Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy recovery children

hysterectomy

733437 tn?1232182023 I am not to sure about anything on what exactly a hysterectomy calls for, but Im sure that I dont want kids/babies EVER. So I was wondering if it is healthy for someone who is 18 to have a a hysterectomy, or is there other ways to becoming sterilized?
Avatar n tn It does sound like it would be the best solution. I can see what the doctor means. If they leave the ovaries, at least you wouldn't experience surgical menopause, which can be a bit brutal. But you would say goodbye to your womb. How do you feel about that? It might be a good idea, for the sake of your general health. Fibroids naturally shrink after menopause, and often cause no more trouble, but with the kidney involvement, I would say it's best to have the surgery.
Avatar f tn Oops...by past having children hahaha I meant you do not want any more? Obviously you are still pre menopausal.....just to clarify.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone. Recently I was diagnosed with endocervical adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS). I had a leep procedure and that's how it was discovered. I'm now scheduled to have a laparoscopic hysterectomy. I get to keep my ovaries. I'm 31, no children and I don't want any so that's not a problem for me. But I'm still struggling. I'm scared to have the hysterectomy because the recovery process seems so long and painful and one of my biggest fears is pain.
Avatar n tn My doctor suggested that I have the rectocele surgery repair. I'm hesitating because I've heard horror stories about the recovery and pain afterwards (from other posting sites and my Mom as well who had the surgery 15 years ago). I've been navigating this site and it seems like people here are not spreading fear. Just how bad was the surgery and post op? Thanks.
1510783 tn?1290096307 I am scheduled to have a partial Hysterctomy because I've been diagnosed with Andemyosis. on December 15th (just my uterus will be removed, so far). What can I expect in regards to pain, recovery time and emotions. I've had my tubes tied for 4 years so I am fine about not having any more children. My doctor is not sure if she has to cut me or go vaginally. I am a little nervous and scared about this major procedure. Any feeback would be greatly appreciated. I am 38 years old.
Avatar n tn It takes several weeks for your body to heal after a hysterectomy so it's best to follow the Drs orders. Take things slow and get plenty of rest.
Avatar n tn My uterus is completely fixed and all of the doctors are giving me the same options. At this point, I am considering the Hysterectomy as a chance for freedom. To be free of the pain associated with everyday tasks: bending, lifting, going to the bathroom, walking down stairs, eating, etc. My mother had her uterus removed at 35 due to cancer. Having it removed would ensure that I don't follow in her footsteps. I just don't know what else to do.
Avatar f tn Tiredness was my worst symptom!! But you defintely need to take it easy..unfortunately I had 3 surgeries 2 with the hysterectomy and 1 a week later but my incision took 8-10 weeks to heal...the norm is 4-6 but I know the insides need to heal alot longer..just when you feel good and do too much than you realize your quite not there yet..so please take this time to recover rather than end up doing something that can cause more damage..the Doctor will give you the clearance to exercise again..
285896 tn?1237211227 My vote is for the total hysterectomy. If you KNOW in your heart that you are 100% done having children, go for it. You won't be miserable anymore! And why pay for multiple surgeries if you end up having to do it in the future? Plus all the recovery time of multiple surgeries. This is coming from a woman who usually does not tell women to do this. But I really feel like it's going to be okay for you!
Avatar f tn I have experienced heavy bleeding with clots for 5 plus years and it is getting worse. My periods are regular, but very heavy. Last period was different however, only two days long. Pain and cramps worsening, as well as radiating pain down left leg, that feels like leg is heating up from the inside. Transvaginal ultrasound showed a thick uterus during 3rd day of period and exam showed uterus has moved to left side of abdomen. I often suffer from low back pain and pressure in lower abdomen.
Avatar n tn There are other reasons not to have a hysterectomy beyond not wanting any more children. These organs do play a part in your total health and you don't want to part with them unless necessary, especially at your age. I'm surprised you have to wait so long for your results. Usually it is only a few days. Do ask your doctor for something to help with the pain. You don't need to live with this.
