Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy recovery after

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn I am 12 days post-op from rectocele surgery and still having some discomfort with my stitches. How long should I expect this to continue? No blood flow anymore just a very little bit of discharge. This discussion is related to After rectocele surgery.
Avatar n tn It takes several weeks for your body to heal after a hysterectomy so it's best to follow the Drs orders. Take things slow and get plenty of rest.
Avatar f tn I would add that your body will let you know when you need to stop or slow down. After my hysterectomy, I found that it was the fatigue that got me first. You will notice that the time in between will get longer but it does take some time. Don't go off of the standard 4-6 weeks, either. If you are tired, you're tired. I pushed myself a little at a time and found as the weeks went on I could do more and more.
Avatar n tn thanku for your quick response i will take u advice and wait until six weeks is up yes i do feel great and to anyone else waiting to have a vaginal hysterectomy i just like to say i expected to feel alot more uncomfortable than i did after i had a huge fibrod remove as well i am 4 weeks after op and i do feet great but i have been resting at every opertunity good luck
Avatar f tn I am 2 weeks into recovery from a recrocele cystocele and Davinci hysterectomy and sacrocolpoplexy. Wondering if and when it is safe to start kegels or will it pull out the mesh?
1510783 tn?1290096307 I am scheduled to have a partial Hysterctomy because I've been diagnosed with Andemyosis. on December 15th (just my uterus will be removed, so far). What can I expect in regards to pain, recovery time and emotions. I've had my tubes tied for 4 years so I am fine about not having any more children. My doctor is not sure if she has to cut me or go vaginally. I am a little nervous and scared about this major procedure. Any feeback would be greatly appreciated. I am 38 years old.
Avatar f tn I bled for 6 months after my TVH (total vag. hysterectomy) everytime Dh and I had sex. Turns out I had ALOT of granulation tissue. I had to have silver nitrate treatments several times and the finally used some super numbing spray (I think they called it Hurricane spray) and clipped away a big piece of granulation tissue. That definately helped. Funny thing is, the last time I bled after sex I bled alot. But I haven't bled since and that was 1.5 yrs ago.
Avatar f tn Removing ovaries is not a hysterectomy...it's an oophortectomy. Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus. I'm not sure exactly what your doctor is recommending, what tests were performed, or what the surgery recommendation is based upon. Ovaries can be removed laparoscopically by small incisions or by open incision (laparotomy).
Avatar m tn Can you say why you need a hysterectomy? What kind of surgery are you having. Will it be a complete hysterectomy? Sorry for all the questions but the more we know the better we can help you. I did'nt gain any weight after my surgery. Make sure you eat well and exercise. You'll need 6 weeks of recovery time. That means no heavy lifting, no stairsno sex and plenty of rest. You may need hormones if you have hot flashes or mood swings, this is something you can discuss with your Dr.
Avatar m tn If I still need to do some that it will be a laparoscopic hysterectomy recovery time is 2 weeks versus abdominal hysterectomy 8-10 weeks recovery time. God Bless you both and anyone else that's going through this!
550018 tn?1264190965 t want to do it during the c-section due to the blood flow damaging the tissue sampling procedures). Worried about the increase in scar tissue and recovery period after these two surgeries so close together. Does recovery ever get any easier after 2nd/3rd abdominal surgery or do you find that it gets worse? Any input would be great.
1053613 tn?1255987994 Has anyone had their hysterectomy by robotics? Im having the robotics hysterectomy on Dec. 30 and was wondering how the recovery has been for someone who has that type of surgery.
1930941 tn?1400107522 Unfortunately there were some complications. I had a lot of scar tissue from my hysterectomy and the surgery lasted 3 1/2 hours and the surgeon nicked my bowel. Because of the "nicking" which is really a laceration, I cant eat solid foods until next Tuesday, and pain and recovery time are worse. I just got home from the hospital, and feel like crap. My spirits are high, but so is the pain. Without much of a choice, I agree to take the pain meds at home. If I didn't, the Dr.
746058 tn?1248344665 Well I had my hysterectomy July 13th. I fainted in the hospital 3 hrs after surgery and almost fainted again today, which is 8 days post op. I tried to go on a walk but it left me so weak and faint I could barely get to the house. I had to stop in my neighbors yard which I sat on a retaining wall in the lawn till my hubby brought the car over to drive me home. Luckily my 6 yr old son was there or i would have never gotten any help.
Avatar f tn I had a partial hysterectomy just under 3 weeks ago, and i was just wondering how much walking is too much? I am only going for short walks at the moment, but feel i would be able to go for longer walks, but am afraid i might push myself too hard. any advice would be helpful, thanks.
Avatar f tn My whole abdomen, hips, and back seem to be bloated or swollen. Is this normal after this amount of time? If so, how much longer can I expect this? Thank you.
Avatar n tn It does sound like it would be the best solution. I can see what the doctor means. If they leave the ovaries, at least you wouldn't experience surgical menopause, which can be a bit brutal. But you would say goodbye to your womb. How do you feel about that? It might be a good idea, for the sake of your general health. Fibroids naturally shrink after menopause, and often cause no more trouble, but with the kidney involvement, I would say it's best to have the surgery.
Avatar n tn I am so sorry this happened to you. I did not have an abscess but a number of other problems after having a hysterectomy (which should have never been done). I don't know much about abscesses but any abdominal infection can be serious. Hopefully, yours is under control and you are on the road to recovery. Did they remove the drain and bag yet? Please keep us posted.
Avatar f tn t wear anything but sweats periods. After a sonagram I am told I have a 2.7cm fibroid pushing against the lining of my uterus. And a polyp. I was going to do the novasure thing but because of the position of this fibroid the success rate decreased by more than I'm happy with. I do not want to continue being housebound for days at a time each month, she suggested a hysterectomy might be an answer. What can I expect?
Avatar m tn I had a hysterectomy 6 weeks ago, both uterus and ovaries. After about a month I was still having alot of pain, found out I had a bladder infection. Cured that up but am still have a great deal of bladder area pain. Its bad enough to have to take pain meds. I urinate normal and have normal bowel movements. Is this normal?
