hysterectomy

Avatar f tn Would you keep or remove your ovaries when having a hysterectomy? I'm coming to the end of menopause.
Avatar m tn I have Adenomyosis, its when the lining of the uterus grows into the muscle of the uterus, the doctor decribes it as like a uturus inside a uterus, or a hot piece of coal irritaing my uterus! I bleed heavily and am in constant pain! I have to have abdominal surgery as my uterus is to enlarged to take it away by any other means.
Avatar n tn i have a cyst on both ovaries and one is about 2cm and has contrast and lesions. also my uterus is trying to grow through the uterus wall. My lower back hurts all the time and my side hurts and now my leg hurts really bad. The Doctor said he doesnt think it is cancer but i am scared because i have all the symptoms. I also had breast cancer two years ago. just want to know if anyone has these symptoms and if it turned out to be nothing or cancer.
897990 tn?1248268956 Why on earth does she seem to think she needs a hysterectomy? I had a prolapsed uterus and gave birth to three healthy boys all a prolapse means is the uterus leans in the backwards position, techincally suposed to make it harder to concieve but not so with many many I know...why does she need a C section..all my babies wher vaginal births, just trying to understand...the C section may be needed for a host of reasons..
Avatar f tn My surgeon is a specialist in endo, so should I trust her? she wants to keep both ovaries but remove the uterus. if i keep ovaries wont i keep ovulating and it keep hurting? she said my tubes are clogged up with old blood too which is what might be causing alot of the pain. maybe i should just have my cysts removed?
Avatar f tn you do not mention your age...are you in peri-menopause? My Mom went through this and had such heavy bleeding she was anemic...did the dnc and the dr. told her an hysterectomy was a must...she declined and though it went on for a while longer she managed it and when she was through the change all was ok...she got to keep her uterus and organs...her dr. told her "you will be back for the hysterectomy" but she didn't...
Avatar f tn Traces from all over were sent for biopsy but the washes came out clean, tubes were clean, right ovary was also healthy ... only the uterus seems infected. How can my cancer travel to the uterus without passing through the tubes? Is it ovarian cancer or uterine? I am scheduled for a hysterectomy next week and my doctor says only the second biopsy would tell. Anyone else who has seen this before? I really want to keep my system - I am 30.
Avatar f tn I'm 50 and have always been in good health. For the past two years I have been anemic. Recently, I had a 30 day bleed and my gyn gave me meds to stop it. I have had a good pap, good ca125, good uterus biopsy, but the ultra sound and ct we're abnormal showing a baseball size mass in my uterus and abnormal ovaries. I'm scheduled for a complete hysterectomy on 11/12. Should I get a second opinion? Is this customary procedure for these issues?
Avatar f tn t change the way the endometrial cells out in the abdomen behave. They would keep on hurting and bleeding, and the uterus would be gone for no reason. Losing your uterus at only age 29 seems pretty extreme, especially if it is not necessary or helpful. In your shoes, I would take some trouble to find and talk to someone who specializes in operations for endometriosis. (In my town, that was a reproductive endocrinologist, but your regular ob/gyn could find out.
Avatar f tn Dr put in a Murena device for now, but suggested removing my uterus. Waiting on biopsy results to give him a yay or nay. My mom had a hysterectomy and suffered huge complications. I dont know what to do to be honest and could use some insight..Thank you.
Avatar f tn I am still in pain, during intercourse, as well as everyday cramping, and lower back pain. I talked to doctor and she suggested an abdominal hysterectomy. Should I do this? Will it really help?? I have tried lupron, and had two laprascopies with removal of adhesions as well as countless chocolate cysts. Was told by fertility specialist after last lap that tubes are completly blocked as well as being tangled with my bowels.
Avatar n tn Sorry not to get back sooner and thanks for your advise. I have looked into this further and my honest opinion is that most medic's in this country are of the opinion that the uterus has only one function (incubator) and that any woman who wan't to keep her uterus for other reasons i.e. sex is just making a fuss about nothing? Also, as far as I can see no one really understands the function of the uterus with regard to a woman's sexual satisfaction.
Avatar n tn I have a fibroid about the size of a grapefruit on my uterus and at least 2 smaller ones. My doctor was going to try the procedure wherein they go in and cut off the blood supply to the fibroid when she thought it was just one. Now that she has learned through an ultrasound that there are multiple fibroids, she said that procedure is not an option as it would basically cut off the blood supply to the uterus if they did that for each fibroid.
Avatar m tn Why would a doctor during a hysterectomy take out the uterus through the rectum?
Avatar n tn an abdominal hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus with or sometimes with out the cervix. a BSO bilatreral ( meaning both side) salpingo ( meaning tubes) and ooperectomy( meaning surgical removal of ovaries). So in conclusion you have had you uterus , tubes and ovvaries removed,,,I dont understand the "leave the uterus part" the removal of the uterus is a hysterectomy..
Avatar f tn I don't understand the hysterectomy recommendation if the biopsy was negative. At what point in your cycle was your lining 17mm? The lining gets around 16mm thick every cycle so 17mm wouldn't seem concerning. Of course, if your lining is never thinning out then there is risk of abnormal cells developing. Was the 17mm determined from the D&C or an ultrasound? Polyps and some fibroids can make the lining appear thicker than it is.
Avatar n tn No you cannot get pregnant after a hysterectomy. You have to have a uterus to carry a baby and a hysterectomy removes the uterus. There are other pricedures that remove just the ovaries that you can get pregnant after but not a hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn Traditionally vaginal hysterectomy has been done when treating prolapse. However, more recently, we are leaving the uterus in those patients that wish to keep their uterus providing it is not a source of pain, abnormal bleeding or other problems. I routinely offer patients the option to retain her uterus providing she is not experiencing problems associated with her uterus.
Avatar f tn I'm 54 yrs. old and almost finished with menopause. Have a prolapsed uterus and need a hysterectomy. It will be done with the da Vinci robotics. My mother died from breast cancer and I don't know whether or not I should keep my ovaries. Need advice.
Avatar f tn I have 4 small fibroids, one near the cervice (which is what is causing bleeding - very little though.) The dr wants to me to have a hysterectomy and also remove my ovaries, not sure about the cervix. I only want the fibroids removed from my uterus. He says that because of my age I do not need my uterus and for cancer prevention I should have it removed as well as my ovaries. My husband and I have an amazing sex life and I do not want the jeopordized because of the removal of my ovaries.
Avatar f tn I think it is very important to leave her the uterus and ovaries if she can keep them. They provide a whole lot to the woman's body. If it is a simple matter of finding a way for the menstrual fluid to get out, she does not need to be castrated to have that happen. The doctor is saying she might not be able to have babies but that is a secondary issue.
Avatar f tn t see your post. Since the uterus helps to keep the bladder and bowel anchored, hysterectomy can lead to prolapse of bladder and bowel. Does she really have a prolapse or maybe some other cause for frequent urination? As women age, frequent urination seems to be fairly common even without prolapse. If her bladder is truly prolapsed, a pessary can be used to suspend it (along with the uterus). There are some that don't have to be changed very often.
Avatar m tn I was under the impression that if you had a hysterectomy that you did not have your uterus. When I had my hysterectomy done, the dr took the works. I'm talking about everything, the fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix, uterus. Not that I miss any of them. I don't have periods, which means no pms! WooHoo!
