Hysterectomy or ablation

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy or ablation

hysterectomy

10123610 tn?1408029225 It would be a shame to be left with the permanent side effects of ablation, hysterectomy, and/or ovary removal or ovarian failure caused by these surgeries when the symptoms could be managed with a more conservative approach. If you really want the fibroids removed, a surgeon with myomectomy skills (for large fibroids) or hysteroscopic resection of fibroids (for small fibroids) can remove the fibroids leaving your uterus intact.
Avatar f tn I had a tubal ligation in 2000, and an endometrial ablation in 2010. The ablation only partially worked. I have very light periods, but tremendous pain. My Dr recommends a total hysterectomy due to andometriosis. My maternial grandmother had uterine cancer and had a hysterectomy before 40. My mother and both sisters had cervical cancer - but no uterine or ovary issues. I am conflicted. Any advice? What will happen after?
Avatar m tn Hi ~ I had an ablation in 2008 due to heavy bleeding. After the ablation, I still had periods but not quite as heavy. They are now getting super heavy again and my uterus gets so enlarged before my period that it pushes on my bladder. I am going to get a partial hysterectomy next month. I am going to keep my ovaries so will not have to take hormones.
Avatar n tn HI there, thank you for your complete information. First of all, in a busy practice, sometimes it can take awhile to get a call. You could call them or make an appointment to go over your results. The ultrasound is not very abnormal however the biggest challenge is how to interpret the US and also your symptoms after an endometrial ablation.
Avatar f tn But because of the scarring, there is no way of knowing if the bleeding is caused by the ablation or by endometrial hyperplasia, particularly if hyperplasia was diagnosed prior to the ablation. At that point hysterectomy is needed. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar f tn my doctor has recommended laparoscopic hysterectomy. I had the uterine ablation procedure done 3 1/2 yrs ago but the irregular cycles and severe pain have returned. My doctor stated he would removed my right ovary for sure, as it is covered in scar tissue and causes a lot of pain. The question is should I keep my left ovary or not? I suffer from menstrual migraines and they have gotten worse over the past 3 -6 months. I'm thinking maybe take them both out and go on HRT.
2042830 tn?1333865567 The decision to have an ablation is a discussion you should have with your doctor. I can tell you that many of my patients have had endometrial ablations and done very well. Ablations work better for bleeding than they do for pain and bleeding and I have had patients that had both (pain & bleeding) in which the ablation did not resolve the pain. In these instances some of those patients elected to have a hysterectomy. J.
2042830 tn?1333865567 HI, If the report comes normal, then the treatment options are either medical treatment or conservative surgery in the form of endometrial ablation. If you are scared of ablation, you can opt for medical management which is quite effective. However depending on findings of examination and endometrial biopsy your Doctor is the best person to advise you. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Ultra sound shows hematometra and abdominal thickening. I am 46 and had a tubal in 2006, ablation in 2011. Should i be concerned?
Avatar f tn Hi i am trying to keep the faith , I have the same exact symptoms as yourself. infact I thought maybe I had some type of bowel cancer or something . your right labor pains are the only way to describe the cramping. I to have had a failed ablation and am looking at a partial hystorectomy. have you decided what to do and if so has it worked?
Avatar m tn ve since had ops for ectopic pregnancies, womb ablation, subtotal hysterectomy (31 yrs old, 6 months after ablation). During my hysterectomy my surgeon had to separate my uterus from my bowel, bladder, cervix and ovary. Everything was stuck together due to scar tissue/pelvic adhesions. My surgeon believed that the pelvic adhesions were the cause of the horrific pain I was experiencing. I was fine for approx 3 years after my hysterectomy when the cramping and back pain returned with a vengeance.
Avatar f tn Can you suggest any pain medication that might give me relief until I have a hysterectomy. I am having debilitating pain two or three days every month now. I have tried aspirin, aceteminophen, ibuprofen, and my doctor prescribed Ponstel. None of this is helping. A hot bath gives minor relief, as does a heating pad. I am 48 years old and work full time at a busy law firm. I had the ablation and tubal ligation approximately two years ago.
Avatar f tn Perimenopausal breast cancer survivor on tamoxifen. After 4 months, diagnosed with AUB due to simple hyperplasia and polyps. Given a choice of hystrectomy or Ablation. Can't find any literature regarding ablation followup care since tamoxifen would be continued for 2-3 more years. What is the risk of endometrial carcinoma or other gyn issues after ablation since tamoxifen would still be providing an estrongenic effect?
Avatar f tn m not sure if its the pill (never has been in the past) or the ablation that is causing these cramps. They are very annoying. I take ibuprofen everyday it seems like. I can't stand it anymore. Anyone else? Have I not given it long enough? Or am I going to end up with a hysterectomy if I want a NORMAL life?
Avatar f tn Went for follow up. Told me right ovary needed to be removed. Told hysterectomy possibly in future. Decided to end suffering now. A vaginal hysterectomy in the upcoming month. What can I expect before and after surgery.
Avatar f tn But she says that i still have follicles on both ovaries and she wants to do a diagnostic laproscopy and a ablation on my uterus lining and she wants to see if i have endometrosis and if i do she is going to laser off the spots- because I have severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, severe vag bleeding and pain during intercourse. My question is i actually had two choices-one was the ablation and the other was implanting a IUD in my uterus. I have already had a tubal 2 years ago.
Avatar f tn There should be no need for a hysterectomy. Fibroids are very common and usually don't need any sort of treatment. If you have heavy or irregular bleeding, that can be treated with medication. And if the fibroid is large and pressing on organs such as your bladder, there is a surgery to remove JUST the fibroid (myomectomy) thereby leaving your uterus and its many lifelong functions intact. Most ovarian cysts resolve on their own.
Avatar f tn I have a couple of questions to ask you wise women of the ovarian cyst community. I have been scheduled to have surgery on April 12 to have my rt ovary (with attached 4.8 cm cyst) and fallopian tube removed. At the same time the doctor will also perform an ablation (sp?) due to a uterine polyp and subsequent crazy periods.
Avatar f tn Hi. I had what was called a Lapraoscopy for severe Endometrioisis when I was in my late 20's. Gyno swore that I would end up having to have a hysterectomy though and acutually tried to encourage me to have one. I declined the Hysterectomy and took the Lapraoscopy instead. She said I would have to have a Lapraoscopy almost every year or two if I didn't have the Hysterectomy. I said no to the Hysterectomy. Well, this is now approx. 17 yrs.
Avatar f tn am i too young to have a hysterectomy.? or do i have to have kids before this process is possible.? will i still have periods after the surgery has taken place.? Please respond A.S.A.
Avatar f tn Lately it has gotten much worse,my doctor gave me pills for it that didnt help at all. They are recomending ablation or hysterectomy doe anyone have a opinion on which is best? I went in on Thursday after bleeding heavy for over 40 days & got blood work done along with a transvaginal us my results will be back on my Monday appointment. Thanks for any advice.
Avatar n tn Women who have metal clips for birth control should never have Novasure because the clips will melt and cause Post Ablation Procedure. This procedure may work for a limited time but for many, the horrors occur immediately. Insurance companies now require this procedure before a hysterectomy because it is less money. Most women will end up with a hysterectomy.
1591061 tn?1297091399 It can keep me from work or other social functions, I have tried birth control which works as far as lightening/shortening and decreasing my cramps to nothing.
1076907 tn?1255804124 could anyone help me i had an endormetrial ballon ablation 3 yrs ago roughly..
