Hysterectomy for pcos

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy for pcos

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn Greetings SFX, Hysterectomy is not standard treatment for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a disorder that stems from the ovaries. Removing your uterus will not cure PCOS. First line treatment for PCOS often includes combined hormone therapy a.k.a "birth control pills" , weight loss, evaluation for endocrine disorders such as diabetes and in the event of hirsutism (male hair pattern) spironolactone. Removal of the ovaries in the reproductive age women is associated.
1054665 tn?1305508455 did my hysterectomy take my pcos away. Have read where it didn't, but am looking for more info on this matter. I had gastric bypass on 07 went from 320 - 180 and then have regained to 245. Could this gain be partly due to pcos, even after hysterectomy?
Avatar f tn Thyroid hormones and estrogen go hand-in-hand for many of us. I was just the opposite - had an ovary removed for PCOS in '96, thyroid cancer in '03, other ovary removed for PCOS (huge, hemorrhagic cysts) in '06 and ongoing fibrocystic breast disease. All are fed by hormones (either thyroid hormones or estrogen) and many, many of us on the forum have these problems.
Avatar f tn I have PCOS & HS. These are both incurable conditions that doctors struggle with. Recently I read that the same thing that helps PCOS may help HS and now I'm looking for links in my family history. My grandmother had a hysterectomy, and she has diabetes My mother and two of her sisters have hyperactive thyroid I have PCOS, HS, & I am pre diabetic. Any help on any medical connections between these 5 conditions?
Avatar f tn Well, there really is no "cure" for PCOS because it will always be there no matter what. I mean yes a total hysterectomy would make PCOS go away, but your only 23 years old. As for tests to confirm PCOS, well blood tests are normally more effective then unltrasounds because you need to check to see if any of your hormones are abnormal. There are plenty of women who have cysts that do not turn into PCOS. Most cysts with PCOS are tiny and ALLOT in the ovaries...not one.
439903 tn?1380137882 So i was diagnosed with PCOS in November after TTC for almost 2 and a half years. ive had one cycle of clomid 50mg and IUI. BFN. (IUI was on Feb 26, beta on March 11) Has anyone else has this exact situation and same out come? what did you try next? did you get pregnant.
Avatar n tn As for hysterectomy and influence on hormones...I have no idea. Perhaps it's the influence on your facial hair. If not, I would think a look into Testosterone & Dhea-s (or perhaps Testosterone alone would suffice.) P.C.O.S. can cause hirsutism (and a number of women who suffer hypothyroidism, also have PCOS). As can adrenal problems. I would ask your doctor to take a look into your hormones (Estrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone...), if only to put your mind at ease.
Avatar f tn I am 38 now but I was 34 when I had a total hysterectomy in 2006. I was @ 26 when I found out that I had PCOS and what that ment for me. I was devistated, but once I came to terms with being childless I was ok with that and was even better when the Dr. finally told me she was doing a complete hysterectomy on me. There are pros and cons but you have to wiegh that for yourself.
Avatar f tn ve been in and out of gyneacologist for 3 years. I have been diagnosed with PCOS (so that would be lack of periods) and mild case of Endometriosis (so thats heavy and long periods)...Unlucky for me, according to the doctors, its not a combination which they see all the time. Last year they put me on Depo for one shot (I was previously on depo for 3 years about, and when my last shot finished 3 years ago i had my bleed straight away). Anyway...
Avatar m tn i have a few diff female problems. well i have dealing with female problems for 3 years. i have had 3 surgers in the past 2 and half years. i really want a hystrectmy. i think i need one really bad. i have been dealing wth endomitriousis. ovarian cyst. dermoid cyst. and pcos. i had suregery 3 months ago. my pain has come back and it is really bad. so this tells me that i need surgery again. but every time i do a laporscopy surgery my issues come right back.
Avatar f tn ovary or possibly doing a hysterectomy. Right now lots of questions and lots of research for me to do. I am 32, sorta young to go through menopause, but if it takes the pain away that I have, it might be what I choose.
