Hysterectomy for fibroids

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy for fibroids

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn I have 2 cysts on an ovary and 2 fibroids. The doctor has talked to me about a myomectomy option vs. hysterectomy for the fibroid removal. I don't know which way to go on this. I'm concerned about the success rate of a myomectomy and don't want to go through a surgical procedure and then end up having to have a hysterectomy in the long run. Naturally, I also don't want to have a hysterectomy and end up with complications and am really afraid of menopause.
Avatar f tn I am 51 and haven't had a period for 5 months. Three years ago I had UAE for fibroids causing severe bleeding. Suddenly, several weeks ago I started having burning pain which sometimes went into my lower back. It was discovered I had a 7 cm fibroid. I have no bleeding at all this time. My GYN wants to do a vaginal hysterectomy but I was wondering if I could have another UAE instead. OR...
Avatar f tn ) My doctor believes that the fibroids will continue to grow (most likely, but they are growing slowly) and could become cancerous(not usual for fibroids) or necrotic. He says while in for the laparoscopy for the ovarian cyst and ovary, I could have my uterus out and leave the left ovary. But he says if I wait, will later have to have a cut-down instead, which is of course much longer in recovery. I'm seeing my D.O.
Avatar n tn Is Uterine Hysterectomy the only solution to fibroids. Menstral period so heavy, has caused enemia. Ultra sound confirmed fibroids. The largest 3.5 cm. G.P. recomends hysterectomy. My age 46.
Avatar f tn Please read up on albations there are several kinds some use heat some cold some just plain old ballon. Its normally tried for fibroids before a hysterectomy..worse case it fails and you end up with hyster...please try first if Dr is unwilling find a new doc also I always think its a good idea to get more than one opinion before any surgery.
Avatar f tn Is hysterectomy the best option. My gyno says I have 4 fibroids and 1 ovarian cyst. I have no pain and no problem with the fibroids. The cyst is giving me problems for its sore almost every time. If I do a lot of walking, exercise, physical work etc, i feel pain on the right and I think thats were my ovary is. I also feel pain during my period. The pain goes down my right leg at times.
1740983 tn?1312873366 Hello twinkie756, I don't have enough details to know whether a hysterectomy is your only management option. I rcommend that you have a discussion with your gynecologist specifically on treatment options that do not involve hysterectomy if desired. Some necrosing fibroids within the uterine cavity may be associated with abnormal vaginal discharge. I recommend that you be evaluated for more common causes fo vaginal discharge however such as vaginitis and STD's.
888637 tn?1241034907 And then she wants to do the myomectomy on the DaVinci robot, is that safe for someone with so many fibroids? Plus she added that the surgery may not take away the pain (I felt she was suggesting it's all in my head). Well. What to do? Why do doctors dismiss women's pain so fast?
953787 tn?1246371213 Uterine fibroids are the single most common indication for hysterectomy. Fibroids can be present and be inapparent. However, they are clinically apparent in up to 25% of women and cause significant morbidity, including prolonged or heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pressure or pain, and, in rare cases, reproductive dysfunction. Both the economic cost and the effect of fibroids on quality of life are substantial. Fibroids are not cancerous.
1087834 tn?1256647396 Anyway, now I have scheduled surgery in 10 days for a hysterectomy per her advice and I am worried.I have been researching online and it seems that women w/ovarian cancer and other severe conditions have CA-125 levels over 100...
1149921 tn?1297559913 But if your having a fibroid removed you will not have any menopausal symptoms from that. They are not removing any reproductive organs. There are treatments for fibroids so it does not always lead to a hysterectomy. If you were to have a hysterectomy then yes, you would probably have menopause symptoms. There is hormone therapy to help with that though. Find out what your ultrasound results are and do research.
10123610 tn?1408029225 If you really want the fibroids removed, a surgeon with myomectomy skills (for large fibroids) or hysteroscopic resection of fibroids (for small fibroids) can remove the fibroids leaving your uterus intact. The problem is that with hysterectomy so overused, it can be difficult finding a surgeon who uses organ-sparing procedures. There is also a study that shows that a long-term side effect of ablation is chronic, debilitating pelvic pain. This is part of a "post ablation syndrome.
