Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy effects

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn But the risks and side effects of hysterectomy involve a much longer list than prolapse. I had a hysterectomy 9 years ago and speak from experience as well as the knowledge I have gained since undergoing this damaging surgery. The bladder and bowel descend without the uterus to separate them and hold them in place. Even absent prolapse, this often alters their functions. I experience intense pain when both my bladder and bowel are full. And they sometimes do not empty completely.
Avatar f tn I understand your concerns. Any time you put something foreign in the body, it can cause long-term problems. Granted some do not have problems with surgical mesh. But those who do can suffer horribly and it typically cannot be completely removed. Also, hysterectomy has its own set of problems since the uterus has life long non-reproductive functions. Have you considered or tried a pessary to suspend your bladder and uterus? There are various types and they have to be fitted.
1162610 tn?1262829016 I'm on week 5 off Hydrocodone, first of all! Yaaaay! Still craving the stuff though, but less and less it seems. Since I still have pain, now and then, I have been prescribed Tramadol, rather than the narcotics. What are the narcotic effects, if any, of Tramadol? I've only taken 1 or 2 a day, but with a hysterectomy coming soon I'm concerned for my needs for pain meds again. If I have to take more Tramadol, how will that effect me? Thanks for your help.
Avatar n tn is it normal for them to put you on the lupron shot before doing hysterectomy
Avatar f tn Now I want to know whetherr there are any side effects to it and if any, what are they and what can i do? Please let me know, as I am a bit tensed.
Avatar f tn any suggestions from ppl that may have gone through this would be appreciated? The doctor told me that the side effects from hysterectomy are not that bad as long as they leave the ovaries. I am in a little bit of a panic and not sure what route would be best.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry you're dealing with this. What problems are you having? Hysterectomy is one of the most overused surgeries and there are short and long-term negative effects. What's wrong with your one ovary that it needs to be removed? I had a hysterectomy 11 years ago and it has caused one problem after another, none of which are fixable.
Avatar f tn my hysterectomy was in 2007. I have only had these recent symptoms for the last 2-3 years. I don't know where I am in menopause but one of the follicle tests showed that my levels were in the 60's when they were only supposed to be around 15. I can't take meds because it effects my burning mouth syndrome. My Hot flashes are insane.
Avatar n tn When I had my hysterectomy, my gynecologist took the works out. I'm talking the ovaries (well one, I had the other one removed last Dec.), uterus, cervix, and fallopian tubes. The procedure he used was called lavh, laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy. I feel a lot better for it though. For me, I have a family history cervical and uterine cancer, which why the gynecologist took out everything. From what I understand though, there are other cancers us women can get.
Avatar n tn Hello, my wife had a full hysterectomy approximately 10 years ago and everything was taken out, EVERYTHING. She had a few cysts and her gynecologist suggested a full hysterectomy due to the fact that the cysts could come back if she were to get a a half hysterectomy. Long story short, she's a strong woman who really keeps it together but she has recently expressed that she's been battling depression.
Avatar n tn There would be no question in my mind to not have the surgery!!! When my sister in law was diagnosed with uterine cancer and died 6 months later, I wanted a total hysterectomy for piece of mind. Of course you can't go to a doctor and just say I want a hysterectomy. Ironically, 3 years later I was dignosed with ovarian cancer!!! Get the surgery!!! Good luck...
Avatar n tn conditions, treatment options and the lifelong damaging effects of hysterectomy. If they were, many women would refuse a hysterectomy as well as removal of one or both ovaries (castration). The non-profit HERS Foundation has been educating women about the lifelong functions of the female organs since the 1980's but is up against a very lucrative industry. Hysterectomy is emphasized in Graduate Medical Education. Each resident used to be required to do at LEAST 70 hysterectomies.
725741 tn?1245086607 I had a hysterectomy in Jun 08 and about 3 months ago I started having the old PMS symptoms. For instance I would get a pimple on my chin every month right before my monthly cycle. Now I'm getting the pimple again. I just need to know if this is normal or not. I still have both ovaries and haven't had any complications whatsoever from the hysterectomy.
10123610 tn?1408029225 It would be a shame to be left with the permanent side effects of ablation, hysterectomy, and/or ovary removal or ovarian failure caused by these surgeries when the symptoms could be managed with a more conservative approach. If you really want the fibroids removed, a surgeon with myomectomy skills (for large fibroids) or hysteroscopic resection of fibroids (for small fibroids) can remove the fibroids leaving your uterus intact.
8012558 tn?1399308657 I was not told by my doctor about any side effects that essure procedure can cause. The procedure itself was very painful and my doctor didn't give me any pain medication during the procedure. I did essure 5 years ago and since then I have experience nothing but the pain in my pelvic area. Doctor performed laparoscopy thinking it is endometriosis, but after the procedure I was told it was very mild and she was not sure if that was cause of my pain.
Avatar f tn I don't generally come to this forum so didn't see your post. Since the uterus helps to keep the bladder and bowel anchored, hysterectomy can lead to prolapse of bladder and bowel. Does she really have a prolapse or maybe some other cause for frequent urination? As women age, frequent urination seems to be fairly common even without prolapse. If her bladder is truly prolapsed, a pessary can be used to suspend it (along with the uterus).
Avatar f tn ) All side effects from hysterectomy can be dealth with it is so very nice to be pain free, and personally I like not dealing with the monthly, that being said it is MAJOr surgery and should not be entered into lightly, you are young and you deserve QUALITY of life. Read up on BIOIDENTICAL hormone replacement..
Avatar f tn I have no symptoms, other than maybe one or 2 heavy days of my period. I am 53 years old and still have a regular period. Do I need a hysterectomy??? Do I need to take the lupron shots??
Avatar f tn I had a total hysterectomy April of 2016. I was diagnosed with a rapidly growing complex cyst and scheduled for surgery on Feb. 17th. The cyst had destroyed my ovary completely so the surgeon removed the ovary also. I now only have my left ovary which he said he cauterized a few endometrial spots on. The left ovary had a mass removed from it 16 years ago. I do not take medications so I hurt as expected but today (3 days post op) I have started experiencing some sweats/hot flashes.
Avatar f tn I had a total hysterectomy in January of 2008 because I had endometriosis everywhere. Since that time I still feel as though I have the same pain from the endometriosis as prior to the surgery. Also I have some bleeding after sex. Is the bleeding something I should be concerned about? Can endometriosis spread to other organs in your body? I guess I'm not as educated on this as I should be. If anyone knows please contact me. Thanks for your help.
Avatar n tn Hi: I forgot to include this question in my last post. I am postmenopausal (about a year and a half) & am scheduled for a complete hysterectomy. I read a lot about physical/emotion effects of hysterectomies on premenopausal women, but can't find any information about the physical and emotional effect on women who've already gone through menopause. Is there still some hormonal effect on 'p. m.' women?
