Hysterectomy recovery risks

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy recovery risks

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn My doctor suggested I might want to consider having a hysterectomy at the same time. I am trying to find out the benefits or the risks of also having the hysterectomy. I know the recoup time may be longer - but are there other reasons not to have the hysterectomy also?
Avatar n tn My doctor suggested that I have the rectocele surgery repair. I'm hesitating because I've heard horror stories about the recovery and pain afterwards (from other posting sites and my Mom as well who had the surgery 15 years ago). I've been navigating this site and it seems like people here are not spreading fear. Just how bad was the surgery and post op? Thanks.
Avatar f tn feeding any remaining endo implants against the increased health risks and reduced quality of life associated with ovary removal. The risks of ovary removal can be found in studies by doing a web search for something like "bilateral oophorectomy long term health." Some doctors recommend a combined form of HRT (estrogen plus progesterone or progestin) post-hysterectomy for women with endo to keep remaining endo implants "under control.
Avatar n tn I am a post hysterectomy. I recenlty had an ultrasound due to pain on my left side. And my results said I have two simple cysts on my left ovary and complex cystic mass on the same side. It says it may represent an endometrioma, or a possibly a cystic neoplasm. My question is what are some of the procedures that can be done to remove the mass and cysts? And does smoking increase the risks of them growing in size?
Avatar f tn I'm having a partial hysterectomy done laproscopically in January due to Adenomyosis. Can anyone offer any advice for pre-surgery preparation and post-surgery recovery?
Avatar f tn I would appreciate any advise or recommendations you have about hormone therapy concerns and any info you can share to prepare me for the hysterectomy. I have no idea how long recovery would be. Thanks Much!
Avatar n tn It takes several weeks for your body to heal after a hysterectomy so it's best to follow the Drs orders. Take things slow and get plenty of rest.
Avatar f tn It's easier to get infections while on tx, particularly as tx goes on. So you have higher risks with surgery and it could be that the people administering the study don't want those risks. You would have to talk to your tx'ing doc. I did have a few minor procedures, pic lines, port-o-caths, etc while on tx. But I also had probs with infections during the last couple months of tx.
Avatar n tn Without the side effects of hormones or the risks of hysterectomy, NovaSure has a quick recovery time so you can get back to your life sooner. Most women experience no pain after the procedure, and can return to work and regular activities the next day. i looked it up.
Avatar f tn Tiredness was my worst symptom!! But you defintely need to take it easy..unfortunately I had 3 surgeries 2 with the hysterectomy and 1 a week later but my incision took 8-10 weeks to heal...the norm is 4-6 but I know the insides need to heal alot longer..just when you feel good and do too much than you realize your quite not there yet..so please take this time to recover rather than end up doing something that can cause more damage..the Doctor will give you the clearance to exercise again..
Avatar m tn A lot of women prefer to keep their cervix as they believe it helps in achieving sexual satisfaction although this is open to debate with many doctors saying it has no effect. This type of hysterectomy is easier to perform with quicker recovery as less tissue is being removed. If your cervix is left behind you will still need to have pap smears. Leaving your ovaries behind is also beneficial as you will not experience an instant menopause.
Avatar n tn My uterus is completely fixed and all of the doctors are giving me the same options. At this point, I am considering the Hysterectomy as a chance for freedom. To be free of the pain associated with everyday tasks: bending, lifting, going to the bathroom, walking down stairs, eating, etc. My mother had her uterus removed at 35 due to cancer. Having it removed would ensure that I don't follow in her footsteps. I just don't know what else to do.

