Avatar f tn However once the healing takes place, everything should be ok. Cervical dilatation should help keep open the cervix to drain the secretions and menstrual blood. The chance of such women needing a hysterectomy is very less. Hope this helps. Take care and good luck.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled to have a hysterectomy soon. The doctor wants to take my ovaries. My mom and both of her sisters have had hysterectomy's. My mother and 1 aunt had early onset of Alzheimers. both took premarin. I have read and studied that HRT's like premarin have a high risk of dementia and heart disease? since my dad had heart disease and most of his siblings and family have had heart problems I am worried. I have Endometrosis and also prolapsed Uteris.
Avatar m tn I was referring to the pathology reports from the colposcopy (removal of cervical tissue) prior to your hysterectomy and the one from the removal of your uterus and cervix (hysterectomy).
Avatar n tn in 2007 I had serous-mucinous borderline ovarian cancer mass removed. adhesions to bowel. no implants. f/u now every 6 mos. w/transvaginal u/s and abdominal u/s. brac1 and 2 are negative. no sx. i am 50 in in menopause. My prior gynonc was ok to watch and monitor-he moved out of state. My new gynonc wants to do hysterectomy. WIth the low recurrence rate of this type, are there any alternatives to hysterectomy?

Avatar f tn My doctor tried to do a hysteroscopy and D&C on me (in hospital, general anesthesia) and said cervix is completely scarred shut. 3 weeks until my follow up. We still don't know what is the "area of concern" in my uterus. She mentioned we'll talk hysterectomy next. I'm 46. Do I have options? Trans vag US showed this area, unsuccessful Saline Ultrasound - the wall is up apparently. I do not want to play roulette. If doc thinks it is cancer, I want it out.
1896954 tn?1323468296 If you got a hysterectomy and the hysterectomy took the tissue out that contained the HPV, it is gone. Not in your bloodstream. Same thing for people who had it in their tonsil tissue and got it removed. It's gone. Until they get the next strain from the next contact. This is as far as I know.
Avatar f tn I have had to have a partial Hysterectomy and i was able to keep my cervix and 1 ovary. It has been since 1992 that i had this done. Tonight I noticed that I was having a period just as I use to have before my surgery. I'm scared, it's been a very long time ago and I thought that the surgery had taken care of that. and I thought I would not do this anymore. What could be wrong with me??
Avatar m tn The hysterectomy you are going to have is a sub-total hysterectomy if the cervix is left behind. A lot of women prefer to keep their cervix as they believe it helps in achieving sexual satisfaction although this is open to debate with many doctors saying it has no effect. This type of hysterectomy is easier to perform with quicker recovery as less tissue is being removed. If your cervix is left behind you will still need to have pap smears.
Avatar f tn They did leave my cervix because of my age when the hysterectomy was done.
Avatar f tn Hello, Did you have your cervix removed at the time of your hysterectomy. If not, it may be remnant endometrial tissue at the upper portion of the cervix/lower uterine segment. If the cervix was removed it is bleeing from the vaginal cuff. Either way, you should see your surgeon to be examined. Best regards, Dr.
Avatar f tn Hello, A total abdominal hysterectomy removes your uterus through an incision in your lower abdomen and it also removes the cervix. Sometimes a hysterectomy includes removal of one or both ovaries and fallopian tubes, a procedure called total hysterectomy with salpingo-oophorectomy. Abdominal hysterectomy usually requires a hospital stay of one to two days, but it could be longer.
242942 tn?1287016689 Chuggington, the cervix hangs lower when you are ovulating. I don't know why your boyfriend won't believe you, but I would not be too thrilled to be in a relationship where I get accused of cheating for no reason. I would see it as a method of keeping me off balance by him. Think it over.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am a 43 year old who is probably going to have a hysterectomy soon, I am waiting for the referral for the doctor affiliated with the hospital I will have the surgery at. I have fibroid tumors in my uterus and a mass on the left outer uterus, They are concerned because my CA125 levels are elevated to 46. I hope if I have to get this done that I will not have the hot flashes and night sweats anymore and hopefully too I will not lose my sex drive.
Avatar f tn Plus, given your age and remembering that ovarian hormone decline can start as early as the mid-thirtes. Remember, too, that the uterus, and if I remember correctly, the cervix, too, give off a certain amount of hormones which could also affect the lining of the vagina. Ovaries in general will keep producing estradiol, E2, (the estrogen produced by the ovaries) although in a much smaller amount even after menopause up until around age 72 or so...
Avatar f tn s easier with hindsight to see what the right decision might be but we can only make choices based on the information we have at the time. I was offered the hysterectomy last July and had I had gone down that path I most likely would have had 2 healthy ovaries instead of going to lose them both and would of saved myself alot of heartache. Of course I had no idea any of this would happen.
Avatar f tn Yes my cervix was removed and i had an abdominal hysterectomy. I have an incision about 6 inches long. Don't think i tore anything, wouldn't it have hurt at the time? I know this is really an unusual occurrence I'm sure, but like you said whats done is done! Now i am just really scared i really messed up. I am also afraid to talk to my Dr about it because of what procedure he might do to tell if anything is wrong. I see him for post-op visit on Friday.
Avatar n tn I had a hysterectomy where my uterus cervix and tubes were removed it has been 2 weeks and I am bleeding more than a period and I am having bad cramps is it normal what should i do should I be concerned
894186 tn?1241478177 I had a vaginal hysterectomy (took my cervix and uterus, left both ovaries) two years ago. It did not kill my sex life. I will say that Astroglide is my new best friend, b/c lubrication is definately lacking but our sex life is just fine!
10905170 tn?1414131788 Women who have endometriosis and have their ovaries removed at the time of hysterectomy sometimes report the symptoms you are experiencing. The likely reason in this scenario is that any remaining endo implants produce estrogen which is why they say that hysterectomy is not a cure for endo.
1800740 tn?1324237171 HI, Bleeding after a sub-total hysterectomy is usually because of local causes in the cervix. Pap smear reports will help rule out the risk of stump cancer or other pathology of the cervix that was left behind. Ultrasound of the pelvis can detect any ovarian cysts. Consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn I was under the impression that if you had a hysterectomy that you did not have your uterus. When I had my hysterectomy done, the dr took the works. I'm talking about everything, the fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix, uterus. Not that I miss any of them. I don't have periods, which means no pms! WooHoo!
721523 tn?1331581802 My gyno recomends a vagan hysterectomy with other reapairs. Apparently there is a decent size hole in the pelvic floor. Here is the embarasing question: He wants to remove the cervex. Will this affect um, well, you know?!?!?! When the cervex is moved during intercourse, it can be felt. If it is not there, well, what will that do? I am going for a swecond opinion with a female gyno next week. Any advice on what to ask and what to do. I also have Multiple sclorosis.
