hysterectomy laparoscopic questions

I am scheduled for a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy in 4 days. I started my period and will be on the light days at the end by the time i have surgery. Is this a contraindication for proceeding with the surgery or can this procedure occur at any time during the menstrual cycle?

Hi everyone...I recently had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy and could use advice. 2 days at home and had to return. A cat scan confirmed an abcess. I became in patient for 4days then sent home w an abdominal drain and bag. 2weeks nearly and cut revealed should be able to remove abdominal catheter and bag this week. How serious is an abcess just above vaginal wall, what can cause it, and what kind of questions should I be asking my doc?

Has anyone ever had a hysterectomy that started out laparoscopic then went to abdominal? Do you have any advice for recovery ? Tips? Heads up?

Hi. I am having laparoscopic hysterectomy with ovary removel.(Brca gene) I have a one year old baby. I was told I can't pick up anything over 10pounds. No yoga or anything either . For 4 weeeks. Wow is this really true?? Is there a procedure with better post op recovery?

I have diabetes and blood pressure also and I have read that removal of ovaries results in oestoporosis later on. I worry that I may not have much strength after hysterectomy. Please if someone has gone through a similar case let me know what deicision to take. I don't know if I should take a second opinion to reconsider ovaries bring removed or to listen to the doctors advice.

Hi, I had laparoscopic surgery to remove my ovary and fallopian tube due to a cyst. Mine was thought to be a simple cyst, but it turns out it was a 6cm serous cystadenoma which is benign, but not really classified as a cyst. I think my doctor told me that he removed everything intact without reducing anything. He made the incision a little larger down near my pubic bone to do so. I just wanted the cyst removed leaving the ovary.

I am 2 weeks post op....hysterectomy...I am experiencing severe left sided low back pain... Could this be related to the surgery?

My doctor suggests that I get a hysterectomy. I do not want to try any medications because I feel that they will only mask the problem and eventually I will have to deal with it. I have two children, and don't plan on having additional children. My doctor suggested performing the hysterectomy laparoscopically to avoid opening me up again. She will remove the endometriosis through coagulation. Do you think that these two methods are the appropriate treatment?

Also how long would I stay in the hospital--I was given a pamphlet about these urogynecologists in Denver, and in the pamphlet they do talk about minimally invasive surgery for the cystocele with prolapse repair (without hysterectomy-already had the hysterectomy) or graft ad mesh repair for cystocele. Saw somewhere in your questions and answer section, someone was having problems with the mesh repair--is that common and how good is it--how long will the repair last. I am 77 years old.

Like spreading my legs part is not comfortable to do. Why do I feel any pressure an pain down there I thought laparoscopic hysterectomy meant we did not touch my vagina? And if it is normal, it has been almost 3 months now why is the discomfort still there anyway?

Hi everyone. Recently I was diagnosed with endocervical adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS). I had a leep procedure and that's how it was discovered. I'm now scheduled to have a laparoscopic hysterectomy. I get to keep my ovaries. I'm 31, no children and I don't want any so that's not a problem for me. But I'm still struggling. I'm scared to have the hysterectomy because the recovery process seems so long and painful and one of my biggest fears is pain.

I saw my obgyn today and was told in order to relieve my menstrual cramping the next step would be a laparoscopic hysterectomy. I had an oblation 2 years ago and it wasn't helping anymore. I was wondering if i will still get my period, he said he would be leaving my ovaries in.

she scheduled a partial total laparoscopic hysterectomy. She will only keep ovaries unless they are diseased, one due to my age (34), and bcuz I have a family history of both heart & osteoporosis, so why take any risks. She will be removing the tubes, along with the uterus & cervix because she wants to prevent issues in the future with endometrial cells causing issues in the futures & I have past problems w/ annormal paps. Surgery is scheduled for 10/5.

By the way, if the cyst is benign, you could be a candidate for a supracervical laparoscopic hysterectomy, or a laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy with removal of ovary(s). I'm sure that you don't want more surgery, but you even more don't want more cancer! Good luck!

I just had a hysterectomy done on Feb.11 (full one) by laparoscopic surgery. I can say I do not have ANY issues so far. I did have it done vaginal & laparoscopic but have the 3 small incisions on my belly, but nothing really noticeable. I am 42 and my gyno immediately put me on the HRT patch the day after. My surgery was "day surgery", I went in at 7:30am and home by 11am.. I only took 1 week off work. I can not tell any difference as far as being on the HRT patch.

A small fibroid is not a reason to get a hysterectomy, either. Endometriosis can be treated by laparoscopic surgery, but it is to remove the endometriosis, not the uterus. Are you sure your doctor wanted you to have a hysterectomy? Here is a link that describes endometriosis. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.

I have had endometriosis since the age of 12, am now 42 yo. I had bso hysterectomy last July. My dr. believes a little bit of endo remains behind my cervix (kept that). My dr. would like me to take 3 mos. of lupron to suppress any remaining endo. Is this safe to do after bso hysterectomy?

I am now just over 2 weeks post op. I had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy, Davinci assist. I've been doing ok. Some back pain at end of days have been typical, especially if I did a few things during the day. I was in pain last night and went to ER. I was diagnosed with a UTI and given Cipro. Is it late to be getting a UTI this far out from my surgery and catheter?

Just had laparoscopic hysterectomy 1 week ago. Just felt a discharge and went to the bathroom and had a rush of blood. Is that normal? I spend yesterday mostly on my feet and walking around. Could this be the reason? Please help.

I have recently been told by OBGYN, that they found a large mass on my right ovary and will need a Hysterectomy, with the removal of ovary and falipen tubes, they also ordered a CA-125 test to be done. about 7 mths ago, I had a papsmear done, and she found a lump the size of an orange in the same place, she didnt make a big deal out of it, so I thought it was fine, then about two months later, I had an ultrasound done, again they didnt make a big deal out the cyst or whatever they found.

Now 13 years later I have what they said is another 4cm dermoid cyst on my left ovary. I have laparoscopic surgery scheduled to remove the cyst. I'm curious to if others have have had dermoid cysts come back after laparotomy AND has anyone had laparoscopic surgery after laparotomy and scar tissue been an issue? Thank you in advance!!!

I didn't like the idea of just leaving the polyp in there and always having to worry about it. I guess it is time for me to get a second opinion from another gyn to see if they think they can possibly try another hysteroscopy and if not, have a discussion about a hysterectomy.

s a light at the end of this tunnel. I had an abdominal hysterectomy in 06 due to fibroid tumors, only left ovaries. Then March 08 had my gallbladder removed. So this is number three and hopefuuly the last. I dread waking up after surgery it's always the worst for me. Wish me luck the patholigists find NOTHING abnormal.

It gets worse around my period, I have had 1 laparoscopic laser treatment, an IUD, hormone treatment and was even sent to physical therapy to try and help. Nothing has helped, but it has been livable for the most part, just around my period it is very, VERY painful. In the last 3-4 months, however, it has gotten to where it is painful all day. Some days it s so painful I can barely walk and I have pain in my leg as well. It is also effecting my bathroom habits.

If I still need to do some that it will be a laparoscopic hysterectomy recovery time is 2 weeks versus abdominal hysterectomy 8-10 weeks recovery time. God Bless you both and anyone else that's going through this!
