Hysterectomy for rectocele

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy for rectocele

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn I am scheduled for vaginal hysterectomy for cystocele and rectocele. Everything I have read said they have gained 20/30 pounds as a result of the hysterectomy including the ones whose ovaries were not removed. Have you had any weight gain?
Avatar f tn ve seen a gynae who wanted to do nothing for over a year and insisted on ring pessaries and pelvic for exercises. Things got worse and she is now considering rectocele surgery and possibly cyctocele but she's sent me for urodynamics study first. So I decided to get a private 2nd opinion cos I'm only 38 and I can't keep going with my vagina in the state it is.
Avatar n tn Looking for a second opinion my Gynecologics feels that I need to have my uterus removed through the vagina so the can repair the rectocele and the weakness of the back wall of the vagina. They feel it might not take a good effect otherwise. I have never had any bowel movement problems or urine leaks. Thanking you in advance for your response.
Avatar f tn I had a large enterocele that my gyne found when he repaired the rectocele. I actually lost a few more pounds with the surgery-I have other health issues and I weighed 76#s at the time of the surgery and dropped to 72#s, so they kept me on an I.V. the entire time. I am not a doctor, but from my own experience, I would never have gotten the hysterectomy, because I read-later- that it like removing the anchor to your pelvic floor. My hysterectomy caused my enterocele & rectocele.
Avatar n tn Thank you for sharing your experiences. I am seeing a urogyno for rectocele plus fibroids which have returned after being removed less than 12 months ago, so possible hysterectomy. I was told 3 weeks recovery and I could return to work. I am a teacher and tend to be on my feet all day moving around the classroom, plus my classes are not always in the same room, so I walk around the school as well. I am going to give myself the full 8 weeks to recover.
Avatar f tn I've not sought medical advice for a rectocele even though I've had issues for a few years. But, recently my "bulge" has gotten larger when I need to have a BM and I've been experiencing rectal and even sacral discomfort when I cannot get my bowels to move easily. If I am able to evacuate then the bulge disappears even if I feel like I did not evacuate completely. Make sense?
Avatar f tn I recently had the divinchy method of repairing my vaginal area and a hysterectomy. This was done the end of April. Since then I have not been able to have a bowel movement on my own. It pushes into the vaginal area and will not come out. I just saw to my nurse practitioner and I am to see a general surgeon tomorrow. I know I need something done, but I am unsure of what will happen, how it is done, and what the side effects can be.
Avatar f tn I have had a pessary in for around a year to hold it but it is getting so hard to have a BM. I want this rectocele repair to be the last surgery! I need to do what I can to make that be it!
Avatar f tn For lack of knowing where else to post this question, I am posting it here. I am 48-years old, diagnosed with gastroparesis back in May, hypothyroidism in June, and rectocele/rectal intussusception this past week (in October). I am status-post three c/sections, abdominal hysterectomy (still have my ovaries), and a ventral wall hernia repair while they were doing the hysterectomy due to compromised fascia that would not hold my organs in.
721523 tn?1331581802 I had this surgery for the exact same reason your having it (I had a uterus prolapse) back in 2006. Towards the end, my uterus began to pull my bladder out of place as well and they were worried as to whether or not the bladder would go back into normal position. When you have organ prolapse there is little options on what they can do. Once they start to mention hysterectomy, your organ prolapse is usually a grade 3-4. and it puts other organs..
Avatar f tn Hi - I will have a total hysterectomy anterior/posterior; rectocele and cystocele in less than ten days. What does all this mean, how long will I be in the hospital, and how long will recovery take, approximately? I know we're all different and circumstances will dictate the exact amounts, but if you have had these three procedures will you please share your story? What was it like before, and after? Tips and suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks for sharing!
Avatar f tn In general most doctors will use intravaginally estrogen, pill or cream, nightly for 2 weeks and then twice weekly thereafter for maintenance. Using estrogen for 4 to 6 weeks is generally enough time to show improvement in the vagina for surgery.
Avatar f tn I had a total hysterectomy march 2016,@19..iam now sexual active but the problem is iam feeling pain when urinating and also smelly brown discharge.what could be wrong?
Avatar f tn m 10 years post-hysterectomy and my vagina has been like a crumpled up shirt sleeve for some time now...very disgusting. The uterus and its ligaments are also essential to the pelvis' skeletal integrity. Your spine, hips, and rib cage will gradually shift after hysterectomy which is why the figure changes afterwards. The uterus is key to a satisfying sex life for many women and don't realize it until it's gone. Something else to consider....
