Hysterectomy recovery care

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy recovery care

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn My doctor suggested that I have the rectocele surgery repair. I'm hesitating because I've heard horror stories about the recovery and pain afterwards (from other posting sites and my Mom as well who had the surgery 15 years ago). I've been navigating this site and it seems like people here are not spreading fear. Just how bad was the surgery and post op? Thanks.
Avatar f tn I'm 44, single no kids, live alone, and scheduled to have a full hysterectomy in the next two weeks. Some dear friends have offered for me to stay with them when I get out of the hospital for as long as I need. Does anyone have any thoughts on how long I might want to do this? I'd like to be in the comfort of my own home as soon as possible, but don't want to push it.
1510783 tn?1290096307 I am scheduled to have a partial Hysterctomy because I've been diagnosed with Andemyosis. on December 15th (just my uterus will be removed, so far). What can I expect in regards to pain, recovery time and emotions. I've had my tubes tied for 4 years so I am fine about not having any more children. My doctor is not sure if she has to cut me or go vaginally. I am a little nervous and scared about this major procedure. Any feeback would be greatly appreciated. I am 38 years old.
Avatar n tn It takes several weeks for your body to heal after a hysterectomy so it's best to follow the Drs orders. Take things slow and get plenty of rest.
Avatar f tn Tiredness was my worst symptom!! But you defintely need to take it easy..unfortunately I had 3 surgeries 2 with the hysterectomy and 1 a week later but my incision took 8-10 weeks to heal...the norm is 4-6 but I know the insides need to heal alot longer..just when you feel good and do too much than you realize your quite not there yet..so please take this time to recover rather than end up doing something that can cause more damage..the Doctor will give you the clearance to exercise again..
Avatar m tn However the final diagnosis can be made only at the time of surgery by direct visualisation and with the help of frozen section. The recovery from exploratory laparotomy may take 8 to 10 days. Recovery is usually good. Hence let us hope for the best. Take care and good luck.
566073 tn?1219434819 I had a horizontal incision, bikini to belly button only 7 wks ago, this was to remove large oc tumour I am being reopened on the same scar for my full hysterectomy, is this going to be heaps worse?????
Avatar f tn I am 27, and am having a bilateral ovary removal and radical hysterectomy in a few weeks. (Due to various problems but mainly huge production of testosterone.Possible tumor unseen by testing) Anyway, I would like to know all of the ins and outs of post op recovery and etc. I am already on estrogen since I don't produce much. I recently (8-12 weeks ago) had my appendix removed laproscopically (sp?) will the pain be like that pain??? I am a stay at home mom to a HYPER!! ADHD 4 year old son.
Avatar f tn Removing ovaries is not a hysterectomy...it's an oophortectomy. Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus. I'm not sure exactly what your doctor is recommending, what tests were performed, or what the surgery recommendation is based upon. Ovaries can be removed laparoscopically by small incisions or by open incision (laparotomy).
Avatar f tn I had a partial hysterectomy just under 3 weeks ago, and i was just wondering how much walking is too much? I am only going for short walks at the moment, but feel i would be able to go for longer walks, but am afraid i might push myself too hard. any advice would be helpful, thanks.
Avatar f tn I'm having a partial hysterectomy done laproscopically in January due to Adenomyosis. Can anyone offer any advice for pre-surgery preparation and post-surgery recovery?
Avatar n tn I am trying to find out the benefits or the risks of also having the hysterectomy. I know the recoup time may be longer - but are there other reasons not to have the hysterectomy also?
Avatar f tn I am having a Robotic Hysterectomy and I'm wondering how succesful it is and approximately what is the recovery time ?

1149921 tn?1297559913 Hi all women who have a hysterectomy go immediatley into a surgically induced menopause/ as the others have said are you certain its fibtoids? could be enlarged uterus , puts pressue on bladder also your friends are correct fibroids can be treated with out hyster..if you can at all avoid hysterectomy do so. its a very difficult operation. hard recovery. but then you do get better, likely will have issues w hormones the way fibroids are remove is called emobilization.
Avatar m tn I had a vaginal hysterectomy 8 years ago was great for me and I had a quick recovery. Surgeries change throughout the years. Laparoscopic surgery is great as well as the healing time is much quicker. Myself, I would go laparoscopic as it is a much faster recovery as I stated before. But I would definite talk to you gyn first. Good luck.
Avatar f tn If I have a hysterectomy, seeing how I had my tubes cut and they remove my uterus will I still have monthly periods? Also, we are going on a cruise in Oct, will I be complete healed by then? Thanks for your time.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had there ovaries removed with there hysterectomy? If so, how do you feel emotionally with menopause and do you know how long menopause lasts?
Avatar f tn Here is what a friend of mine said, "If I had known how much better I was going to feel, I would have had the hysterectomy years ago." Don't worry, they will take good care of you in the OR and after. Ask them to put something in your drip or to give you a patch, to keep you from getting nausea. That was my only problem after any surgery, that plus wanting to sleep longer than the recovery room nurses wanted to let me sleep (when I had day surgery.
Avatar m tn If I still need to do some that it will be a laparoscopic hysterectomy recovery time is 2 weeks versus abdominal hysterectomy 8-10 weeks recovery time. God Bless you both and anyone else that's going through this!
Avatar f tn Hi, I had emergency c-section last Saturday night, they used glue on me. I was prescribed pain killers but I'm still in pain. I feel heavy & sore around the incision. When does it get better? I can't stand this pain while taking care of newborn & lack of sleep mix together. When does it stop hurting?
Avatar n tn Has anyone had the DiVinci machine for a hysterectomy? How long was recovery? How did it go?
Avatar f tn C section is scheduled for August 7th; however, due to the location of my fibroids I may have to have an emergency hysterectomy...is anyone else in a similar situation? Does anyone know anything about how that might impact recovery? Pregnancy has been basically perfect and baby is doing great otherwise!!