Avatar n tn I am scheduled to have it removed laproscopically on the 17th. If is is cancerous they will do a full hysterectomy, node removal, omentectomy etc. The idea of waking up to the news of not only cancer, but losing my womanhood and all chances of having children terrifies me. I know that most cysts are not cancerous, but I have a very strong family history of gyn cancers, so that knowledge doesn't soothe me.
Avatar f tn Removing ovaries is not a hysterectomy...it's an oophortectomy. Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus. I'm not sure exactly what your doctor is recommending, what tests were performed, or what the surgery recommendation is based upon. Ovaries can be removed laparoscopically by small incisions or by open incision (laparotomy).
Avatar f tn I was offered a hysterectomy for this problem last July but declined as we wanted to complete our family (had loop diathermy instead). Now I need to decide wheter to go for a hysterectomy and remove the other ovary or be closely monitored. I could even try for another baby if I get a clear smear test (had one taken on Thursday) an abodominal stitch put in to help hold the pregnancy in place.
Avatar f tn I had a partial hysterectomy just under 3 weeks ago, and i was just wondering how much walking is too much? I am only going for short walks at the moment, but feel i would be able to go for longer walks, but am afraid i might push myself too hard. any advice would be helpful, thanks.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I am scheduled to have open abdominal surgery in a couple of weeks to remove a large fibroid. I had been miserable for months and finally when I went to the doctor they found I had a large mass on the outside of my uterus and was anaemic. They explained that often drugs will shrink the fibroid, or they can be removed laparoscopically (sp?) but with the position and size, mine has to be open surgery- a myomectomy.
1027161 tn?1252001428 hiya, i have had quite a colourfull medical history, and am going in for a laproscopic hysterectomy next week and i am feeling quite fearfull, having 3 young children i am hoping for a speedy recovery, has anyone else had the surgery done in this way and how was it,,removal of the womb, ovaries, falopian tubes and cervix.
314833 tn?1263259499 s been decided that I should have a total hysterectomy...I am torn about how I feel about it and my mind keeps racing. Things I need to do before the surgery, What to expect... Has anyone here had one and anything I should know...I know there is the hysterectomy forum but i just looking for those who had this done and anything I should have at home once I have the surgery...
686473 tn?1227017574 In regards to a hysterectomy, having HPV or dysplasia does not necessarily mean that a future hysterectomy will be likely. As I mentioned above, for most (90-95%) women a LEEP or cone biopsy can be completely curative, if there is a recurrence it can still be treated with another LEEP, cone biopsy or possibly laser or cyrotherapy, etc. - even with early stage cervical cancer (stage 1A, 1B) women can sometimes choose a trachelectomy over a hysterectomy.
717440 tn?1292743742 I got an abdominal hysterectomy which involves a longer recovery time; I was off work for 12 weeks only because my work involved lifting; I am an RN. My ovaries were not removed. Pain was really the only issue after surgery, but it was not terrible. During surgery, well, I was out and experienced no complications. Months later, I noticed I gained quite a bit of weight. I never really had a weight problem until I had my hyster. I have to work hard to keep it off.
Avatar f tn 5) Any ideas how long the recovery period will be? My wife is a house wife - but she collectes my children after school and takes them to various classes in the evening. Any ideas / suggestions / opinions would be very much welcome. Thanks and Regards S.
Avatar f tn I'm a 67 year old woman with two children who it's eleven days post op with a hysterectomy, ovary and tube removal, and a sacrocolpopexy through the davinci robotic laparoscopic method. I returned to work yesterday as an accountant and worked for six hours. Lots of abdominal discomfort last night, some pressure, and what appeared to be some blood in my urine (pinkish color). My family thinks I'm pushing it. What do you think.
Avatar f tn I'm having a partial hysterectomy done laproscopically in January due to Adenomyosis. Can anyone offer any advice for pre-surgery preparation and post-surgery recovery?