Avatar f tn After suffering from endometriosis and pcos for many years I have been thinking about getting a hysterectomy. My question is for people in my same situation. Was it worth it? Being 33 and facing a childless life is sad but after 18 years of suffering I feel I have no choice. My symptoms are getting way worse and with the pcos all the weight gain in my mid-section is embarrassing...people mistake me for being pregnant. I heard you can gain more weight with a hysterectomy though.
1089270 tn?1257174234 I had a Complete Hysterectomy (Surgical Menopause) and have gained over 30 pounds. Prior to this surgery, I was athletic and toned. The lack of hormones taken during surgery make me less energetic. I have been taking natural hormones and feel better. I have joined Curves and have been feeling better. I am bound and determined to get this weight off. I use to weigh 140 and now I weigh 179. I know it will take some time to remove this weight, but I know I can do it! One day at a time.
Avatar n tn help some symptoms. I still have PCOS even though I have had a hysterectomy but seems to have very little effect now...yeah, the unwanted hair is still there and the weight is always a challenge. I even had gastric bypass 6 years ago and lost 175 pounds. Even though I went through lots of "bad" situations with PCOS, doesn't mean you will & I hope your DR will have some good info for you to help. Let me know if you need to talk.
687771 tn?1228633781 my ovaries hurt all the time just constant pain. my doctor has mentioned pcos but i have tried medication for that and nothing is helping. i am only 22 and i shouldnt be having this many issues i think. i have a huge family history of breast cancer ovarian cancer uterin cancer on both my moms side of the family and my fathers side of the family.
Avatar n tn Before MRI of adrenals is done, we usually like to make a diagnosis of an adrenal problem.....but with the high DHEA-s it's reasonable to go ahead with imaging.....that being said, would look at 24 hour urine free-cortisol to see if this is Cushing's syndrome. Another common cause of these labs is PCOS. Being hypothyroid with normal labs is not causing/contributing to the other signs/symptoms.
Avatar n tn We are canidates for invitro, I have endometriosis and PCOS. My husband has low motility sperm and abnormal morphology, I do not want to go through invitro again. I want to fight this on my own. Is there a way to cure endometriosis natural?
Avatar f tn Doc wants to do a partial hysterectomy because of my high risk for uterine cancer but want to hold off a year or so unless there is an emergency of course. So we will be doing a tubal for now, for those ladies that had tubals did it make the Pcos worse? I was warned it could but wanted to hear from women that had it done. Thanks!
Avatar f tn I do not have diabetes . My Dr put me on metformin to control pcos symptoms. I was never tested for pcos, just told I have it because I was showing signs of menopause and too much testosterone. This is my complete meds and diagnosis .... zoloft 50mg anxiety, levothyroxine .25mcg hypothyroidism, and metformin 1500mg pcos. Zoloft works 85% of the time. I just don't feel like my anxiety is mental . I feel like it only comes during hormonal changes.
Avatar f tn Were you told to come back in a month or so for a recheck? It seems hysterectomy can impair ovarian function and possibly increase the likelihood of cysts but they're still likely nothing serious. Do you by any chance have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)?
Avatar n tn Before even being diagnosed with PCOS, I was diagnosed with endometriosis at 17 years old with the doctor calling for me to have a total hysterectomy but I refused because I knew I was called to be a Momma. God has worked 2 miracles of being into my life, and I'm praying and believing for 2 little girls someday. I'm regards to this period, it feels like a full fledged really painful cramping period like what I experienced during the endometriosis.
Avatar n tn Okay this is really hard for me to talk about because these are symptoms I have always covered with clothing, make up, shaving, hair styles etc.... But I recently went in to the doctor to have my hormones checked. I had a hysterectomy last year due to cancer, I had both cervix and uterus removed but kept my ovaries. Anyway so I went in to the doctor and had my lab work done everything was with in the normal range except my testosterone which was double almost triple the normal amount.
