Hysterectomy recovery ovarian cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy recovery ovarian cancer

hysterectomy

Avatar m tn I am having surgery in 4 days because of a 14 cm multicomplex cyst on my left ovary which had thick walls and three compartments. I have been in a lot of pain and before the mri ultrasounds had shown that there were only 3 cysts. I am terrified because the doctor had me sign surgical consent to a hysterectomy if necessary meaning that if the cyst was cancerous he would have to perform a hysterectomy. I am only 20 and have always wanted kids.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had ovarian AND uterine cancer, at the same time. Boy, I wish I'd had a hysterectomy younger! If it were me, I'd have my uterus removed in a jiffy. Recovery really isn't bad at all.
454026 tn?1236881142 Hi, I'm new to the board. I'm 56 and had a hysterectomy in 1990. My ovaries were not removed.I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in Feb. I had major surgery Feb.29th.I'm in stage 3.My doctor told me I had this for only 7 months. I'm going to start chemo next month.I'm so scared. Is there a good chance for recovery? What is the survivor rate?
Avatar f tn That is not accurate in diagnosing or predicting risk of ovarian cancer. Hysterectomy and oophorectomy are the most overused surgeries (along with c-section). Only 2% are done for confirmed cancer. 76% do not meet ACOG criteria. So it can be hard to find a gynecologist who is not quick to remove organs. Please make sure you understand the life-long functions of the female organs before going into an operating room. Maybe removal of just the cyst will give you a lot of relief from this pain.
1100598 tn?1413127426 I saw a Gyn and he suggests at least the removal of both ovaries and the tubes to help prevent ovarian cancer. He said that a full hysterectomy is not as necessary. But down the road, there is a chance of getting uterine or cervical cancer. I don't really want to have either surgery, but I refuse to go through chemo again. So now I don't know which surgery to have. The full hysterectomy or have just the tubes and ovaries removed?
Avatar f tn I was called names, told I would be castrated, my life would be over, I would be stupid, and anyone that says they are happy after one is lying, I even saw one post where a woman had ovarian cancer and they told her to not get a hysterectomy the Drs. were lying... I have put off the hysterectomy because of it, it terrified me. I've cried and prayed and I am so confused and am happy to hear women that just want to help and give what could happen, what could help, etc. thank you.
Avatar n tn My main reason is to get the hysto is to get rid of the possibility of ovarian cancer now or in the future because I know that it is not easily curable. Is there any link with endometriosis and ovarian cancer?
1483640 tn?1383389371 Found several fibroids and the mass on my ovary. now getting ready for complete hysterectomy. I am worried aabout ovarian cancer. I have looked up the symtoms of ovarian cancer and it is scary. I have them all.
Avatar n tn Met with specialist last Friday and they are recommending complete hysterectomy based on my history of breast cancer, mom and sis died of colon cancer, aunt with uterine cancer...LOTS of cancer in family. They ran another CA125, and it came back normal - 14.5. Evidently, being on tamoxifen puts me at risk for uterine cancer. In your opinion, is it reasonable to consent to a full hysterectomy, especially if I just have a simple cyst which is what it appears to be?
Avatar f tn There is, however, one thing that makes me willing to seriously consider surgery, and that is the increased risk of ovarian cancer in women with endometriosis. And according to a recent European study, endometriosis increases the risk of some other cancers as well. I have also read that endometriosis increases the risk of certain autoimmune conditions (though that connection doesn't seem to be one that's made as often). I have a family history of RA, so that is a concern too.
Avatar n tn Depends on the reason for a hysterectomy. The ovaries are usually left because it delays menopause but if cancer is involved then ovaries will also be removed.
Avatar m tn A consultation followed with a gynaecologist who explained that the ca125 test results show the tumour marker to be 11 and so it is unlikely to be cancer but they cannot rule it out. She explained that I need to have it removed as a whole without rupture, because if it does contain cancer she doesn't want it to spread. She also explained that she would like to remove my other ovary and womb to stop the spread of any possible cancer.
Avatar f tn If she has ovarian cancer, this will probably mean a hysterectomy and removal of any other cancer that they might find. The ususal recovery period is pretty much the same as for any other surgey, roughly 6 weeks. With a good surgeon (make sure that it is a gynecological oncologist if it is in fact ovarian cancer) the chances are very small that it would help the cancer progress. Please take a list of these and other questions with you and go tohe Dr with your mom.
Avatar n tn if u have afamily history of ovarian cancer I agree if you do getis surgery have thevaries out.
Avatar f tn I had DaVinci robotic surgery for my radical hysterectomy, removal of omentum and all abdominal lymph nodes (due to ovarian cancer.) Surgery is never fun, but everything went smoothly. Only six small (1 inch) incisions. Don't be afraid of a new tool. The idea is to do the job in the least invasive way possible. If your doctor is afraid of new technology, get a second opinion. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn The pathology report returned with the endometrial ovarian cancer 1.1, graded 1c. No mets noticed. Surgeon sugested the total hysterectomy with uterus, left ovary and tube, lymphnodes and abdominal fat removal. Very emotional. can somebody gime me advise what to do?
Avatar n tn Paraovarian cysts arise from the tissues of the broad ligament, predominantly from mesothelium covering the peritoneum but also from paramesonephric and rarely mesonephric remnants (mesonephric cyst or Wolffian cyst). There are few types for this problem....
Avatar m tn My Mother had cervical cancer when I was young and has been fine for years BUT two years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer and went through treatments and then they found ovarian cancer which has spread and she is not doing well and has stopped treatments. My doctor, who I trust and who did my last surgery, recommends a hysterectomy for me with my problems and Mothers history. I have heard horror stories about it and the homorne therapy decision.
Avatar f tn A cyst of that size will need to be removed. Do insist that they rule out ovarian cancer. It is very unlikely you do but if they feel there is any chance then they should have a gyn/onc prepared to step in during your surgery. Unless you have a lot of adhesions from previous surgeries or they consider the cyst suspicious, you can likely have it removed via laporascopy. This will shorten your recovery time. Do ask them to run a CA-125 test.
Avatar f tn had , had tons of female troubles and thought take em then I will not have to worry about cysts or ovarian cancer,,,,which must be found very very early to be hopefull for a full recovery.
Avatar f tn I had a CT Scan for these problems and it showed a cystic mass on my ovary so I had to go to my Gyn and had a Pelvic Sonogram. I have read that sometimes Ovarian Cancer can have the same symptoms as these other problems. Is that true? Also, what is your interpertation of the following results from my ultrasound. Status: Post Hysterctomy & Left Oophorectomy (this was done in 2006 for problems with very heavy bleeding and cysts on my left ovary) Right ovary measures 5 by 8.
Avatar f tn ask your dr for a blood test now called CA125 it is a ovarian cancer marker, odds are in your favor that it is not cancer likely reoccurance of cysts, which are very painful.
1861034 tn?1323733552 i was dagnosed with a 13 cm cyst and my ob/gyn want to do a total hysterectomy, i am 39 years old my childbearing days are over. but i suffer from panic disorder. and this scares me.
Avatar m tn Hi, I'm sorry, but you raised a few questions in my mind. You said that through an ultrasound your doctor found cysts on both ovaries, and you're bleeding post menopause. You also mentioned that you had a CT scan, what did that show? Is your doctor a general surgeon,or a GYN, and why wouldn't he refer you to a GYN/ONC Surgeon, rather than possibly consult with one?