Avatar f tn I have dealt with large fibroids for the past 5 years. Generally my fibroids haven't caused pain or bleeding. But now I have worse bloating than i did before and I am very uncomfortable. My uterus is as large as a 4 or 5 month pregnancy and I cannot fit in any of my clothes anymore. I can't walk on my feet like I used to, since I am carrying this extra load. I almost feel like I have to shop in the maternity section to cover this buldging belly.
Avatar n tn I suffer painful fibroids and at the moment receiving Zolodex injections which are only licencened for up to 6mths. I have been offered the option of a transvaginal hysterectomy but I don't know what to do.Apparently, fibroids shrink during the menopause and as I am 49 next birthday, should I put myself through this op. Many thanks.
Avatar f tn they were supposed to biopsy both ovaries with the laparoscopy so now i wait for results. i guess hysterectomy is rough . my niece said dont do it but i know i have to if this lady doc says i do. she does not do hysterectomys unless really nessary. i am a mess with fibroids.
Avatar m tn I wouldn't think there's any connection between the breast calcification and fibroids. Hysterectomy is a very destructive surgery and you don't need one for fibroids since fibroids are benign. Fibroids shrink after menopause and of course bleeding does too. Hysterectomy trades this temporary problem for a whole new set of permanent problems. You can eat foods high in iron or take iron supplements to increase your iron levels. Taking iron with vitamin C will enhance absorption.
Avatar n tn You don’t have to have a hysterectomy to remove fibroids you can have a myomectomy which also preserves your uterus if you wish to have children in the future.
Avatar n tn I have had irregular bleeding, cramping and periods for the last several months. It started out as occasional spotting between periods and has progressed to feeling bloated, more frequent bleeding between periods, bleeding after intercourse every time, and cramping after intercourse. My periods are heavy and irregular - one month it will be 12 days in length, the next 2 days in length. I've had 3 OB/GYN's who have suggested a partial hysterectomy (leaving the ovaries).
Avatar n tn a small cyst was found in addition to 2 fibroids and some fluid in the uterus. I was told also that I could monitor the cyst for a few months, but my Dr. did want to check on the fibroids since, after menopause they really aren't usually "there".. So , in my case menopause didn't do a thing to the fibroids. Now, they were small and she actually just left them. But usually it is a concern in patients our age ...
Avatar n tn SO sweet Ladys please listen before you have a Hysterectomy please get all the info to make the best thing for you. YOU WILL GET FAT AS A COW. I wish I had had someone to tell me this. Women should help other women i hope this helps you to do the best for you.
Avatar n tn Fibroids and polyps are almost always benign (~99%) so hysterectomy would be overkill. And hysterectomy causes lifelong harm. I call it the surgery that keeps on giving... problem after problem... even if the ovaries are "preserved." Intercourse or pelvic exams can cause polyps to bleed. And if they aren't removed at the base, they can recur and cause heavy bleeding. What were the reasons for the D&C's - as part of the polyp removal or was your lining too thick?
Avatar f tn I'm 46 and I have 4 fibroids, 3 are embedded in the walls of my uterus and one is outside my uterus. My doctor told me I need a hysterectomy. I have some pain and bloating, my periods are the same, no increased bleeding with the fibroids. I'm scared to have a hysterectomy, is there any other way to get rid of them? Any advice please?
Avatar f tn I would rather have a hysterectomy, as I have already been in menopause for years already... and as for the Lupron shots , (yes that is what she wants to put me on) I don't want to take it as I have not read anything good on it. It causes problems, and the fibroids can grow back... the other medicine is a pill called fibristal... it also has many side effects and have not read anything good on it either.... the fibroids also can grow back after this treatment..
Avatar f tn 47 years old and thinking of doing a partial hysterectomy due to large fibroids. my gyn has prescribed depoprovera injections in order to stop the bleeding and improve my iron count leading up to surgery. what are the risks of going this route?
