hysterectomy

Avatar f tn The question is should I keep my left ovary or not? I suffer from menstrual migraines and they have gotten worse over the past 3 -6 months. I'm thinking maybe take them both out and go on HRT. At least then the Hormones would be at a steady level all the time. I'm curious if anyone has had experience with menstrual migraines and did they go away after the removal of your ovaries?
Avatar f tn My mother has been suffering with migraines for over 23 years. They started just after she gave birth to my brother. He was delivered by caesarean section and before they closed her up, they performed a tubal ligation. Soon after, she began to experience migraines once a month just before the start of her period. She tried many different prescription medications including Imitrex, which provided some but not complete relief.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have had menstrual migraines for over 30 years and as I get closer to menopause, things are getting worse. I had a hysterectomy last July and have been taking.25mg estradiol gel every night and when I first started taking it, it seemed like the headaches were not so bad. Now I am wondering if I should bump it up to .
Avatar f tn Topamax, although there are many warnings on the medication, is one of the primary preventative medications used for migraines. If a person is having that many migraines you want to prevent them rather then take medications often when you're actually having the migraine.
768044 tn?1294223436 Yeah... I've been keeping a headache journal for a long time now... my doctors and I totally can't figure out the tiggers other than for the menstrual migraines and that's just the whole hormones thing which just sort of lasts for the whole week and we can't really do anything about it... my doctor just gave me a new medication to try and I just went off birth control again (I've gone off birth control a few times and it's never reduced the migraines before...
Avatar f tn What can I do to help menstrual migraines? Mine have gotten so bad that I have to miss work. Excederin Migraine used to help but it doesn't anymore. They are so painful. I also have gastroparesis and so I don't know what my stomach can tolerate.
1001420 tn?1281789449 The thing I find best for the prevention of menstrual migraines is Magnesium citrate @ 400mg a day because I find that not only does it help to prevent migraines, but I find that it also helps to prevent my menstrual cramps too. There is a triptan that is specifically for Menstrual Migraines that is called Frovatriptan (brand name is Frova). If anyone who suffers from Menstrual Migraines finds that their current triptan just isn't doing the job...
Avatar m tn Hello all, I am currently experiencing many different symptoms and would like some feedback as to what it all sounds like. At 10 I had meningitis hospitalized for a week. At 11 started to have numbness and tingling of both legs. Saw many doctors who suggested it was do to my menstrual cycle. I still don't see what the connection was with that. At 12 had menstrual cycle for almost a month hemoglobin got down to 3 and had to receive a blood transfusion also diagnosed with Migraines.
1389553 tn?1280782127 Yes, estrogen is connected to migraines. That is why some women only experience migraines around their menstrual period, sometimes women will find that their migraines stop after childbirth, and some women find that their migraines get worse after childbirth. Hormones are very much connected to migraines. But, estrogen is not the cause of migraines, it can just be a trigger. Migraine disease is the cause of migraines.
Avatar f tn First let me set up the disclaimer that this is an internet web site and no one here will have THE answer for you. Only a doctor can diagnose you. Hormones do affect us in many ways and headaches is a common issue. I myself get headaches related to my hormones. Usually worse right before or during my period. I'm prone to migraines so shifts in the hormonal balance affect me. You may have this same type of sensitivity. Dehydration can also cause headaches.
Avatar f tn re doing and whether or not the ponstel seems to help. My doctor is recommending that I have a hysterectomy but I am not ready for that, so I'm just riding it out for now. Do you have heavy periods? Have you tried anything for them? I have extremely heavy periods and am anemic. I have tried lysteda but it didn't help.
1132246 tn?1260288259 Also, I have used Estradiol gel in the past too. This is something that is often prescribed for menstrual migraines and according to scientific studies it's proven to work quite well. You start it a few days before your period and usually use it for 7 days in total. It stops the drop in estrogen basically, which is what they believe triggers the menstrual migraines. I would talk to your doctor about a prescription for Estradiol gel.
928750 tn?1244408542 s always caused physical pain and sometimes if not rarely nausea and headaches. I was on the pill about 3 years ago, for about 12-18 months and again a year ago for period managment. I've always had irregular periods and they are somtimes extremly painful. Is there anything that might be causing this?
