Hysterectomy for women

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy for women

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn A study published in 2008 showed that these problems can develop up to at least 8 years after the ablation and increase the risk for hysterectomy (to resolve the pelvic pain). I recall a woman saying that a gynecologist at a renowned east coast institution told her the procedure should not be done on women under age 50. I hope you can get resolution without having to undergo hysterectomy which has its own set of short and long-term problems.
Avatar f tn if you find these questions to be stupid just celebrate the fact that you are smarter than me. lol question #1. Why would a woman who had a total hysterectomy still need to see a ob-gyn? queation #2. Would a woman who has had a total hysterectomy need to douche?
Avatar f tn I understand that this has been a long journey for as it took 17 yrs for me to be diagnosed and I went through all the emotions that you are going through right now. I would not even think about cancer or worry about it because I really don't think that is what it is. I am not a doctor but I am giving you my opinion based on research, experience and talking with fellow Endo sufferers.
Avatar f tn Hi above gives some good advice many women feel leaving one ovary is good for hormones which is true,,,,,leaving the uterus that is causing yo serious issues for years, has nothing to do with hormones, it wold only enable a pap test to pcik up any cancer cells,,,,which if you dont have the ovary wold not be there,,,its a circle,,which choice to make. All surgeries/illness'es cause life change often including depression/anxiety. Health is pressious so of corse one would be anxious of it....
Avatar n tn Fibroids and polyps are almost always benign (~99%) so hysterectomy would be overkill. And hysterectomy causes lifelong harm. I call it the surgery that keeps on giving... problem after problem... even if the ovaries are "preserved." Intercourse or pelvic exams can cause polyps to bleed. And if they aren't removed at the base, they can recur and cause heavy bleeding. What were the reasons for the D&C's - as part of the polyp removal or was your lining too thick?
Avatar f tn Hi, Speak with your doctor about this. You might also want to research online, 'Menopause Symptoms After Hysterectomy' ~ there are some women who experience some or all symptoms of menopause post hysterectomy. Consider speaking w/your doctor about treatment options for this. I have not had a hysterectomy, but I am going through perimenopause and have dealt with very painful breast.
Avatar f tn the vast majority of women feel completley physically healed by 6 weeks....take it very easy for 1st intercourse after 6 weeks and doctors ok.....and last but not least welcome to medically induced menopause,,,,I believe in bioidentical hormone replacement many on here like Vivellle its a estrogen patch easy to use...If you have any more direct questions please feel free to pm me...
Avatar f tn Yes, I agree, it's called stress incontinence, it affects a lot of women, there is no cure for it, but your doctor can give a script to help you control it.
Avatar f tn Sexual desire and response are also common complaints since the uterus is key to orgasm for a lot of women. Plus the loss of the nerve structures at the base of the uterus and the shortening of the vagina reduces sensation / pleasure. Ovarian function is oftentimes impaired due to loss of blood flow. The ovaries of women with all their parts produce hormones their whole lives and are essential for every aspect of health - heart, brain, lungs, joints, eyes, skin, hair, etc.
442027 tn?1209866342 I would LOVE to hear from women who have been through this. I have talked with women a little that live near me and they all say IT'S AWESOME and THEY'D DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN. Some had partial, one a full and one I "think" was radical. I thought a full hysterectomy was everything, but I was wrong....... LOL Hoping to get some answers SOON as my appointment with the oncologist is the DAY AFTER TOMORROW............... YICKS............. THANK YOU ALL...........
1149921 tn?1297559913 To my understanding some of my friends on here have already informed me that this does not necessarily lead to hysterectomy. I have hear that some women experience what is refered to as an early change or menopause following this type of operation (hysterectomy). I know that many women experience menopause in different ways. I just need to know if it possible for a women to experience some minor symptoms in her mid to late 30's and what these symptoms consist of.
782368 tn?1244854467 One new technology that didnt exist for your mom , is called the DaVinci Robotic assisted hysterectomy its the highest tech way to get a hyster..leaves less scaring lowers healing time and allows for extreamly precise incisions so small that would have been almost impossible for surgeon without,,,,it is the mthod I had for my hysterectomy...
