Hysterectomy recovery bowel problems

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy recovery bowel problems

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn also im having bowel problems ie i get crampy/colicy stomach pains followed by loose movements, sorry not nice i know.
Avatar n tn My doctor suggested that I have the rectocele surgery repair. I'm hesitating because I've heard horror stories about the recovery and pain afterwards (from other posting sites and my Mom as well who had the surgery 15 years ago). I've been navigating this site and it seems like people here are not spreading fear. Just how bad was the surgery and post op? Thanks.
Avatar m tn I am not sure what my damages were/are but I have had bowel issues ever since my hysterectomy (severe diarrhea for many months post-op). My surgery was not da Vinci though. It appears that the da Vinci is more likely to cause harm than other methods. A friend who was damaged by da Vinci said reports of damages by the robot have increased significantly. Surgical recovery from hysterectomy (absent surgical damage) takes 6 months to a year.
Avatar f tn i had a hysterectomy 7 years ago and 1week after surgery my stomach broke open they did not put a drainage tube inwhen had operation they reopened me in the doctors surgery and took a swob found septisiemia.thenleft site opened had five more operations on hysterectomy site to remove septis and left me opened each time to heal inside out i am still interriable crippling pain bloat like i am 6\7 months pregnant.
Avatar f tn t have trouble with until i had the hysterectomy. it was suppose to make me better ,but instead caused new problems that i didnt need.
Avatar f tn I'm not certain what all you already know, or what you need to know, so here's my simple "hysterectomy lecture" for future readers. :-) The word "hysterectomy" actually refers only to removal of the uterus. The cervix is usually removed as well, and that entire procedure is called a total hysterectomy. There are two ways to do the surgery.
Avatar f tn I'm surprised your doctor released you to go back to work after just 2 weeks. Hysterectomy is major surgery with recovery typically 6-8 weeks but definitely AT LEAST 4 weeks. But I've seen it before - women told they can return to desk jobs 1 or 2 weeks after surgery which should NOT be happening. There is so much cutting done internally so it's not about the size and number of incisions (e.g.
Avatar f tn s possible too it could be your bowel as the bowel is displaced when the uterus is removed and can cause problems.
1100598 tn?1413127426 The risk of these changes tends to increase as the years progress since the bladder and bowel fall after hysterectomy. Adhesions (scar tissue) can further hamper bowel function even to the point of obstruction. The alignment of the spine, hips, and rib cage also change since the uterine ligaments are the pelvis' support structures. That is why the figure changes after hysterectomy and many women complain of back, hip, and rib cage pain as the years progress.
Avatar n tn I have uterine cancer that has spread to the bowel, but I had a total hysterectomy 7 years ago. I was told that I probably still had endometrosis after the surgery and it has progressed to cancer. Can endo become cancerous? I was also given estrogen therapy after the hyster would this have made it worse?
Avatar f tn Hysterectomy alters the position of the bowels which can cause problems including altering blood flow to bowel sections even leading to tissue death. Another fairly common problem is adhesions from the surgery that can cause partial or full bowel obstruction. And even without obstruction, many women suffer from constipation after hysterectomy. My bowels have been "a mess" since my hysterectomy 8 years ago. With this cyst being so large (I had a 9.
Avatar n tn The treatment is is more surgery - hopefully laparscopic - but more surgery can lead to more adhesions, which puts you in a vicious circle of surgeries. Bowel adhesions are common after hysterectomy, and can cause terrible digestive problems by slowing transit time to the point of causing reflux, regurgitation or even a full bowel obstruction.
1930941 tn?1400107522 Unfortunately there were some complications. I had a lot of scar tissue from my hysterectomy and the surgery lasted 3 1/2 hours and the surgeon nicked my bowel. Because of the "nicking" which is really a laceration, I cant eat solid foods until next Tuesday, and pain and recovery time are worse. I just got home from the hospital, and feel like crap. My spirits are high, but so is the pain. Without much of a choice, I agree to take the pain meds at home. If I didn't, the Dr.
1710955 tn?1309446473 But I thought it was caused by taking estrogen. There is a link between bladder and bowel problems after hysterectomy since those organs are displaced after the uterus is removed. So it would seem possible that the gall bladder could be affected too. Although I don't have abdominal pain, my bowels have been messed up since my hysterectomy. A test showed fat malabsorption which may or may not be related to the gall bladder or pancreas.
Avatar f tn I had total hysterectomy 16 years ago I am now 56. I take monthly infusions of IVIG for low IGG immunoglobulin and very low IGA. I have heart disease, anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, arthritis, irritable bowel back issues, migraines basically been falling apart since 2007 when diagnosed with sarcoidosis. Which now has healed itself after oncologist ruled out cancer. Wondering if hormones could help?
Avatar m tn I had a hysterectomy 6 weeks ago, both uterus and ovaries. After about a month I was still having alot of pain, found out I had a bladder infection. Cured that up but am still have a great deal of bladder area pain. Its bad enough to have to take pain meds. I urinate normal and have normal bowel movements. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn I am going to have a hysterectomy in April. Right now fighting infection from ablation and perforation in uterus plus a surprise exploratory laprascopic. What can I expect? How do I prepare what happens day of surgery?
599170 tn?1300973893 Perhaps now I can find out why. Many of you report issues with bowel and bladder problems post hysterectomy also. Please stop by and check out Dr.Nichilsons forum for the three live days he shall be here.
Avatar f tn I have been in your shoes, I had a hysterectomy, already had problems with a ovarian cyst,,Dr refused to remove ovary. A year later ovary was so bad it was attached to my bowel with endometrosis tissue. Im not a dr, but I am going to make a educated guess and say it really sounds like a cyst,,all possibiltys must be told to all patients. Usually a ovarian absess is actually in the tube near the top where eggs are released. A hematoma is possible but less common.
1510783 tn?1290096307 usually you have a short hospital stay unless you have any health problems. i had to stay longer due to other health problems and a reaction to the anestesia. my pain wasnt as bad as everyone said it was going to be. i had a c-section in 92 so they went in through the same scar and did mine that way. like you i was nervous and we are about the same age.
Avatar f tn I just found out that I have a triple prolapse.. bladder, bowel and vaginal wall.. I knew it was one but not all three... I tried a pessary once and didn't like it but my gyn wants me to try a different one.. I don't know what I should do I am afraid to use the estrogen cream because of breast cancer in my family.. any suggestions would be appreciated ..also.
Avatar f tn s hard to know if the problems are from the repairs/sling or the hysterectomy. Hysterectomy causes the bladder and bowel to drop down which can cause problems with elimination. Constipation is common after hysterectomy due to the displacement of the bowel which of course can cause hemorrhoids. And as Dr. Wanjari mentioned, vaginal atrophy can cause pain with intercourse. But the shortening of the vagina with hysterectomy (with removal of cervix) can also be a source of pain.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed when I was 18 and have had 4 laporoscopic surgeries, a hyteroscopy, two miscarries and finally the hysterectomy. I had a lot of pain. I thought my problems would go away after the hysterectomy but I guess I was wrong. I am very blessed to have a daughter and son, very blessed. I had tried all types of birth control to help things and nothing worked.