Avatar n tn I have been told my best option now is a partial hysterectomy (removal of uterus and I think the cervix but not the ovaries) but after doing some reading I am now very concerned about the possible long term heath issues such as pelvic organ prolapse, reduced size of vagina, urinary incontinence, bowel dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, weight gain etc.
Avatar f tn I am a hysterectomy in less than 2 weeks I'm a bit nervous they said I can't cook cleaner Drive a while you're taking a cervix uterous tubes out I'm going to try to keep one or both ovaries my question to you ladies hats had one before how was your recovery time and your pain and is there anything that I need to know or to take to the hospital with
1809377 tn?1316520328 I am seeing my GYN tomorrow to make an apt to have a partial hysterectomy. I have seen a lot of the posts out there, but I would like to know what I can experiece post up... recovery time... discomforts... how long will it take for my body to get back to my new normal self, how long it will take for me to have sex again (it's been over 5 months)!!!
Avatar f tn Removing ovaries is not a hysterectomy...it's an oophortectomy. Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus. I'm not sure exactly what your doctor is recommending, what tests were performed, or what the surgery recommendation is based upon. Ovaries can be removed laparoscopically by small incisions or by open incision (laparotomy).
Avatar n tn There are other reasons not to have a hysterectomy beyond not wanting any more children. These organs do play a part in your total health and you don't want to part with them unless necessary, especially at your age. I'm surprised you have to wait so long for your results. Usually it is only a few days. Do ask your doctor for something to help with the pain. You don't need to live with this.
Avatar f tn I had a partial hysterectomy just under 3 weeks ago, and i was just wondering how much walking is too much? I am only going for short walks at the moment, but feel i would be able to go for longer walks, but am afraid i might push myself too hard. any advice would be helpful, thanks.
1027161 tn?1252001428 hiya, i have had quite a colourfull medical history, and am going in for a laproscopic hysterectomy next week and i am feeling quite fearfull, having 3 young children i am hoping for a speedy recovery, has anyone else had the surgery done in this way and how was it,,removal of the womb, ovaries, falopian tubes and cervix.
Avatar n tn a hysterectomy should always be done as a last choice not as a method of birth control, You should wait until your leep diagnosis and then discuss this further with your surgeon a hysterectomy is MAJOR surgery with risks. the recovery is difficult. resurch this well and get atleast 2 informed opinions.
Avatar m tn I had a partial hysterectomy 3 years ago. They had to remove it due to large masses and endometrosis. My question is that my left side feels good but the right side is very painful and can't stand to move. Why would one side hurt worse than the other. They also put me on a hormone patch called Climara. Has anyone taken this and is it good.
1510783 tn?1290096307 I am scheduled to have a partial Hysterctomy because I've been diagnosed with Andemyosis. on December 15th (just my uterus will be removed, so far). What can I expect in regards to pain, recovery time and emotions. I've had my tubes tied for 4 years so I am fine about not having any more children. My doctor is not sure if she has to cut me or go vaginally. I am a little nervous and scared about this major procedure. Any feeback would be greatly appreciated. I am 38 years old.
Avatar f tn I have a family history of RA, so that is a concern too. Given these risks, would you advise surgery (hysterectomy/bilateral oopherectomy) over hormonal therapy as a treatment strategy? I'd really appreciate your help as I try to arrive at a decision.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever had a hysterectomy that started out laparoscopic then went to abdominal? Do you have any advice for recovery ? Tips? Heads up?
Avatar f tn I am going into hospital for a hysterectomy next Tuesday and am so scared about not only what is going to happen but also what they are going to find. Basically I have an enlarged ovary and have been told I could have cancer but they cant be sure until they take it out and test it. They are treating it as cancer until it is proved otherwise. This has me in a right old panic and I am convinced it must be cancer if this is how they are treating it.
Avatar f tn I just wondered about others experiences of ovarian cysts and hysterectomy were. Has anyone had to choose between cystectomy and hysterectomy? I have cysts on both ovaries, one is 3.6 cm and the other a bouncing 17x15x11cm. They want to do a hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo oopherectomy. Looking at the posts it seems many other women have had cystectomies.
Avatar f tn I had an abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo oopherectomy. Cancer was detected and some lymph nodes were also removed along with omemtum. Luckily it was in its early stages and the pathology results show that the Cancer hadn't spread therefore I wont need any chemotherapy. this is the best news ever! I'm now at home and recovering slowly. Has anyone gone through this type of surgery? How long did it take to recover? I'm 38 and have no children.