Avatar n tn Thank you for posting and warning other women about the damaging effects of hysterectomy, weight gain being just one of many. I regret mine every day too. :( My doctor was deceptive about my condition and treatment options and I should not have trusted him. Having been his patient for 20 years, I thought I could. Unfortunately, deceit is the main reason there are so many hysterectomies in the U.S. and some other countries.
Avatar n tn History, going in for menopausal symptoms, and to consult about have surgery for a hysterectomy options and we discussed that I am not ready at that time, just seeing what they feel is best for my situation... I have Complete uterovaginal prolapse for years, I have had 5 kids, and am 54 years old. I have been menopausal for the last three years, no period for 19 months. Went to a new GYN and told her what I was going through, no sleep, moody, hot flashes, like crazy....ect....
401095 tn?1351391770 A friend of mine was told to begin DHEA 25 mg daily for energy....I have always taken smaller doses off and for anti-aging benefits as the production of DHEA declines with age...I was thinking about adding it to my ton of pills on a daily basis...
Avatar m tn I do my breast screening. Ultrasound and CA 125 blood tests are all you can do for Ovarian. PAPS do no good for detecting Ovarian. They found mine 2 years after I started throwing up all the time. I was lucky I even had symptoms most women do not. Worst comes to worst cuddling is not so bad. My sweats were really bad at first but they are better. You just have to make an informed decision and do what is best for you.
1969625 tn?1536531717 (The ovaries of women who have all their parts produce hormones their whole lives for optimal health.) One study showed that 40% of women experience impaired ovarian function after hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn It is still not easy to keep my weight down, but knowing my body as I do, it would be hard for me hysterectomy or not, no matter what anyone says. And, even though I am on the bioidentical hormones and would not be without them, my body has changed. It is like my body flip-flopped and my once troublesome legs are now not that bad and the stomach and I have a constant debate as to who is going to win this battle!
Avatar n tn there should be no reason for hormones, I dont believe the weight gain from hysterectomy should in theory affect you. Many women tend to gain weight post menopause. I would advise you to ask about HRT to your doctor but Im guessing he will say no need.perhaps low estrogen if anything at all/ best wishes,,,when is your surgery ?
1183799 tn?1264186905 I have noticed so very many women w thyroid dissorders have had a hysterectomy...check for my poll and I think if would help you to atleast rule out hypothyroidism. I have hypor thyroid..and have had a hysterectomy...before I was diagnosed with thyroid disorder,,my drain in tub would get clogged because of hair loss and I had acne,,Is your skin in general dry..vaginal dryness, loss of libido constipation..if yes check and find a good endocrinologist...
1809377 tn?1316520328 Intensity can be just as strong if not stronger depending on your situation. By that I mean it can vary for women depending on your hormonal profile. Are you keeping your ovaries? Even so, sometimes they will atrophy about three to six months after a hysterectomy and so you might experience a drop in Estradiol and a drop in Testosterone.
Avatar n tn ll go through it again, but more concerned with health problems that might arise but it seems that this is more for women who are younger e.g. heart disease, dementia etc. Thanks for your help!
Avatar f tn You are unlikely to need a hysterectomy. Only 2% of hysterectomies are done for confirmed cancer. Hysterectomy is the most overused surgery. 76% do not even meet ACOG criteria for the surgery. The study that showed this said that many gynecologists do not do the proper workups to get a diagnosis and/or offer hysterectomy over conservative (organ-sparing) treatments. The cause of the sharp pain needs to be determined in order to decide on appropriate treatment.
Avatar f tn However, studies do show an association between hysterectomy and weight gain. This seems to be more prevalent in women who were prone to weight gain prior to hysterectomy. I have always been thin and could eat anything I wanted and not gain an ounce but since my hysterectomy, I eat quite a bit less (thankfully I lost my appetite post-surgery!) and am able to maintain a normal weight.
