Hysterectomy for fibroid uterus

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy for fibroid uterus

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn No one can really answer that as its a hypothetical question.
Avatar n tn Now that she has learned through an ultrasound that there are multiple fibroids, she said that procedure is not an option as it would basically cut off the blood supply to the uterus if they did that for each fibroid. The only option is a partial hestorectormy to remove my utereus. My ovaries are fine. The only reason I need to go ahead and do something is the fibroids are pushing up against my kidney and causing that to inflame and has caused pain in my lower stomach and my side/back.
Avatar m tn Hello, I recently had a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound performed and my OBGYN told me that the main issue is a 6cm (approx.) fibroid on the fundus of my uterus. After reading the results myself I don't see where it says this information on the report, as it looks to me like the 6.6 x 4.5cm size given in the report is relating to the size of the uterus, not the size of the fibroid in question. Furthermore, the report goes on to say that the largest (fibroid) is 1.9 x 1.5 x 1.5cm.
Avatar m tn Surgical methods are the mainstay of treatment include hysterectomy, or removal of the uterus (and the fibroids with it). Myomectomy is the selective removal of just the fibroids within the uterus. Myomectomy can be done through a laparoscope and hence you can opt for it. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar f tn I'm 50 and have always been in good health. For the past two years I have been anemic. Recently, I had a 30 day bleed and my gyn gave me meds to stop it. I have had a good pap, good ca125, good uterus biopsy, but the ultra sound and ct we're abnormal showing a baseball size mass in my uterus and abnormal ovaries. I'm scheduled for a complete hysterectomy on 11/12. Should I get a second opinion? Is this customary procedure for these issues?

Avatar f tn My doctor tried to do a hysteroscopy and D&C on me (in hospital, general anesthesia) and said cervix is completely scarred shut. 3 weeks until my follow up. We still don't know what is the "area of concern" in my uterus. She mentioned we'll talk hysterectomy next. I'm 46. Do I have options? Trans vag US showed this area, unsuccessful Saline Ultrasound - the wall is up apparently. I do not want to play roulette. If doc thinks it is cancer, I want it out.
Avatar f tn t wear anything but sweats periods. After a sonagram I am told I have a 2.7cm fibroid pushing against the lining of my uterus. And a polyp. I was going to do the novasure thing but because of the position of this fibroid the success rate decreased by more than I'm happy with. I do not want to continue being housebound for days at a time each month, she suggested a hysterectomy might be an answer. What can I expect?
Avatar f tn I am 53 yrs. old and post-menopausal for 5 years. I am scheduled for an abdominal hysterectomy in July. I've been told I have a 9 cm uterine fibroid and my uterus is about twice the size it should be. One ovary was visualized with an abdominal ultra sound, the other could not be visualized by abdominal ultra sound or transvaginally. If I ever had fibroid(s) previously, I was not aware of them. The worst menopausal symptoms I've experienced were during peri-menopause.
6339603 tn?1380470060 There are some medications that can suppress the growth and bleeding (the medication has side effects though) there is MRI guided ultrasonic fibroid ablation, there is uterine artery embolization, there are also surgeries such as myomectomy (removal of fibroid) or hysterectomy (removal of uterus). See a specialist for more information on all of the different options. Good luck!
Avatar f tn There should be no need for a hysterectomy. Fibroids are very common and usually don't need any sort of treatment. If you have heavy or irregular bleeding, that can be treated with medication. And if the fibroid is large and pressing on organs such as your bladder, there is a surgery to remove JUST the fibroid (myomectomy) thereby leaving your uterus and its many lifelong functions intact. Most ovarian cysts resolve on their own.
Avatar m tn I am 38 years old. I have an 8.5 cm fibroid and an enlarged uterus(about a 14 week pregnancy size) I can feel the fibroid in my abdomen especially when my bladder is full. This is the reason I went to see the doctor - to find out what that hard mass was. The doctor recommended a total laparoscopic hysterectomy. I do not want more children I do have other symptoms like heavy bleeding and urinary frequency.
Avatar f tn old fashioned hysterectomy with possibly removal of one or both ovaries -surgery just to remove the fibroid (myomectomy) -uterine artery embolization (UAE) (I assume that is what UFE means?) which is the plug up the blood vessels that nourish the fibroid . When it loses its blood supply, it dies and then shrinks. UAE does not always work. There is a period of time that can last up to 6 months where you have pain from the procedure.
Avatar n tn I am in my mid 50s and have been followed with a large (18cm) fibroid for many years. It is subserous, coming off the back and right side of the uterus. My right ovary is not palpable on bi-manual exam due to the fibroid, but we have been able to monitor it on transvaginal ultrasound through the years. This ovary has had a history of being enlarged with cysts that normally have subsided over several cycles . I have had a tubal ligation and have had three pregnancies.
Avatar f tn HI, I had a laproscopy to remove a 6 CM ovarian cyst. When the doctor got in, he found that he could not access the cyst because of a fibroid blocking the way. He told me my ovary is now behind my utuerus and recommended a hysterectomy to remove the ovary, cyst and uterus. My CA 125's have been normal, there is no cancer. Wondering if I have any other options.
Avatar f tn Hi all, We are Indians living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Currently we are in India to spend time with family during Xmas and New Year. My wife has a large fibroid - to quote the MRI "Uterus is anteverted. A large exophytic fibroid with extensive cystic degeneration measuring 71 x 56mm noted in the fundus. Prominent flow voids seen along the anterior and posterior aspect of the fibroid suggesting increased vascularity".
Avatar f tn that has been found outside of my uterus, attached to my left ovary. It is pushing my uterus out of place and pressing on my bladder, making my life quite miserable. He has said it is neither a cyst or a fibroid but it is also not cancerous which is a relief. He has given me 2 options. 1 is to detatch the lump via by belly button and then make a bikini line incision to remove the lump. The 2nd is to perform a hysterectomy via an incision to my bikini line and leave my right ovary intact.
Avatar f tn Yes, in fact I am sure it is the fibroid. I had fibroids myself.
Avatar n tn I have been to many different doctors in my country and they seem to offer no help or help that is way to expensive for me to afford. At 21 I did surgery and removed 14 fibroid growths, these grew in the space of three years. the largest being the size of a large grapefruit. At 24 they are back but my last Ultra sound showed that there was something more a "complex solid mass" in the region of my lower pelvic area.
Avatar n tn should I go ahead and get the hysterectomy? Or what? Right now he has me scheduled for a myomectomy in Jan. and I want to do what is best, but how do I find out what is best? He has not been my doctor very long, my regular doc retired and this one took his place, so he doesn't know much about me, so he may not be giving his opinion because he doesn't know me. What should I do? We are in a very rural area, there isn't much chance of getting started with another doctor. thanks.
