and hip) pain.
Avatar f tn Could you please tell me is there any fatal risk in doing the TAH surgery? How can I prepare myself for safe and sound TAH surgery? Your kind comments will help me in preparing for the surgery. By the by the hospital I have chowsen to do the surgery is a Tertiary level hospital, which has ICU, CCU and modern OT. Waiting for your earliest reply. Thanks in anticipation.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much for your response. A TAH is a total abdominal hysterectomy. The only part left is my ovary. I love your suggestions! I would have never thought to bring a recorder with me to play back the conversations. I will definitely keep reading as much as I can in order to educate myself in order to make the best decision all around. Thank you for your kind words. I will keep you in my thoughts also.
Avatar n tn After removing the uterus (TAH = total abdominal hysterectomy), pelvic ultrasound are not as accurate at interpreting structures in the pelvis. Ca 125 is a great indicator for activity of endometriosis. If the pathology report does not say anything about a malignancy, it is unlikely that that is what you are facing.
Avatar n tn Altthough the Lupron shot did cease my pevlice pain, once off for a month the pain returned and is constant. My Dr. is recommending a total hysterectomy and I am not sure what to do or if there are any other options. Your opinion and recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I am a 49 year old female and I've had a partial hysterectomy in May of 07...removal of the uterus only. To this day I continue to have pelvic pain and after numerous ultrasounds the diagnosis is bilateral hydrosalpinges. My GYN suggested having surgery by making a 3-6 inch incision in my abdomen and removing the tubes and or ovaries. He suggested doing the surgery that way due to alot of scar tissue build up after the hysterectomy...
Avatar m tn With radical surgery the uterus (hysterectomy) and ovaries (oophorectomy) are removed. After hysterectomy alone (i.e. without removal of the ovaries), there is a significant chance that endometriosis will recur; 10-15% of women had recurrence after 1-3 years and 40-50% after 5 years. The more severe the endometriosis the more likely it is to recur. The chance of recurrence is much smaller if the ovaries are also removed at the time of hysterectomy, but this makes a woman menopausal.
Avatar n tn I had a total adominal hysterectomy 14 months ago. Ovaries, Uterus, cervix, all gone. Every once in awhile when I wipe, I have blood and pelvic bone pain. I am not sextually active, not that I don't have the urge, my husband can't. So, what is it? Normal or no. Thanks. Oh, I'm 52 if that has any bearing on the answer.
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy due to endometriosis. Everything was great for 6 months after the hysterectomy. Then at about the 6 1/2 months late I started getting pains on my left side. I went back to the dr who told me he could not see any reason for the pain. One night I had a pain hit me that was so bad that it made have my 9 lbs son feel like a walk in the park. I went back to the dr who once again could not find anything wrong. I then went to another dr for a 2ND opinion.