Avatar f tn My GP has finally started treating me more appropriately. However... I have also, for years had sever menstrual cycles, with very heavy flow, painful cramps, irregular cycles, mood swings, throat pain and migraines. All of these things have been increasing in frequency and severity. ( periods are every 1-2 weeks, migraines are 3+ weekly) My GP has been addressing these things individually, but I'm starting to believe that they are all related.
Avatar n tn Hi there! Yes, Menstrual Migraines are a type of migraine! I get menstrual migraines, but I also get other types of migraines too so I don't take a medication that is specific for menstrual migraines. A medication that you should ask your doctor about is an acute medication that is specifically for menstrual migraines. It is called Frovatriptan. Frovatriptan belongs to a class of medication called triptans, and triptans are used to treat acute migraines.
Avatar n tn I am scheduled for a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy in 4 days. I started my period and will be on the light days at the end by the time i have surgery. Is this a contraindication for proceeding with the surgery or can this procedure occur at any time during the menstrual cycle?

Avatar f tn ve had improvements in regard to the tumor. I do have fewer migraines post hysterectomy and many not as severe (currently down to an average of 5 a month last I counted), and no more extremely painful periods, and no more endometrioma growing painfully in one ovary.
1830047 tn?1321667793 I get nausea, bone pain in my core area and intestional distress with a slight headache. Feels like the flu. I take topomax for the migraines morning and night which helps. I am so light sensitive that I have to stay home most of the time and have blackout shades. The diet for migraine is different than fibromyalgia so I walk the fence and follow a modified diet that is organic and healthy. Hard to get exercise. I have no friends.
10123610 tn?1408029225 I am wondering if I should just opt for the hysterectomy instead. Since I do not know much about ablation I have been trying to find out which option would be better.
Avatar f tn On Jan 16 i had a severe panic attack. I have been in treatment for depression since i had a Hysterectomy 3 years ago. 2 weeks after my panic/anxiety attack i have had severe muscle twitching through the whole body BP has been elevated. Most of the time my legs feel to weak to even hold me up from a sitting position. is this all in my head but even my family has noticed weightloss the bruising and felt my twitches.
Avatar n tn After hysterectomy, no migraines for 2 months and then when my ovaries kicked back in to gear, they have been worse than ever. Any suggestions? Should I go off the estrogen?
Avatar f tn Do you have endometriosis? If so, hysterectomy is not a cure for endo so the pain can come back or never improve after hysterectomy. It's possible too it could be your bowel as the bowel is displaced when the uterus is removed and can cause problems.
Avatar f tn Because there are so many possibilities, you may want to list those symptoms you mention above to your primary care doctor and ask for a referral to an endocrinologist for hormonal testing. I learned post-hysterectomy I have a pituitary tumor and am left wondering if that did not have some affect on the abnormal menstruation issues which I had. Also, ask your doctor to check your ferritin levels (your iron stores), which my doctor tells me is the best indicator for iron in the body.
Avatar n tn s symptoms (specifically joint pain and loose bms) and my menstrual cycle and was wondering if a hysterectomy would help all the way around! I have four young children and do not want to be an invalid or complainer....Thanks.
Avatar f tn * Orudis * Advil and Motrin (600-800mg) * Nalfon * Naprosyn(available in combo with Imitrex called Treximet) * Relafen * Aleve NSAID treatment should be started two to three days before the menstrual period starts and continued until the period ends. Because the therapy is of short duration, the risk of gastrointestinal side effects is limited.
Avatar f tn Don't believe it!!! I had a partial hysterectomy in May 2010 and I've been having a period every month since then. I'm so frustrated. Now the doctor is telling me that since I didn't have my cervix removed, this is the cause to those periods. He's trying to tell me that bleeding after a hysterectomy is "normal" I'm looiking for another doctor.
Avatar f tn I would also not hesitate to request clarification on whether and how a passage could be created for the drainage of the menstrual flow, rather than going to hysterectomy. It would be a better option.
Avatar n tn A hysterectomy is a very serious , painful operation with the possibilty of very troublesome life time side effects..Only as a last resort should anyone get a hysterectomy. Your age matters too, the younger you are the less likely you will find a dr to perform the procedure. I think you do need to see your gyn and ask about possibilites to control menstural pain. there is a wide variety of meds..stay away from narcotics if you can.