Avatar m tn I had my hysterectomy with ovaries removed 11 years ago for endometriosis..the endo was not excised as it was not a specialist so my endo continued and it then took me 7 yrs to find a true specialist who believed it could be endo after having all my female parts removed...he went in and sure enough frozen pelvis again...I also thanks to having my organs removed deal with pelvic organ prolapse...sex is very different...
Avatar f tn There are 5 types of POP, rectocele (rectum), cystocele (bladder), enterocele (intestines), uterine (uterus), and vaginal vault (top of vagina caves in after a hysterectomy). Grades for POP are 1-4 (in some countries its 1-3 but in general we utilize 4 stages here). I'll answer the book ?? on a PM to you; it falls into the category of self-promo and we try to keep the MedHelp site as clean as possible (others can comment, I should not). Is there a urologist there?
Avatar f tn I had hysterectomy and rectocele surgery done on Friday 2/13/15.. I'm not superstitious so the date don't matter...haha! But I did have a lot of scar tissue from having my cervix removed in 1993 from cancer and had a lot of scar tissue from endometriosis, and from several lapriscopes so my surgery took longer. The sent me home that night with a script of oxycodone/as a 4.835/325mg. This only my 3rd day I understand.
Avatar m tn I am 63 yrs old, have had complete hysterectomy 25 years ago, and presently have rectocele and relatively new with pgad symptoms, as of March 2014. I asked my gynecologist if rectocele would cause symptoms of pgad and she said no. So I wanted to know if, like me, anyones' symptoms came along with taking Armour Thyroid or Synthroid? I had no such symptoms of pgad til my dose of Armour Throid was hiked up. I didn't immediately connect the two until I did my own "test".
Avatar f tn I am 42, I had grade 3 rectocele, and grade 2 cystocele repair 4 months ago. I have had sex probably 10 to 15 times since surgery, everytime it is incredibly painful. Also, can not stop taking MIRALAX. Will I ever get back to normal, or will sex always be this way and will i ever get off MIRALAX??
Avatar f tn I have uterine prolapse as well as a cystocele and rectocele. When I asked about the reasons for recommending the hysterectomy, she said that it would make the repairs easier. I did ask\ about the ovaries and they would remain intact, which I do wish to keep. I know there is a lot of controversy (and unknowns) about whether or not the uterus is involved in sexual functioning (physically, not psychologically), so that is why I was questioning it.
Avatar f tn Also how long would I stay in the hospital--I was given a pamphlet about these urogynecologists in Denver, and in the pamphlet they do talk about minimally invasive surgery for the cystocele with prolapse repair (without hysterectomy-already had the hysterectomy) or graft ad mesh repair for cystocele. Saw somewhere in your questions and answer section, someone was having problems with the mesh repair--is that common and how good is it--how long will the repair last. I am 77 years old.
Avatar m tn I had a repair for a rectocele and an entrocele and at the same time a hysterectomy. The hyst was done vaginally, the repairs were done laprascopically through 5 incisions. I am still having heavy discharge vaginally. I still have incontinence at times, and at others I am constipated. I am afraid the op has not been totally successful although the doctor says it will settle down. Has anyone had the same experience?????
Avatar f tn Urogynecologist and gynecologist can repair a rectocele successfully for you. I would be surprised if there wasn’t a gynecologist in your area that would be able to help you. Unfortunately, I am unaware of any urogynecologist in your area. My practice is located in Plano, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. I would be happy to assist you if you cannot find a suitable solution in you area.
Avatar f tn I had surgery in October for a fairly large rectocele. After the surgery the rectocele was not completely dealt with, and I ended up having a second rectocele surgery done in February. I now no longer have a rectocele, but still have the same bowel issues (actually worse) that I had before the surgeries.
Avatar n tn I am gonna be honest, a hysterectomy is very painful (for most ) for fisr 1-3 weeks to add two surgerys on top of that Id hesitate. I had a internal and external hemmoroidectomy and it was a difficult recovery..not the same as yours but its just real delicate tender tissue.Weigh your options resureach and think hard about getting all three at once. Im not an expert on urology I do now a bladder can sometimes be held up w a sling or a few sutures.
Avatar n tn I am trying to figure out when is the best time for surgery for a stage 3 rectocele and stage 3 cystocele. I just had a obtryx sling put in in Dec., but now I have a larger cystocele. I believe the dr. would to the davinci method and give me a complete hysterectomy and use mesh to attach it to the pelvic bone. Is it better to wait or better to do it sooner than later.
